If the ninja does not kill the samurai within the first few seconds, the samurai will win. The ninjas use surprise as their tactic. My bet would be that if they did not kill the samurai, they would run and escape then stick around and fight. That is the traditional way of the ninja. Kill your target, then escape.

    That is my theory anyway.

So in a face to face fight without a surprise entrance, the samurai has the advantage?

In that scenario, my money would be on the samurai.

in a face to face situation the samurai would always win because a good ninja would never be caught in that situation.

    hi,
I practice Bujinkan, which includes techniques of samurai and ninjutsu. A thing what I learnt were the differences between Ninja and Samurai. If in a fight a ninja is injured, he will try, in the first opportunity, to escape and recover, returning then to finish his ‘mission’. The Samurai does not leave until his ‘work’ is finished, and clearly, like his tradition, if he lose he will take his own life because of the shame of the defeat.
