The Secret of LOST Island?
This could be the “scientific” explanation of the mysterious island of LOST. Read Lost: A Theory on Time Travel.

While Apple applies for a bunch of patents, this one is interesting. With a “dual sided trackpad” attached to a cell phone, you increase the surface area of interfacing with the phone, but the phone itself can be small.
Sounds like the groundwork for a small iPhone Nano…
I gave up watching the stupid Deal or No Deal game show awhile back. Yes, it was interesting for a short time, but it got redundant even if the producers tried an emotional gimmick or two.
Who knows, in the time I haven’t been watching maybe there was someone supremely confident or someone who used a quirky picking strategy.
Whatever the case may be, there will be a casting call for new contestants at Pearlridge Uptown on March 29. And yes, it is now confirmed. Playing this contest requires no skill whatsoever. Need proof? Just check out the criteria for candidates:
Candidates must be at least 18 or older, project an energetic, charismatic attitude and think quickly on their feet. No other skills are necessary.

Tivo is bringing YouTube to its boxes later this year if and only if you have a Tivo box running the Series3 OS. The Series3 OS is found in Tivo Series3 (no duh) and Tivo HD. So far, this new feature isn’t slated for Series2 boxes. Does this mean Series2 is ending?
This is one of my concerns with getting an older Tivo unit running Series2. How long will Tivo support and advance Series2 with Series3 already out?

What to do? eBay has a Pioneer DVD recorder with Tivo Series 2 and lifetime service going for $465. This is the unit used in FAT land and it’s pretty good. But it is a discontinued unit and has a single tuner and is not HD capable.
A new Tivo Series 2 DT (dual tuner) with lifetime service is also going for $465. But again, not HD capable, and need to buy a Wi-Fi adapter for $50.
Is a Tivo HD with lifetime service worthwhile at $700? Dual tuner and HD ready, but about $250 more. The Tivo HD box itself goes for about $250 so the lifetime service is about $400 (the other $50 is for a Wi-Fi adapter). The Tivo HD unit is easily expandable with more storage using an external eSATA drive.
New shows are starting up soon…

While the latest PepsiStuff is a rip off, I gave it a shot over the past several days. While eating at the Grape Jellyfish Cafe at the Children’s Hospital Central California, I bought a 20-oz Pepsi each day.
My results? After six bottles, I “won” three times, getting buy one, get one (BOGO) free caps. The other caps were just codes redeemed for one point each. So now I have 5 Pepsi Points good for one Amazon MP3 download. If I use my BOGO caps, I’ll have 6 more bottles of fattening Pepsi to drink and possibly win with.
The BOGO odds are 1 in 8 so I’m due for a cold streak.

After seeing a Tivo in action, I must say, very addictive. Now, looking at different Tivo models… Get a new one or a used one on eBay? Lifetime service on an older unit or go with a newer, “future proof” version?
Or there’s the dual tuner Series 2 going for only $100 after a $150 rebate from Tivo. Still need to get a subscription, $130 for a year. Not a bad price…
And lots of shows coming up… LOST, Grey’s Anatomy, Battlestar Galactica, Top Chef (Chicago).
Any recommendations?

Google is offering their new Sites service where users can easily collaborate in a portal like environment. Built off of JotSpot’s wiki environment, Sites targets businesses, going up against Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Notes.
Sites looks to be so easy that it could catch on, viral-fashion, among the many people inside organizations who can’t use or don’t want to go through the hassle of getting on Sharepoint or Lotus Notes—or who don’t want to go through those products’ learning curves.
Sounds interesting…

Yikes! Get your caffeine fix in right now cuz there’ll be a major outage come later today. ALL Starbucks nationwide will be closing today at 5:30 (local times) for mandatory training to “energize” its workers.
I saw this training memo at a Starbucks yesterday but didn’t read it closely and assumed it was only for that location, not all the locations across America. I have to admit that I was a little dismayed a few years back to see an automatic espresso maker at a Starbucks airport location (San Fran was it?). I was glad to see the familiar Starbucks logo greeting me at the terminal, and there was a long queue (I really don’t like the word queue, but I’ll give it a try). But caffeine withdrawal in full effect, I waited in line only to see a clueless barista simply push a button to start my drink. That let down is what this training session is targeting to get back the “Starbucks experience.”
Thanks to pulp reader, Loudicris, for sending this in.
A real quick giveaway of free music on iTunes. I got three iTunes song credits left from last year’s Starbucks promotion. These credits expire the end of February, and I’m giving them away.
First three two Pulp fans who name a song they want, I’ll go to the iTunes Store and gift it to you. I’m reserving one of these songs for Pulp reader T who made some musical recommendations for me.
I love it when Duane Dog Chapman talks local kine:
I am heartbroken that this has occurred, but I am relieved that my son in now in a place where he can no longer hurt himself. To my bruddahs in the system: please don’t hurt my son as he knows not what he does. I love my son and wish him the best.
His son, who sold out pops for “a lot of money” is in trouble with the law for multiple violations of his parole.
But I guess those “I love you guys” signs meant something since the Bounty Hunter is returning.
