Gotta Love the Civil Simplicity
You have to love Civil Beat’s display of the 2012 poll results. So clean and simple with a clear view of the information.
The coverage of the Star Advertiser isn’t bad but relies on a slider to navigate between the various results.
At least the Star Advertiser removed that obnoxious advertisement they had in 2010.
From Netflix to Amazon Prime
With Amazon offering a monthly subscription to their Prime service, I’m temporarily dropping Netflix to test out the Prime waters. Although Hawaii doesn’t enjoy the free two-day shipping, Prime members do get free standard shipping which is still one up on the free Super Saver shipping. Now I don’t have to look for $25 worth of goods to buy in order to qualify for Super Saver shipping. And with the Holiday crunch, the few days saved via Standard shipping should help get gifts here on time.
At about $8 a month, it’s not a big deal to try out the Prime service for two months. I’m interested in seeing the performance of their streaming video service. Looks like there are some good movies available while my Netflix DVD queue only has old movies and television series, so canceling Netflix isn’t a huge loss.
I still have to read up on the Kindle book rental service. Does it work with Kindle apps on iPhones and iPads? I don’t have an actual Kindle device (nor will I get one).
So bottomline, I’m banking on taking advantage of the free (and faster) shipping for two months to make the subscription cost worthwhile.
Holiday Gift Guide: Board Shorts from Crazy Shirts
Yep, if you don’t already know but Crazy Shirts has more than just shirts. Oh, I do love their shirts (designs and dyes), but they have great shorts as well. Check out these Surf Fin Eco HydroPrint Board Shorts.
Fashionable even when you’re not at the beach and even cooler, the shorts’ design patterns changes when wet. A great gift for an active Dad.
And to be on the up and up, I’m now an affiliate for Crazy Shirts, but I wouldn’t be if I weren’t a fan. 🙂
Take a Flight to Middle Earth
Air New Zealand welcomes you to take a flight to Middle Earth, but first you must watch the all important flight safety video.
Belkin Grip Candy Sheer Black and Green
While I’m pleased with my Belkin Grip Candy Sheer case in gravel/reflection (i.e. teal and black), I think the black/green color combo is a better look, especially on a black iPhone 5.
Oh yeah, Best Buy now carries the black/green Belkin case if you’re looking to buy.
Update 11/28/2012: Here’s one more image of the case still in its box.

Shutting Down My Kicks Buying Bender
With the Holidays fast approaching, I need to stop my kicks buying bender. I’ve been on a roll recently adding more and more shoes to my collection. Kicks have been incoming faster than outgoing ever since I discovered Nike’s online clearance section. You never know what you’ll find there and oftentimes, it’s something good at a great (cheap) price. Not only that but shipping for purchases over $99 is free and return shipping of unwanted items is free for Nike members. So all around, great perks if you’re looking to buy a pair (or two or three) of shoes.
After getting the Air Max Trainer 1.3, Jordan Trunner Flash (and returning them), and the Jordan Dominate, I thought I was set. Yes, thought.
Then came some pre-release images of the Nike Roshe Run Trail. Since learning of the Zen origin of the Roshe Run, I’ve been looking for a pair, but the ones I’ve seen in the wild were all mainland bought. Then finally, the Roshe Run Trail version showed up at Nike.com. I bought them though at original cost, giving me three pairs of shoes in about two months.
And now it’s time to end it for 2012, really end it. My collection is at capacity, and I need to save funds for Christmas presents. So no matter what Air Max Express, LeBron X, Braata Mid, Fighter Jet Foamposites, or Flyknit Trainers release in the next few months, I must resist and be satisfied with these in cargo khaki/white-canyon gold-black.
Coffee Can Explain Many Things
Who knew coffee was not only a source of caffeine but a way to explain many things including social media services. Confused? You won’t be after viewing the below graphic.
Thanks to the Marketplace Maven for this coffee-based tutorial.
LeBron No Ka Oi
All I can say about this release of LeBron X+ is LeBron No Ka Oi.
A high school basketball team decked out in $200 team sneakers? Only at private school! 😉
Yes, I know the image is big and extends outside the main column, but I kinda like this effect. I’ll probably leave it large for awhile. 🙂 Okay, scaled it down to size.
Starbucks Kaka’ako Now Open

While you’re there, you can check out this store’s unique decor. Every Starbucks has common design elements, but you do see differences from store to store. At this Coral Street location, you’ll see a mix of industrial and natural designs. The floor is concrete with divits and discolorations but features many in-ground electrical outlets, especially alongside the window seating.
There are a number of window-side stools and higher bar stools and tables for patrons. There’s a single elongated table in the middle and a few comfortable chairs near the front entrance. It seems Starbucks doesn’t want you getting too comfy and camping out for long durations (that’d be you UH medical students 🙂 ).
The best accent of this location is the wood bar facade and countertop. There’s a wood “brick” appearance topped off with a dark wooden counter. This adds organic naturalness that contrasts the hard concrete.

While no Starbucks in Hawaii is a Clover location, I could see this spot featuring the Clover one day. And it just struck me that like the tall exterior of this location, there are lots of tall, skinny elements inside the store. The tables and stools emphasizes a more vertical space if that makes sense.
One last note – don’t forget that the Holiday drinks are now available – Peppermint Mocha Frap, Gingerbread Latte, and the Caramel Brulee Latte.
Amazon Deal on Panasonic Cordless Phones
Amazon’s Black Friday special for today includes a Panasonic cordless phone set. Although it comes with a whopping 5 handsets (one on the basestation and four free standing units), there’s a $40 discount, making this set a good deal.
It also features bigger buttons and a clear, big, bright display – perfect for the aging generation. From the reviews, speaker phone volume is good. No Bluetooth link to cell phones but a big deal. Get it today while the deal is still on!
