The Spam Jam in Waikiki is later today, and Olukai is launching their collaboration slippers with Spam at the event. But, the three color ways are now online only via their mobile app.

The Nori/Dark Coral is men’s and women’s sizing. Ocean blue (dark blue) is men’s only. Bold blue (bright blue) is women’s sizing only. $80 each for the Ohana model.

These collabs are also available in store and assuming any leftovers online at a later time.

As with other collaborations, I’m guessing that once these are sold out, they are gone for good. I need a restock of these Zippys bangers!

And… we’re off! A collection of Melin hats is now building, starting with this Odysea Hydro from the Yellow Jacket collection. Since this is a collaboration, the cost of the hat is $10 higher, but Hawaii residents are in luck.

If you shop at a Melin store in Waikiki, Maui, or Kauai, Hawaii residents get a kamaaina discount of 10%. Looks like I’ll be frequenting Waikiki a little more often now…

Melin definitely has some love for Hawaii. On a bigger scale, they’re supporting relief efforts from recent flooding with direct donations and also proceeds of sales from the Islands Collection.

On a smaller, personal scale, the local Melin stores offer kamaaina discounts of 10%. Since prices online and in-store are the same, this is a solid discount if you can make it to one of the locations in Waikiki, Maui, or Kauai.

My Best Recent Investment

No, it’s not the Enhance Turbo MPP pickleball paddle, but a Tesla PowerWall system that’s been my best recent investment. We’ve been plagued with short-term and medium-term power outages quite frequently over the years, but 2025 and so far, 2026 has been even worse. The power outages typically have been lasting hours.

But all of this anxiety is now alleviated with a PowerWall battery system. Our refrigerator stays cool and the basic electrical necessities are taken care of. And this Storm Watch mode that charges the battery ahead of bad weather is a very smart feature.

Optimizing the Enhance Turbo Cost to Hawaii

So yes, the Enhance Turbo MPP is a must have paddle for the price. But like I mentioned before, that cost for Hawaii is higher due to $30 shipping. Discount codes will knock the Turbo price down from $119.99 to $99.99 with free shipping in the continental US. But Hawaii being Hawaii, getting goods here simply costs more.

However, if you order multiple Turbos (MPP or EPP models), it looks like the shipping is still $30 for the entire order. However, the $20 code discount applies only once, not to each paddle.

Not exactly sure when this happened, but apparently Target no longer ships Pokemon cards to Hawaii. If you check the product description like this one, you’ll see this blurb in the Shipping & Returns section.

I vaguely recall several years ago that this shipping embargo happened as well, at least for sports cards. Not sure how long that lasted but eventually Target did start shipping cards to Hawaii again. Hopefully, this is temporary or does Target want to drive more in-store foot traffic?

Either way, boo, Target, boooooo!

I Am a Melon Head

…and maybe a future Melin head. After hearing the Pickleball Studio mention their love of hats by Melin, I went online to research. They sure have a lot of variations, models, and design combinations – almost overwhelmingly too many.

I literally stopped looking through their web site after seeing all the products. It would be easier if I could see their hats in real life to help figure out which shape would work best for my melon. Then this melon head wondered where Melin was sold. I used the Melin store locator and found a bunch of vendors in Hawaii, including a brand store in Waikiki. Even HIC and Nordstrom sells some Melin products, so I’ll be making a visit to see what makes Melins so good.

Liking these color designs but $80+.

All this wind is causing major disruptions. An outage that was supposed to be two hours long went on for at least five hours.

Resurfaced Pickleball Courts in Mililani

Not exactly sure which Mililani recreation center this is, but it’s been resurfaced to include 8 pickleball courts! The four in the middle are permanent, and it appears that there are lines marked for two PB courts in the nearest tennis court (and guessing two more on the far tennis court).

Pickleball Courts on Oahu

Doing a quick search for pickleball courts on Oahu, I came across the resources of the Oahu Pickleball Association. Although generated a few years back, their compilation of outdoor, public pickleball courts on the island is probably mostly accurate. The list is also available in a Google Maps format so you can visually see the location of courts.

Another useful resource is Pickleheads.com. However, I’ve been using this site to lookup details of courts found on Oahu Pickleball Association.

Hawaii Drivers License on Your iPhone

So it seems that Hawaii residents will soon have a way to add digital versions of their Hawaii Drivers License or State ID to their iPhone wallet. When needed, instead of busting out your physical ID, you can bust out your iPhone, unlock it, pull up your Apple Wallet, and then tap your phone to verify your identity, credentials, and age.

I just want to know if I can now buy alcohol at Target self checkout without having to wait for a clerk to verify my old age. While I’m waiting, I stare into the high quality cameras at checkout, holding my license next to my face, hoping, just hoping there’s a person on the other side of the camera who can approve my purchase. Even if the camera isn’t good enough to pick out my birthdate on my license, the camera definitely highlights my wrinkles and bags under my eyes as I get older.

Reyn Spooner on a Roll

I gotta admit that Reyn Spooner has been on a roll with their recent aloha shirt designs. Along with sytles featuring typical Hawaiian motifs, Reyn has essentially been doing collaborations with well known characters. Godzilla was the first to grab my attenion. Then came the recent rush featuring South Park, Ultraman, and then Rudolph during the holidays. Don’t forget about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Bob Marley mixed in.

But today, Reyn announced yet another must-have in the form of Sponge Bob. The Aloha from Bikini Bottom shirt is great. It only comes in a single color, but the characters complement the base shirt color so well (although I wouldn’t mind a pink-hued shirt inspired by Patrick).

I gotta find the shirt and also a fresh pair of kicks to match!
