What’s Rod Rockin’?

by Gee Why on November 11, 2009

in Addiction,kicks

Whoa! Will UH forward, Roderick Flemings, be the golden child of the WAC this season? Just what is he rockin’ in this picture in the Honolulu Advertiser? Last season, the Golden Rod donned rainbow-hued Undercrown special editions. This year he’s got the Adidas Nation TS Commander LT in gold. These are supposedly a limited edition [...]

Spotted at Ala Moana

by Gee Why on October 10, 2009

in hawaii,kicks

What did I spot at Ala Moana this past weekend?  How about this $175 Juicy bag for a grandmother? Not your thing? How about some Nike Lunarglides? And in case you forget, here’s a shirt to remind you. Awesome (and expensive) Star Wars Lego. And Legos are cool! Just ask Naveen Andrews aka Sayid on [...]

Foot Locker at Ala Moana reopened its upstairs doors, leaving the bottom floor. It’s near its original location seemingly switching places with The Gap. Lots of cool kicks to see…

Feeding my addiction to kicks with these black and “bright cactus” Nike Air Max TL5. Discounted $40 at Champs Sports (a good deal despite previous disappointing sales practices).

Wow, I didn’t realize how strong my No Ka Oi background was until I scanned my current rotation of kicks. Take a look. See the strong influence of red, black, and white colors? Dang, No Ka Oi runs deep!

The UH game against Eastern Washington University gave some opportunities to see Roderick Flemings multicolored Adidas closeup. In the first half, the cleanup of a spilled drink included Rod’s kicks and at the start of the second half, Jim Leahey and Artie Wilson comment about the Rainbow Warriors edition sneakers. Money, it’s got to be the shoes! -Mars Blackmon After his 22-point, 13-rebound performance against Prairie View A&M, UH forward Roderick Flemings credited his new “Rainbow Warriors Edition” Adidas. I tried getting a clean look from the Tivo-ed game, but all I could come up with is this. Here’s the video at full speed. I [...]

Iolani Classic Kicks

by Gee Why on September 17, 2008

in Addiction,Passion,kicks

As in Iolani Classic, not classic kicks. The Iolani Classic high school basketball tournament is turning 25 years old(!), and sponsor Nike is helping the milestone with the release of customized Air Force 25 kicks. These limited edition sneaks will be given to participating Classic coaches and those supporting the tournament over the years. Ummm, [...]

Who would have thought that posterizing an opposing player on the basketball court would be viewed as homophobic? Enough people to force Nike to pull its recent advertisements for its new Hyperdunk shoes. These ads depict a baller skying through the air assumedly about to throw down a monster dunk. But these ad showcase the [...]

I have to stop looking at pictures of the new Nike Air Max 90 Current. This shoe is hotness, remixing a classic. But does it blend? Bummer, the embedded video is too wide to display correctly. Click here to go watch what happens when you take sneakers to a blender. Technorati Tags: Kicks, Nike, shoes, [...]

Despite getting paid well to ball in the NBA, the real money lies in endorsements and the recent NBA Draft picks of 2008 aren’t wasting any time. Of the top picks, OJ Mayo was the first to sign, going with Nike. No big surprise there. Is OJ good enough to warrant his own signature line? [...]

Releasing this Saturday at Kicks Hawaii is this remixed version of the Air Max 90. The AM90 Current takes the original AM90 line and includes some current tech like Nike’s Free outsole. Irresistible. Technorati Tags: Kicks, Nike, shoes, sneakers

Back when Scottie Pippen roamed the court along with MJ, he had some kicks to his name as well. Not as avant-garde as the Air Jordans, but the Air Pippens had their moments especially with the first in the Pippen lineup. Despite weighing a ton, the Air Pippen 1 were stunning. The Nike Air unit [...]

Even though now champion Kevin Garnett is no longer signed with Nike, the Swoosh machine needs to hyperstrike retro Air Garnett IIIs right now to commemorate the Celtics victory. Of course, these popular kicks back in the day need to be remixed with Celtic shamrock green and white. Those would be hot! Technorati Tags: Kicks, [...]

Coming to Kicks HI this Saturday (June 14) is the return of a king. The all-time classic Air Max 95 Neons will be back in the house for a limited engagement. I don’t know of many shoes that have had several retro re-releases except this one. Don’t miss out this Father’s Day weekend. Technorati Tags: [...]

Tokidoki designed stuff is all over the place even on your feet. While passing through Nordstroms at Ala Moana, I saw this special release of Tokidoki-themed Onitsuka Tiger kicks where customers could meet designer Simone Legno as well. Here are shots of the men’s Tokidoki selection. Technorati Tags: Ala Moana, Kicks, shoes, sneakers

So how do $10 Big Ben kicks from Steve & Barry’s compare with other kicks? Not bad considering the cost. For the price of a Hamilton, don’t expect sheer luxury ala Air Jordans, but these kicks are wearable. They kind of feel like a pair of $60 Nike shoes. To keep costs down, there’s no [...]
