Looks like Nike is using the 2006 NBA All Star Game in Houston to kick off its marketing campaign for Kobe Bryant. Kobe’s signature shoe, the Zoom Kobe 1, is making a serious appearance. There was a Kobe event showcasing the shoes and inspiration for the shoes. Guests could even design a pair of Kobe 1’s on Nike iD service. Of course, designs were done on a Mac.

On Saturday morning, SiteMeter recorded 2-3 hits on Pulpconnection. I ran errands and checked SiteMeter again in the late afternoon. This time, the number of visits was at 58! Something must be wrong.
Looking at the details, I saw hits going to my Bye, Bye Lisa Rinna post, all referred to by Technorati. Yeah, I used the tag “Dancing with the Stars” and for whatever reason, my post is on the top of the list for that particular tag. That must have drawn in all the traffic.
On late Saturday night, my hit count climbed to 76. Cool! I can now attest that tagging in Technorati works.

Aveda Concept Spa and Salon, Elements Hawaii, will be featured in Sunday’s Star Bulletin. Actually, I think the profile will focus on the owners who changed careers, leaving the legal field, to start the spa.

Anyways, check out Sunday’s Business section.
Can’t seem to find the article yet. Maybe it got pushed back?

The NBA 2006 All Star Game is coming up on Sunday, February 19. Shoe companies are setting up their All Stars with custom kicks.

For the most part, I think these All Star kicks are ugly, but whatever.
More pics at Hypebeast and Nike Basketball.

Apparently NFL great, Jerry Rice, still has got a fanbase. He pulled off a big upset by surviving another round in Dancing with the Stars. Even with the lowest scores of the judges, Jerry is moving on, eliminating soap star, Lisa Rinna.
Yeah, Jerry ain’t the most gifted or natural dancer, but he’s playing the role of Jasmine Trias in American Idol 2004. And, I was tired of Lisa Rinna’s bubbliness and weird lips. I’m still rooting for thrillin’ Drew Lachey.

Sony is discontinuing its Walkman Bean introduced in late 2005. Wow, that was fast. Seems like I just made fun of it not that long ago. iPod domination?

Microsoft is officially making its move away from FrontPage with the announcement of its “Next Generation of Web Authoring and Design Tools,” Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 and Microsoft Expression Web Designer.
Read the Press Release for a description of the two applications.
Back in the day when I was playing around with the initial releases of SharePoint, I felt there was no easy or good way of customizing SharePoint sites. Editing files was a hassle, building Web Parts takes know-how, and FrontPage could modify some parts of SharePoint sites but not enough. Maybe splitting FrontPage into two apps is a good move for SharePoint users.
Been reading quite a few stories about Apple building up good karma. There’s the one about Apple giving MacBook Pros to 12 contributors to the WebKit project. Now that MacBook Pros are starting to ship, buyers got a surprise with a no-cost processor speed bump. Those who ordered 1.8 GHz processors are getting 2.0 GHz models, and the 1.67 GHz processors have been upped to 1.8 GHz.
Not directly from Apple but close enough, Lexus owners who bought an IS250AWD had to wait for the car due to a Lexus recall. As a gift for their patience, Lexus gave these buyers a loaner car and a iPod Nano with a car adapter.
And lastly, as hackers try to reverse engineer the new Intel-based Mac OS X, they’re finding poems heeding the hackers to stop. The poem reads:
Your karma check for today: There once was a user that whined/his existing OS was so blind/he’d do better to pirate/an OS that ran great/but found his hardware declined./Please don’t steal Mac OS!/Really, that’s way uncool./(C) Apple Computer, Inc.
A very cool way to run business.

I, Cringely is back with a thought-provoking column about Apple and Blockbuster joining forces for movie distribution.
Here’s the scenario:
Take your Video-out iPod to Blockbuster, drop it in a kiosk dock then download from… your choice of 50,000 movies… Take the iPod home, drop it in the dock attached to your TV and watch the movie. H.264 decoding takes place in the iPod in hardware.
Very simple really, and you know what the Technologist Manifesto says about simple solutions, right? Use it.

An open-ended commentary about the most looked for quality in a leader.
Consistency, integrity, sacrifice, charisma, humility, vision, principles, honor, passion, ninja skills, communication, clarity – the list goes on.
Clarity is key. Clarity is the key component, because you need to have clarity in your communication to the people you lead, and to the people you serve, you need to have clarity of mission, purpose and passion so people want to follow you, and you need clarity of purpose to wade through all the information that will come your way to find the truth, or at least the most relevant information.
