Day 2 Entry is Up
Sorry for the delay, but pictures and a short blurb about Day 2, the day after surgery, is now available.
Sorry for the delay, but pictures and a short blurb about Day 2, the day after surgery, is now available.
Things are going well here. Surgery is done with no complications. The long road to recovery is ahead…
Now that things are looking a little better, here are some sights from Hope by the Way of FAT.
CompUSA closed its doors in Hawaii, and I can also report the CompUSA location in FAT is also closed for business. Their sign is still on the building, but the building’s been cleared out.
Business at next door Best Buy was brisk.
The weather ain’t too bad. Though morning times are really cold.
Here’s the predicted forecast for the week.
Before things get too serious here, a blurb about a star sighting at SFO Airport. In between flights at the food court area, I saw this bearded guy who looked familiar. Sure enough, it was musician Jack Johnson who recently released his latest work, Sleep Through the Static.
Even though he looked a bit out of it (as most travelers do), he was cool enough to take a picture.
Thanks Jack! Sleep Through the Static just got another sale.

With parenthood comes the best and worst of times. I’ve thought about what to say for this post for some time, but now the words fail me.
All I know is I want my son to have a chance – a chance at freedom, a chance at normalcy, a chance to live.
I’ll keep this short and leave with lyrics from a song that’s been stuck in my head for awhile. It’s the Foo Fighters Times Like These…
it’s times like these you learn to live again
it’s times like these you give and give again
it’s times like these you learn to love again
it’s times like these time and time again
In the market for new baby stuff? For this week only, Amazon has a sale on Britax baby items. Britax is the makers of the great safety conscious Boulevard, Decathlon, Roundabout, and Marathon car seats. Or if you need to upgrade, Britax makes booster seats too.
Britax also makes Bugaboo-like strollers at a fraction of the cost of a real Bugaboo.
Until March 2, 2008, Britax items on Amazon are 20% off.
Luckily nothing happened when a tiger escaped from the Honolulu Zoo yesterday. How did the tiger escape? Check out the security latch of the tiger den.
Actually, this pic was taken while the new tiger den was under construction.

Even with over 300 new features touted in Mac OS X 10.5, aka Leopard, I bought it for one reason and one reason only, Time Machine. The automated backup feature of Leopard makes backing up your data unbelievably easy. Connect an external drive, turn on Time Machine, and that’s it.
But this peace of mind comes with a steep price that I continue to pay. For Time Machine to work, you need an external drive of at least the same size as your internal. So if you have a 250 GB internal drive, you need an external drive 250 GB or more. Got a 500 GB internal then you need 500+ GB free on an external drive.
While external drive costs have come down, the big drives are still costly. And so while I rely on Time Machine for worry free backups, I’ve also spent a bundle on external drives. My home iMac has a Western Digital My Book. My work MacBook Pro uses an older but big enough Maxtor drive, but what about when I’m out of the office? I need to ensure my valuable work is retained so of course, I need a portable external drive when I’m away from the office.
So for those three drives for Time Machine backups, the Leopard upgrade must have totaled an additional $400. Dang, Time Machine is costly!

While taking a lunch time walk around the workplace neighborhood, a security guard stopped me and started giving me the 3rd degree.
“What are you doing around here?” “You from this area?” I was thinking I was going to have to yell, “Don’t tase me bro!“
Then I flashed my ID and dropped names of the Tabasco Man and Wayne’s World. The guard then stopped with the questions and said he was looking for someone in particular and sped off.
Rough da neighborhood. Almost like being accosted at the Pro Bowl or going to the Mililani Public Library!
Saw a short note on Macintouch about an update for the Western Digital My Book Home external hard drives. The update addresses computer freezes when My Book Homes drives are connected. Yes, I have experienced this problem many times on my iMac.
Anyway, here is the link to the updated firmware version 1.0.28.
There’s an updated Drive Manager software too, but I don’t know think you need it.
