February 2008

Never paid too much attention to local pageants before but how about throwing support behind the 56th Cherry Blossom Festival? How can’t you with this year’s theme of Magokoro o komete – With a Sincere Heart?
The contestants are gearing up for the pageant with public appearances at your local shopping malls. Up next [...]

Music Buzz from Blogs

by Gee Why on February 10, 2008

in Uncategorized

Can blogging about music lead to better album sales? Just maybe according to this article. From some studies, online buzz about an album on blogs and MySpace tends to lead to better sales.
Wonder if Laga Savea’s Roots Satisfaction will see any kind of increase from my indirect post?
Another way to get [...]

Former sumo champion, Saleva`a Atisanoe`e, known as Konishiki in the ring was at Borders Windward Mall this weekend supporting the musical release of Roots Satisfaction by Laga Savea. Laga’s Jawaiian-themed CD is produced by Konishiki Power Hawaii musical label with the former ozeki powering sales with personal appearances.
Konishiki’s a cool guy who took time [...]

Airplay for Lupe

by Gee Why on February 9, 2008

in Passion

On the local radio waves, I’ve been hearing a little more from upcoming artist Lupe Fiasco. Online, I read about this rap star and sampled his music on iTunes. Hearing some fresh R&B-infused rap, I bought his CD, Lupe Fiasco’s the Cool, and I haven’t been disappointed with the purchase.
Like Kanye West, Lupe [...]

Most Bloggiest in March

by Gee Why on February 8, 2008

in Addiction, Passion, Pulp

After going in circles and making this harder than it is in Excel, I’ve learned that the month of March is my most bloggiest month*. I started this blog in May 2005 so I only have complete annual stats for 2006 and 2007.
Here’s the shakedown of about one hours worth of fighting with Excel [...]

Word Up! Surprise

by Gee Why on February 7, 2008

in Uncategorized

While driving to work, my random play iPod started pumping out Word Up! But this wasn’t the classic version done by Cameo. It was Korn yelling Word Up at me.
Didn’t know I had that song…

Shaq, Shawn, and Marijuana?!?

by Gee Why on February 7, 2008

in Pulp

At times, with the kids and their toys making noise, I’ll turn on the TV and make it mute to see the closed caption text so I can read what’s being shown. I was watching ESPN when I saw something about Shaquille O’Neal and marijuana. I was like whoa! The Big Aristotle busted for doing [...]

Me and politics don’t mix. Yeah, I admit it, I’m one of those uninformed voters. Sorry, just the way it is. But as the curator of Pulpconnection, the home of pulp, passions, and addictions, I am enthralled with cool, fresh ideas. Who ain’t?
And that’s exactly why Barack Obama could very [...]

"Next Generation" iPhone?

by Gee Why on February 5, 2008

in Passion

Can this storage upgrade to the iPhone be considered “next generation?” Is this a typical refresh of Apple products to appease the public? Feels like a new variation of the iPhone is coming later this year…

More Heat from Abercrombie & Fitch

by Gee Why on February 5, 2008

in Pulp

Just a few more examples of the heat generated by ads for clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch.
And some suggestive textual heat.

ESPN Online for Free?

by Gee Why on February 4, 2008

in Uncategorized

I don’t know what ESPN360 is but it sounds like ESPN content “televised” on the web. And it’s a paid service… unless you’re in college or the military.
According to this article, ESPN is making ESPN360 content free for .edu and .mil domains. What can you watch? How about Australian Open tennis? How about college basketball [...]

Missing in MarsEdit

by Gee Why on February 4, 2008

in Passion

While I’m trying out MarsEdit, I noticed a few things missing that I’m used to with Ecto.
Quicker way of adding links. In Ecto, to embed URL links to posts, I got used to:

copying the link
highlighting text in Ecto
right click text and choose “URL with clipboard”

In MarsEdit, I have to do the first two steps, [...]

Abercrombie & Fitch Ruckus

by Gee Why on February 4, 2008

in Pulp

While taking a glance at traffic here, I noticed a lot of hits coming in related to “Abercrombie & Fitch.” Oh, here’s why… there’s some ruckus going on about the risque nature of A&F photos featuring scantily clad models. In Virginia, an Abercrombie store was ordered to take down some pictures that showed:
three [...]

Checking out MarsEdit

by Gee Why on February 2, 2008

in Passion

For all my blog entries, I’ve been using Ecto for quite some time. I like a dedicated app for writing posts rather than using online editors. Apps like Ecto and MarsEdit give more flexibility and includes common shortcuts that make posting and linking easier.
Anyway, I’ve been hearing about the improvements in MarsEdit with [...]

Been transitioning work blogs from Movable Type 3 to Movable Type 4 for a few hours, and it’s a welcomed mental distraction while listening to some gnarly music. Had to switch out the NG tube last night for cleaning. Quite a bit of screaming, crying, and gagging. I hear the premiere of LOST was on [...]

Nike+ Cooldown Function?

by Gee Why on February 1, 2008

in Passion

Does anyone know if the Nike+iPod system has a “cooldown” feature when finishing a run? Typically at the end of a run, I’ll do a short walk followed by some stretching to cool off a bit. But during this time, I don’t want the Nike+ system to track my running pace since I’m not running [...]
