Valentine’s Day started off ugly as wind and rained marred the morning. As the day progressed, the sun started to peek out as we went car shopping. The night was topped off with a nice family cookout.

On Sunday, the sun was out and so were the people. The Makapuu lighthouse trail was absolutely packed as we drove by. Instead of hiking, we went exploring the tide pool areas of Sandy Beach. The kids managed to catch some fish then went swimming. A trip to Ross yielded some cool wall clocks.

Dinner that night was at Mexico Restaurant. Highly recommended, it was crowded at an early hour – a good sign! Sadly, I was unimpressed as my Mexico Burrito arrived cold.

President’s Day was a catchall kind of day. Running errands, we ended up in town. Unfortunately, Hawaiian Pie Company was closed, but next-door Saveco was open. Saw some interesting goods like Sony AV receivers, but I didn’t pull the trigger.

Lunch was at the old time Bob’s. My loco moco was okay, but the hamburger patties were pre-made.

A visit to Marukai always brings me surprises. You never know what you’re going to find there like this Stainless Steel soap and Tony the Tiger appearing with Hello Kitty.

All in all, a simple but fun-filled weekend.

So take a look around and spot those cars with the top down, GPS on the dash, pale skin passengers taking all kinds of pictures, and possibly blaring Arashi tunes!

Okay, okay, the image doesn’t depict your typical Hawaii tourist but it’s Ariane so I had to include this pic!

Even at night, it’s still atsui.

This iced coffee comes in three flavors, unsweetened, lightly sweetened, and caramel and is 50-60 calories per 8 fl oz (depends on the flavor). As a size comparison, here is the iced coffee bottle next to a Starbucks refrigerated latte boxed drink.

The oddest aspect of this bottle is the girth of the cap. It’s huge, or so you think. When you unscrew the cap, you might be underwhelmed with its actual size.

Heck, even this convo could have been lost over the years if not for my tinkering with the Twitter Tools plugin. Thank goodness for a weekly Twitter update published by Twitter Tools that captured these tweets.

Hammer returning to the airwaves after leaving? Yes, please!

I’m wondering if this is related to that under construction commercial I keep hearing on 96.3. Seems like Dave Lancaster and Sister Sherry are gone from the morning. Just have to be patient and keep monitoring the radio waves for the return of Hammer.

I’m almost compelled to watch this show since it’s so outrageous. I can only imagine the quotables from this film. Thanks @ryankanno for the tip.

I have a new advent calendar this year, thanks to the prospective demise of Hostess.

Enjoy one golden sponge cake each and every day of December leading up to Christmas. Who needs Christmas with a Twinkie a day? Wonder if these Twinkies advent calendars would sell on eBay?

Ease up people, it’s a joke. Don’t worry, we’ll all get our iPhones soon enough.

1. Dessert. @abaggy excelled in this category! Love this one.
   
2. A scenic view. This was a gimme on a cruise through Alaska. This pic is cool.
   
3. Shipboard entertainment. Only diehards sit poolside to watch a movie in the cold.
   
4. A towel sculpture. Sad this sculpture, but it’ll do.
   
5. Two different ethnicities of food. Japanese sushi prepared by Filipino chefs and American cuisine. Check.
6. A workout room. FAIL! But I can’t really blame him although I would have accepted the many flights of stairs as a workout room.
7. “Wildlife” (could be interpreted many ways). Sleeping seals are wildlife.
   
8. Cold. Yep, he has a few pictures of glaciers and icebergs. Brrrr.
9. Gluttony. I would have preferred a more interpretive rendition of gluttony like stacks of cleared plates after a meal, but his picture of an overflowing plate of food is gluttonous enough.

Bonus

• Crepuscular rays. No to this bonus as @abaggy was too mesmerized by the scenery, ships’ activities, or eating.
• Mankini. This was the most difficult item on his list. Techically, he didn’t find a mankini, but his substitutes are bonus worthy. Fur lined skivvies!
