Support the Cherry Blossom Festival
Never paid too much attention to local pageants before but how about throwing support behind the 56th Cherry Blossom Festival? How can’t you with this year’s theme of Magokoro o komete รขโฌโ With a Sincere Heart?
The contestants are gearing up for the pageant with public appearances at your local shopping malls. Up next is Pearlridge on February 16 then Ala Moana on February 23, culminating with the Festival Ball on March 21.
If you want to attend the Festival Ball (and vote in the Miss Popularity Contest), fill out this form with payment of $80 per attendee.
Go Keri!

Music Buzz from Blogs
Can blogging about music lead to better album sales? Just maybe according to this article. From some studies, online buzz about an album on blogs and MySpace tends to lead to better sales.
Wonder if Laga Savea’s Roots Satisfaction will see any kind of increase from my indirect post? ๐
Another way to get better sales is to be featured on an Apple product commercial. Feist’s single 1234 blew up as the soundtrack for the iPod Nano. Now New Soul by Yael Naim is climbing the charts as the song of the MacBook Air.
Word Up! Surprise
While driving to work, my random play iPod started pumping out Word Up! But this wasn’t the classic version done by Cameo. It was Korn yelling Word Up at me.
Didn’t know I had that song…

Why Barack Obama Could Win
Me and politics don’t mix. Yeah, I admit it, I’m one of those uninformed voters. Sorry, just the way it is. But as the curator of Pulpconnection, the home of pulp, passions, and addictions, I am enthralled with cool, fresh ideas. Who ain’t?
And that’s exactly why Barack Obama could very well be our next president. Check out this music video created by will.i.am, inspired by Obama’s speeches, and endorsed by many celebrities.
Kate Walsh, Kelly Hu, Nicole Scherzinger, and Scarlett Johansson all support Obama, and now so does Wayne’s World.
ESPN Online for Free?
I don’t know what ESPN360 is but it sounds like ESPN content “televised” on the web. And it’s a paid service… unless you’re in college or the military.
According to this article, ESPN is making ESPN360 content free for .edu and .mil domains. What can you watch? How about Australian Open tennis? How about college basketball games? How about soccer? How about cricket?!?
Wal-Mart Has Gone Local
You know the big box retailer Wal-Mart has embraced the local Hawaii culture after seeing Sunday’s weekly ad. Here is the last page of the ad showing all kinds of stuff for Chinese New Year.
Hey look, Year of the Rat tee shirts are available! From what I understand that’s a great year. Rats are cool, no wait, they’re fresh, no wait, they’re sexy fresh!

Stories from the Cold
While hearing stories about visiting the Maui Space Surveillance Complex and its 38 degree weather is neat, how about hearing stories about living in Antarctica for three years?
Recently found out that a high school classmate has been working and living in Antarctica since 2005 and has been blogging about her experiences at penguinsandpinkboots.blogspot.com.

Ann Curry and the TODAY show recently visited the McMurdo Station for a story (don’t know if it aired yet… probably). Sorry, no stories about finding huge frozen robotic exoskeletons stuck in the ice, just the daily realities of living on Earth’s southern most continent (with lots of great pictures).
Go check out Penguins and Pink Boots.
Looking for Music Suggestions
When Starbucks had their gift card promotion that included iTunes songs, I stocked up and have some credit for music singles saved up. But these credits expire at the end of February so I’m looking for some fresh songs to buy. What are your suggestions?
Here are my most recent buys:
- Stay (I Missed You) [Acoustic Version] – Lisa Loeb
- Don’t Stop the Music – Rihanna
- Gorgeous (Tracy Young Remix) – Idina Menzel
- Feedback – Janet
- Too Hot to Stop (Pt. 1) – The Bar-Kays
- Flashback Party Weekend – Lyle Workman

No Coqui Killas
To help curb the coqui frog problem in Hawaii, the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board thought of a program enlisting the help of kids. By killing the coqui, kids would receive iPods and Xbox 360s.
School principals balked at this idea of vigilante kids eradicating a species, even an invading foreign one. Coqui killas!

Frank De Lima’s Tribute to UH Football and June Jones
Today’s Honolulu Advertiser mentioned that local comedian Frank De Lima recorded three songs that paid tribute to the UH Warriors football season and now departed head coach June Jones.
Go listen to Hawaii, We Did It, Hawaii Marches On, and What June Jones, You Going Leave Us Now?

UH Versus Nevada Men’s Basketball
Coming up on Saturday night, UH opens up a home stance with WAC opponent Nevada Wolfpack. Blogger’s privilege got four tickets to the event.
The theme is Green and White Night and I think the way it’s described we’re wearing green, sitting behind the team benches.
