As reported on Wayne’s World, Starbucks is offering people a coffee break with a free cup of coffee (at participating locations) from 10:00 to 12:00. Word is this coffee break is Starbucks’ way of smashing new competition posed by McDonald’s Premium Roast Coffee.
So if you’re not busy teaching, correcting, planning, aligning, and helping, yet [...]

Since the Honolulu Advertiser ran an article about the likeable factor in the workplace, let’s rearrange the Shaq vs Kobe plan and discuss likeability right now.
Who is more likeable, Shaq or Kobe? Let’s look at historical events and the origin of nicknames.
Kobe is still haunted by the 2003 sexual assault charges. Guilty or [...]

Dinner at Shokudo

by Gee Why on March 14, 2006

in Uncategorized

Like the Tabasco Man, I had a weekend of overeating capped off with dinner at Shokudo. The place was packed on a Sunday night. Lots of hip youngsters crowded the booths but also a lot of the older generation. The interior design is funky, more bar-like than restaurant-like.
Good Japanese food, served family [...]

Lookee, lookee, the Microsoft AutoUpdate kicked in today and showed an update to Mac Office 2004. This update now enables “Mac OS X Sync Services and Spotlight searches to sync and find Entourage items, use smart cards with Entourage 2004, and enjoy improved overall security…”
Oooohhh, Spotlight integration. I must say using Spotlight on [...]

This topic came up before, but the Honolulu Advertiser has another, very similar article about likeability being a very valuable job skill. The main gist is that coworkers would rather partner with someone who’s nice and likeable (but incompetent) than a competent jerk. I’d agree with that.
The article also categorizes workers as four [...]

When I started my Marketing Shaq vs Kobe campaign, I didn’t plan out all the rounds but instead took things as they came up. Here’s the rounds as they stand now with Kobe leading Shaq, 4-2.

Round 1, Team Jersey Sales (Shaq)
Round 2, Kicks (Kobe)
Round 3, Team Attendance, 3a Shaq, 3b Kobe
Round 4, Build a [...]

The winners of the 2006 Bloggies have been announced. Check the website for all the winners and nominees.
I’d have to check, but I think some of the nominees I voted for as a panelist won some awards.

Searching for Diane Ako

by Gee Why on March 13, 2006

in Life, Pulp

Doing a random review of the logs of Pulpconnection, I saw a Google search for Diane Ako that led to the Listmania: Hottest Local Newscasters. Surprisingly, this post was #16 in Google’s search results. How funny!

Over the weekend, there were two more comments on an old favorite, Hottest Local Newscasters. Not sure why there was activity but if you want to relive some memories (and more discussion about Tasha Kobashigawa), check out these old posts.

Today’s newspaper had McDonalds ads for some of their new items, including a free Premium Roast Coffee. Unlike the McDonalds’ deathtraps of Windward Mall and Pearlridge Uptown, Enchanted Lakes still has a McDonalds so I decided to give their new coffee a try.
It’s not too bad. Better than the coffee they had before. [...]

Continuing with team attendance figures from Round 3a, both the Lakers and Heat have played around 60 games. At this snapshot in time, the Lakers have a small edge in overall attendance.
Round 3b, game attendance, goes to Kobe. (Kobe 4, Shaq 2)

Wow, what a finish to the second season of Battlestar Galactica. Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2 was a stunner in the last 30 minutes. Talk about changes in the story line. Here’s an interview with BSG producers that include spoilers from this episode.

With all the odds and dollar value calculations in Deal or No Deal, the show is ideal for statisticians, guys who figure out insurance rates, and engineer types.
If I were on the show, my strategy would be to minimize the numbers aspect of the game. I’d pick my suitcases based on other factors such [...]

O’Reilly has a good comparison of popular web publishing apps for the Mac. Author, Giles Turnbull, briefly describes his experiences with iWeb, RapidWeaver, and Sandvox.
While I’ve heard about these apps, I never got the time to check them all out. I’ve played around with iWeb and agree with Giles’ conclusions. Never tried [...]

Since we’ve been talking tunes here and there recently, I thought I’d mention seeing a recent issue of Blender, the Ultimate Guide to Music and More, that featured the Top 500 songs since 1980. I couldn’t find the list on Blender’s own site, but a Google search found this blog with the complete list [...]

Recapping, Angry Asian Girl met the posting challenge to win an iTunes song. After scouring around, she asked her significant other what song he wanted. How sweet. At which point, he chose Mariah Carey’s love ballad, Don’t Forget About Us. I got nothing against Mariah since I am a fan, [...]

Sounds like Apple is set to announce a monthly subscription-based model of purchasing television shows. Called Multi-Pass, subscribers can buy a month’s worth of a single television series for $9.99 instead of paying $1.99 an episode. Or at least, that’s what I think I understand Multi-Pass is about.
Would be cooler if Multi-Pass let [...]

NBA All-Star and bruising Pistons center, Ben Wallace, offers these words of wisdom:

A star team usually beats a team of stars.
It may be better to give than to receive, but it’s also more satisfying to earn than to be given.
Don’t stress if it takes you longer than your peers to get to your goal – [...]
