O-M-G, I’m Getting O-L-D!
What’s this? I’m having an allergic reaction to the Hawaiian vog? Thought I was getting sick but after the rain and return of the tradewinds, my symptoms have gotten a lot better. The vog never bothered me before and I always wondered what people were complaining about.
Along with the new vog allergies, I’ve been listening to 96.3 KRATER and 94.7 KUMU on the radio. OMG! Signs that I’m getting OLD.
I need to do something to recapture my youth… dressing like the Bieber is too over the top… what else can I do? Hmmm, maybe betting braces is the thing…
IPv6 Pulverized the Pulp
Sorry, if you tried getting your pulpy fix on Sunday only to get an error. I tried giving Pulpconnection an IPv6 address, but it seems that after the DNS records were updated, the site became unavailable. I’m not sure why (maybe I didn’t read the instructions close enough), but after removing the IPv6 assignment, things started working again.
It’s no big deal yet but since my hosting provider, Dreamhost, made it easy to assign an IPv6 address for the future, I figured why not. I’ll try to “future ready” this blog again later…
Telephone Service Issues in Kailua?
So there’s been a gradual degradation of telephone service by Hawaiian Telcom over the past week. Here’s what you get when calling their service support line.
[audio:service-outage.mp3]Umm, it’s past Friday, February 18, 2011. What’s up Hawaiian Telcom?
Borders Not Closing on Oahu
Even though Borders has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing many of its stores, all Oahu locations will remain open (so far anyways). However, the Borders locations at Kailua-Kona and Lihue will be closing.
Here’s the list of Borders closures.
Don Quijote Kailua No More
Don Quijote Kailua closed its business on Saturday, February 5, and already their signage is no more.
I’m on TV!
Well sorta. We were at Don Quijote Kailua on their last day of business. The local news stations were there too and filmed me in the background of some clips. Here’s the KHON2 broadcast segment.
Look at the 0:37-0:41 second mark. See the guy wearing the black Air Jordan cap? That’s me walking and loading up the van! Can’t see it? I’ll help you out (click on the images for a larger view).
Yet Another Radio Shakeup
No sooner than I post my Hawaii radio lineup, there’s a shakeup on the airwaves. Gone is 93.1 The Zone and its pop music lineup. From this week, it’s 93.1 Da Pa`ina playing reggae music. Monday I heard Bob Marley, and this morning there was Damian Marley welcoming me to Jamrock.
What’s the deal with the Hawaii radio shakeup?
Photovoltaic Halved My Electric Bill!
In mid-December, our home photovoltaic system installed by RevoluSun went online. Here’s what our HECO electricity consumption looks like.
That’s about half! And of course, that means our monthly bill is half of what we typically pay! Also, keep in mind the short days and abysmal weather in December and January. Remember all that rain, flash flood warnings, and overall overcast skies? Not great for sun-reliant systems, but our photovoltaic system was still able to harness the sun’s energy to reduce our HECO bill significantly. Here’s a daily log of power production from January to February.
Can you imagine what happens when the weather clears and the sun stays out longer? So what are you waiting for? Call RevoluSun at 808-748-8888, ask for Shane (or any consultant), and you can be sun powered! Savings await!
