June 2008

Club 939 has always been large on the scene, kicking it as Hawaii’s hottest gentlemen’s club. Now Club 939 is literally super large with their new sign lighting up Keeaumoku. In fact, the sign is so large that driving and taking a picture of it was too dangerous, and this is all I could get [...]

Who knew Hawaii’s largest health care coverage provider, HMSA, was such a social (networking) place? According to Bytemarks, times are chaging with HMSA opening its network tollgates to the likes of MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. With this change, it’d be interesting to see if the company can capitalize on and join the social network movement. [...]

Feeling Like Spy Hunter

by Gee Why on June 28, 2008

in Pulp

Remember that old video game Spy Hunter? You’d control that neato James Bond-ish car that had machine guns and could release oil slicks and smoke screens to wipe out the bad guys. This must be how the bad guys felt when seeing that smoke screen coming.

Back when Scottie Pippen roamed the court along with MJ, he had some kicks to his name as well. Not as avant-garde as the Air Jordans, but the Air Pippens had their moments especially with the first in the Pippen lineup. Despite weighing a ton, the Air Pippen 1 were stunning. The Nike Air unit [...]

My Nike+ Mini

by Gee Why on June 27, 2008

in Pulp

Taking a page from the Nintendo Wii playbook, Nike introduced its My Nike+ Mini personalized avatar. These little guys are supposed to reflect your Nike+ recorded runs and show status based on energy levels or something like that. Here is my first attempt at making a Mini. Go to Nikeplus.com and build your own Mini. [...]

D. Low as in Dallas

by Gee Why on June 27, 2008

Ha, our unofficial alumni site has some hopeful thinking going on with this Dallas Mavericks jersey for Derrick Low. No jinx! But he’d look a lot more natural in a red jersey…

Thanks Bill Gates?

by Gee Why on June 27, 2008

Read this story about Bill Gates signing off at Microsoft today. I don’t know about you, but the article sure points out a lot of low points of Bill’s career. Not quite what I would expect as a tribute on Gates’ last day. Some quotes from the article: Microsoft is losing Gates at a time [...]

Derrick Low Never Go

by Gee Why on June 26, 2008

in hawaii

Bummer, Derrick Low wasn’t drafted in the NBA’s latest event making millionaires out of teenagers. Hope he gets picked up by a team in the League. Much love D. Low. If you happen to be available next year, your high school stomping grounds would be grateful to have you as a VIP guest at a [...]

News around the Net is saying that Starbucks is getting out of the music sales business. Instead of selling a variety of CDs in stores, Starbucks will focus on a very few titles showcased right by the cash registers. Yesterday I complained about Starbucks’ faltering partnership with iTunes. That relationship will continue however with Starbucks [...]

Didn’t realize how expensive color printing is. Kinko’s charges $0.49 per side while the UPS Store is running a special for $0.35 per side. For a double sided print out, that’s about $1 per page. Say you have a big presentation of 100+ slides. That’s over $100 just for the printing. You need the document [...]

While I love the fact that Starbucks continued their partnership with iTunes and morphed their previous Hand Picked Song of the Day promo into a more manageable Pick of the Week, it might very well be time for Starbucks to call it quits. For whatever reasons, the coffee giant cannot sustain the Pick of the [...]

While at work today, someone left a bunch of books and CDs in the breakroom. Picked up some musical treasures. Check it out. Snap’s Rhythm is a Dancer. Loungin’ (the proper remix version) by LL Cool J. Classic Coolio in Gangsta’s Paradise, and the Cranberries with Zombie.

The next of the new Dews I sampled was the pinkish Supernova. The strawberry melon infused Dew looks tasty, and it is pretty sweet. But I disagree with the Supernova name. There’s nothing explosive with this drink. It’s tame and easy just like a pleasant sunset. Reminded me of strawberry soda jacked with ginseng and [...]
