Since Starbucks is making way for Seattle’s Best Coffee in the Borders location at Windward Mall, I figured I better give them a chance. While picking up some Pinoy power at the Ward Borders, I juiced up at Seattle’s Best.

The coffee was good, but the service was great! Very friendly staff who was willing to [...]

Some things just never change. There was hope, but I wondered if Windward Mall really had it together. The unfortunate answer is clearly evident after I saw this.

Yes, the Starbucks inside Borders Books at Windward Mall is closing. Can you name another location where both a McDonalds and Starbucks closed its businesses? Signs of a [...]

Give with Starbucks Red

by Gee Why on December 1, 2008

in Addiction, starbucks

Starbucks and (PRODUCT)RED have joined up to donate funds to the Global Fund. With each purchase of Starbucks’ holiday drinks (peppermint mocha twist, gingersnap latte, or espresso truffle), Starbucks donates a nickel to save lives in Africa. When making your purchase at Starbucks locations, look for the big red ( ) and [...]

As SBUX stock continues to plummet, the Starbucks brand is trying new ways to connect to customers. Recently, Starbucks has made a strong push into social networks now with a presence in YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.
Through these mechanisms, Starbucks has made some announcements like its World AIDS day contributions, (STARBUCKS)RED drink donations, and a [...]

Global Cuisine and Scatology

by Gee Why on November 16, 2008

in starbucks

Our world is a vast place with rich cultures and aged histories. And at the same time, our world is getting smaller through cuisine and scatology!?
Even around the world, common cuisine exists for you and me. A Starbucks in Thailand has the same look and feel (and prices) as a Starbucks in the [...]

Read about some new business partners today.
Starbucks is teaming with (RED), founded by U2’s Bono. “From Nov. 27 to Jan. 2, 5 cents from the sale of each Peppermint Mocha Twist, Gingersnap Latte and Espresso Truffle will go to the Global Fund.”
Tivo is teaming with Netflix. By year’s end, Tivo users will be [...]

Rare Starbucks Sight

by Gee Why on October 19, 2008

in Addiction, hawaii, starbucks

This might be the first for me – seeing a shutdown Starbucks location.
Like McDonalds in its heyday, once a location opened, it’d be there forever. Not so anymore. This is the location inside the Hokua luxury condo planned for closure along with four other SBUX locations in Hawaii.

Now that Barack Obama has left the Aloha State, how about starting up some vacation packages modeled after Barack’s stay? If I were a local tour guide, I’d do something like this…
Day 1. Pick up visitors from the airport then cart them off to Keehi Lagoon Beach Park. Allow visitors to make [...]

Starbucks will be giving away free Vivanno drinks this weekend to those with registered Starbucks cards. On July 25 and 26, you can taste a healthy dose of Orange Mango Banana or Banana Chocolate and see if the Vivannos stand a chance against its former Jamba Juice sibling.
I guess you’ll have to pay for [...]

For the longest time, I thought Starbucks and Jamba Juice were conjoined twins. You usually see one right next to the other. That’s why I was confused to hear of Starbucks’ latest Vivanno fruit drinks. Why bother with a Jamba-like creation when the real deal was usually a few doors away?
I asked [...]

The Vivanno Cometh

by Gee Why on July 15, 2008

in Addiction, starbucks

No, it’s not a car, but Starbucks’ new nutritious blended fruit drinks launching today. The Vivanno Nourishing Blends feature flavors like the Orange Mango Banana and Banana Chocolate and contain at least one serving of fruit.
And yes, you can customize these drinks like adding a shot of espresso. Not sure if I’ll try [...]

While at a Starbucks the other day, I noticed they were selling their Doubleshot Energy+Coffee drinks in a can. This “premium energy coffee drink” comes in vanilla or mocha and is around $3 for 15 oz (200 Calories per can).
So after a long, long week shackled to PowerPoint and tied up in practice sessions, [...]

Free WiFi at Starbucks?

by Gee Why on June 2, 2008

in starbucks

Free WiFi access at Starbucks might be available starting tomorrow. With a registered Starbucks card, the proposed plan provides 2 hours of free wireless access per day.
Enough time to have an off-site work meeting!

Before a meeting with Coco Bean, I headed out to Starbucks to check out their new summer drinks for 2008.
I went with a Doubleshot on Ice + Energy which contains vitamin B, ginseng, and guarana for some extra mental sharpness. At first, I thought this drink was a cop out using the canned Starbucks [...]

It’s only week 2 of the recent Starbucks Pick of the Week music promotion, and already it’s off to a shaky start in Hawaii. I found the first Pick, the Counting Crows’ Washington Square, but that’s all.
I haven’t been able to find the pick for week 2 at two Starbucks locations. I went [...]

Last summer, Starbucks went fruity with their drink lineup. There was orange in June, raspberry in July, and blueberry in August.
According to Starbucks Gossip, the summer of ‘08 will feature a zingier array of drinks:

Mint Chip Frappuccino with Chocolate Whipped Cream
Blended Lemonade or Blended Green Tea Lemonade with Fresh Lemon Zest
Double Shot + Energy

To appease the greenness that is the motherly (again?) Coco Bean, I found a way to reuse my Starbucks Splash Stick. Give them to your kids and let them have fun with it.
You see, a sippy cup of water isn’t complete without its own Splash Stick.

Part of the appeal of Starbucks’ new Pikes Place roast is its freshness. The coffee is made and served fresh, not sitting more than 30 minutes. The coffee beans for the Pikes are also freshly roasted, but I guess “roasted fresh” means something else in Starbucks parlance.
What do you think “roasted fresh” means? [...]

Okay, so I didn’t think of Starbucks new Splash Sticks. That honor supposedly goes to Seattle Stix Chick, and people are reportedly loving them. Love them or hate them, they’re here.
My idea piggy backs off of the Splash Stick after drinking some Splash Stuck Pikes Place roast the other morning. What do [...]

I’m no Coffee Master and know nothing of coffee smell, slurping, or geography of my palate, but I do know Starbucks new Pikes Place Roast is easy to drink. This freshly roasted and brewed coffee is not bitter or overwhelming, but it also ain’t Heaven in a cup you know? It’s simply a [...]
