So You Think You Know Driving?

Do you think Hawaii drivers are bad? Now there’s some evidence validating your hunch. In a small survey taken nationwide, Hawaii drivers ranked 45 out of the 50 states on a written DMV test. Hawaii’s average score was 76.3% and I am sad to say that I brought down Hawaii’s score.

I took the 20-question test and got 70% (now really, who knows how many feet before a turn should you use your turn signal?). How about you? Take the National Driver Test and see how you score!

And before giving me smack about my lower-than-the-Hawaii-average score, be sure to reference the CourtConnect Judiciary Information Management System that publicly shows traffic violations. My middle name is not Kenji!

Return of a King

Coming to Kicks HI this Saturday (June 14) is the return of a king. The all-time classic Air Max 95 Neons will be back in the house for a limited engagement.


I don’t know of many shoes that have had several retro re-releases except this one. Don’t miss out this Father’s Day weekend.

A Safe End for Top Chef Chicago

The stage was set for a tumultuous ending for Top Chef Chicago. The top three finalists of Richard Blais, Lisa Fernandes, and Stephanie Izard drew some controversy, namely with Lisa’s selection over Antonia. But in the end, the rock solid Stephanie was named Top Chef. Watch as the winner is announced.

Stephanie’s win was definitely a safe ending to Season Four. Stephanie and Richard both performed well throughout the entire season, but both had their foibles in the finals. Surprisingly, Lisa appeared to have a very good shot at pulling out the win. She was serene during the prep session and wasn’t flustered when she lost her sous chef. The judges liked her dishes while Stephanie and Richard’s menus had their highs and lows. Lisa’s menu was more consistent, but I think her attitude and character shown through the series was her ultimate downfall.


Even though Top Chef is about making great dishes, character of the chef makes a Top Chef. So the even keeled, mostly non-emotional Stephanie is a deserving winner. Congratulations.

First a female (Kristi Yamaguchi) wins Dancing with the Stars. Now Stephanie is the first female Top Chef winner. Is a female winner of Top Chef Junior next?

No Traffic Drive to Work

Had a clear, traffic-empty drive to work this morning. Forgot it was a state holiday. Made for an enjoyable ride while listening to Alanis Morissette’s latest Flavors of Entanglement. Great stuff! 16 tracks of vintage angry Alanis and some new twists to keep things fresh.

Whenever I listen to the dark Tapes, I keep rewinding the song to hear it again. Classic Alanis. Giggling Again for No Reason shows a newer side to Alanis, featuring electronic dance, pop beats. This one is addicting to hear why Alanis is giggling again for no reason. Contrast this to the expletive-filled Straitjacket – “this $h!t is making me crazy!” Bonus track On the Tequila sounds like a shout out to the hip hop crowd expecting a cameo by Akon or T-Pain.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Flavors of Entanglement, but it’s definitely a buy!

Play Ball! Take Viagra!

Yeah, the drug Viagra is there to help men “perform,” but who knew it could help you on the baseball diamond? Seems like The Rocket and other MLBers pop a purple pill to enhance their on-the-field performance. Just how do you throw a fastball while ragin against erectile dysfunction?

Those post-game locker room interviews must get a little (t)horny.

Apple Still Has a Sense of Humor

And here I was reminiscing about the name change of .Mac to MobileMe where Apple’s .Mac moniker stood against Microsoft’s .NET world dominating (but confusing) strategy. I was so caught up with the announcements of WWDC2008 that I missed Apple’s continued sense of humor at the expense of Microsoft.

Anyone remember Windows Millennium Edition aka Windows ME? This goofy, pseudo release of Windows didn’t go far, and Apple’s “paying homage” to Windows ME with MobileMe. Just compare the Me portions of both logos.
