What can I say? I’m easily impressed or so it seems since I was starstruck at the past weekend’s Iolani Fair. Who’d I see right after entering faux Rome? Twitter-lebrity @farmershawaii. No, he wasn’t peddling Farmers Hawaii gear but was chillaxing with the family.
Even though the food booth lines were crazy long, I waited for a waffle dog and saw High School Basketball Coach of the Year, Dean Shimamoto, working the booth. Even with a championship, Coach showcased his One Team spirit by volunteering.
Aren’t you impressed by the star quality? No? Then how about this one? Guess who took this pic on the trolley ride over to the Fair? 🙂
After a small setback in Week 4 of Dancing with the Stars, the ferocious dancing of Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough are boy, oh boy, back. Their Pretty Woman tango was sharp and precise with the right amount of pace changes.
I gotta give props to Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya. Normally, I ain’t an Anna fan, but I was compelled by their Armageddon rumba.
Erin Andrews and Maksim Cherkovskiy did a decent Pulp Fiction quickstep. Jake Pavelka was shirtless during the promo and pant-less during his performance. Bruno was swooning. Methinks the Bachelor is safe for one more week.
Chad Ochocino spends too much time macking and not enough time dancing. Daddy Mack gotta impress the fans and judges more than impressing Cheryl Burke. I actually think Pamela Anderson is a genius. Maybe not in the academic sense, but how she understands characters and can play the part quickly and flawlessly. And she can dance.
Niecy Nash, you funny for real, but your time is getting close. Perhaps Week 5 will be it unless Kate Gosselin rightfully goes home.
Vans Sneakers is having a contest for custom made kicks and local art students at Moanalua High School are in the running. The Menehune hand painted aloha themes of surfing, whales, and sunsets on their entries.
Impassioned Jamie Oliver who’s leading the Food Revolution in America has taken the Revolution to a next level. Starting with his television show in West Virginia, Jamie is now online, using Facebook and Twitter to preach his words of healthy, fresh food.
To help the cause, you can sign his petition to bring better food to schools. But Jamie can explain better…
A nice treat to start the morning, free coffee from Starbucks for bringing in my traveler’s mug and at the same time, save our forests.
That’s Nigel Barker who I’ve recently learned is an awesome photographer and a judge on America’s Next Top Model. He’s been described as “hella sexy” but he’s also hella cool.
Barker is in Hawaii supporting the USO and touring various local schools talking about photography and other efforts he’s involved in. He rocks a hella stylin’ MacBook Pro (that challenges the tech hookup at some of the schools unless you can work magic like a Menehune). And most importantly, he’s hella nice, patiently answering questions from the kids and signing autographs for the fans. What a hell of a guy!
Like Week 3 of Dancing with the Stars, I didn’t see any particular standouts on Week 4. Lots of “meh” performances once again. Sure, there was some good dancing, but nothing great. So my pick for the week (since she survived yet again) is Kate Gosselin’s tango which the judges praised as a small breakthrough.
Sadly, Aiden Turner and Edyta were eliminated this week. They weren’t contenders, but the clothing-challenged Edyta is a fan favorite. Niecy Nash was in the bottom two with an one-note rumba. Jake Pavelka stumbled but was saved.
Erin Andrews did okay but I don’t remember her tango. Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya had the best scores, but I just can’t get into this couple. The smooth Chad Ochocinco used all of his chocolate-ness for his best performance to date. Even with awesome scores, Nicole Scherzinger’s nerves got to her and she cracked in the post-dance interview.
And did Len say Pamela Anderson had too much clothes on for her rumba? There are those rumored house rules for Pamela, the ones requiring her to wear underwear during her performances. But DWTS has no rules about paying your taxes…
Glee finally returned to the airwaves and gave the fans another side of Sue Sylvester. Check out a Madonna-inspired and empowered Sue singing Vogue. Strike a pose!
I was just saying that Hawaii doesn’t have enough froyo spots on this island, and look what we get! Cherry on Top frozen yogurt is coming to Hawaii in the Pearl City area across of Walmart.
Their flavors sound good, and they have to be in order to keep pace in the Froyo Wars. Who’s winning? Yogurtland? Menchies? Orange Tree, no wait, Orange Grove? Milano Freezer? Cerealremix? Oh wait, they don’t serve froyo… yet. 😉
Now this is a role reversal. Armin van Buuren’s State of Trance 2010 released this week and is available from Amazon and iTunes. The Amazon version is a continuous mix of songs while iTunes sells the individual tracks along with the continuous mix. Usually, it’s the other way around.
So $10 on Amazon for a continuous mix that you can’t skip songs or $16 on iTunes for the individual 31 tracks (including the mixes)… If you’ve ever worked out with a continuous mix, you know the hassles of being stuck with sucky songs and trying to fast forward through it but not skip to the next track on your playlist.
On Thursday, April 15, you can save our forests by cutting back on paper cups. To help this cause, Starbucks is giving away free brewed coffee if you bring in a reusable travel mug.
