Supposedly now the water in Waiahole is safe.

So why is my stomach making weird noises?

Oh great. Just last night I ate a plate of kalua pig, rice, and lomi salmon prepared in Waiahole. Now they find out that the water system in Waiahole is contaminated with E.coli.

What does E.coli do to you? “Infection often leads to bloody diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney failure. Infection can occur after eating undercooked meat, drinking raw milk or swimming in or drinking sewage-contaminated water.” Yikes!

Got to hope for the best…

Blogs have hit the Hawaiian mainstream with local newspaper, Honolulu Advertiser, launching its own blogs. There are five separate Advertiser blogs covering a variety of topics.

• The Daily Dish – “everything from relationships to reality TV”
• Mind Your Business – “the people and developments in Hawaii’s business scene”
• Akamai Politics – “covering Hawaii politics and government”
• The Warrior Beat – UH sports coverage, “few reporters get the inside information like he does”
• Volcanic Ash – “totally independent, slightly irreverent and hopelessly idealistic view of people and events in Hawaii and beyond”

I haven’t had a chance to really dig in but hey, at least the Advertiser is on the bandwagon (although KITV has had a blog for some time). But then I’m wondering if these blogs can stand up to the excellence and acumen of favorite blogs of yours and mine?

Now for the criticism. Where’s the RSS feeds for these blogs? These are blogs aren’t they? How else am I supposed to keep up with new posts? You want me to actually visit 5 web sites to see if anything changed? C’mon, I’ll skip these blogs rather than go from one to the next. Too slow you know. Give me a feed that I can scan the headlines and summaries easily. If there’s interesting content then I’ll visit the site for the full experience. The news, sports, business, and other sections of the Advertiser have RSS feeds so why not the blogs where feeds originated from?

Doing a quick View Source on the blogs shows that the Advertiser is using b2evolution as their blogging engine. Generating RSS feeds is a standard feature of this software, so it must be that the Advertiser willing disabled the feeds.
