How Lijit Are My Readers?

While I’ve had an account with Lijit for some time, I never really maximized the service. I started playing with it a bit more, and their reported demographics for Pulpconnection readers goes like this.

Caucasian 99%

College graduate education 55%

Is that you, my pulpy reader? Are you a youngish, college educated, single caucasian female with no children? It doesn’t really matter to me. I love all my visitors!

I’ve Been Civil Beat-en!

Ooops, sorry about that. Pulpconnection was beaten civilly (I think) by a Civil Beat tweet. There was a big spike in server resources (see that blue and red lines climb?) that made this site unresponsive.

Rebooted and now back online (kinda sorta). #becivil!

Who Says AOL is Irrelevant?

Remember that spike in Pulpconnection visits and views checking out the buttery sweetness of Starbuck’s new Toffee Mocha? Can you believe the cause of this was AOL? Yes, that oldie but goodie AOL. The one who was sending you countless CDs in the mail just a few years ago.

Even now, if you go to search.aol.com and look for “starbucks toffee mocha,” you’ll see something like this (well, except for the Yay!).

What’s Hotter then Racy? Buttery Sweetness!

So both you and I thought racy was hot. It is… but not as hot as buttery sweetness!

Maybe it’s the hot weather, and people want something cool to drink, but I just don’t why this simple post about Starbucks new (and delicious) Toffee Mocha is blowing up right now. On a Saturday too (which are typically slow bloggy days). Maybe I’ll go out and get myself a Toffee Mocha or perhaps a SBUX PSL.

On Labor Day, the visit count to Pulpconnection hit 300,000 lifetime according to SiteMeter. That’s almost one year to the day when this site reached 200,000 visits (just one day off)!

The lucky visitor was looking up Princess Leia kicks and is a Mac user running an older version of Mac OS X.

Again, thanks to all Pulpconnection visitors, readers, followers, fans (and even haters!) who have passed through this site. Can you believe it’s been five years for this labor of pulp, passions, and addictions?

The visits from Google dwarf Bing and Yahoo by a factor of ten. I’m surprised to see Feedburner that high on the list. Not sure what’s up with Gleesongs.com. Interestingly enough the visual linkwithin widget is contributing to traffic, more so than Twitter. Facebook wasn’t in the top 10 but came in at #14.

From recent analytics, I knew I <3 Twilight, Jacob and Taylor Lautner, and these latest stats enforce Team Jacob’s fandom.Â But would I have guessed that pimping out Jacob Black would turn into a blessing?

In December 2008, I made the switch from Google’s Blogger to WordPress, and Pulpconnection visits tanked.Â Links and URLs broke or changed, ruining Pulpconnection’s standings with search engines.Â But look what happened in October and November 2009, activity finally caught up with and exceeded averages from one year ago.

That’s the blessing ofÂ being Taylor Lautner’s boy toy!Â So I’d like to say thanks to Taylor, he of the washboard abs.

Comparing Stats Tracking

With SiteMeter’s outage over the weekend due to Black Friday traffic, I had to check out the other stats tracking services I have installed on Pulpconnection. That’s right, others. While I primarily rely on SiteMeter to count visits, I dabble with other services to see how they compare.

For a quick and dirty comparison, here are the stats provided by SiteMeter after they came back online. Notice the goose eggs for Saturday and Sunday.

Scoping Google Analytics to similar dates yields the following visits. Look at the difference in visit counts between the two services.

And lastly, here’s one more from 103bees.com. This service emphasizes search engine traffic, but counting visits is a side effect. Their numbers match more like SiteMeter results.

I also have MyBlogLog tracking enabled thanks to their Recent Readers widget. But since I have this widget so far down in my sidebar, I don’t think it creates enough impressions to accurately track visits.

So while SiteMeter was down on Saturday, November 24, Pulpconnection received between 112 and 225 visits and for Sunday, between 110 and 160 visits.

SiteMeter Outage?

Not sure what happened, but I can’t get the SiteMeter stats for Pulpconnetion. The tracker logo/code is not showing up on the page and when trying to log into SiteMeter for reports, I’ve been getting this message:

The Site Meter database for your account is currently unavailable. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

Only thing is the few minutes has been a few days. Wonder what happened?

Update: SiteMeter confirmed technical issues with their system.

Update 2: SiteMeter is saying all the traffic from Black Friday made their servers crumble. In either case, Pulpconnection SiteMeter stats tracking is working again.
