The iTunes Movie Store Cometh?
According to rumor-site-that’s-pretty-darn-accurate Think Secret, Steve Jobs will unveil the iTunes Movie Store during the upcoming Worldwide Developer’s Conference in August. Downloaded movies will be time crippled and become unplayable after a specified period of time.
This is in contrast to music purchased from the iTunes Music Store where buyers have unlimited playback of their songs. Supposedly, the major movie studios would only go with a rental-based model instead of owning movies outright.
So the next follow on question is, what would you watch these downloaded movies on? Is time ripe for THE video iPod to make its appearance? Much anticipation for August 7!
Word of the Day: Troubadour
Troubadour – a French medieval lyric poet composing and singing in Provençal in the 11th to 13th centuries, esp. on the theme of courtly love. A poet who writes verse to music.
Example. With her sharp-tongued punditry, the Angry Asian Girl of Baby Dog Days must be influenced by Eminem, the rage-filled, rapping modern troubadour.

Asked to Leave Lenscrafters
Let me rewind a bit. After a routine eye exam, my doctor said my prescription has been changing over the years and recommended getting new eyeglasses. Only having had like two, maybe three, pairs of glasses before, I really don’t know where to go so I figured I go to LensCrafters since they’re around most malls.
I went to Downtown Pearlridge to the Lenscrafters next to Longs. Instead I find a vacant spot with a sign saying they’ve relocated to a new location in Uptown Pearlridge (no specifics on location where though). So after getting lunch and a drink from Seattle’s Best, I go to Uptown. I headed towards the Borders side of Uptown figuring there’s lots of space for new stores, but the store wasn’t there. I finally found it next to Macys where McDonalds used to be. It’s a nice place that just opened that day.
As I’m walking around looking at the wall of eyeglass frames, one of the workers comes up to me. But instead of greeting me, she (politely) asks me to leave the store since I have a drink, my coffee from Seattle’s Best. I was surprised since this has rarely happened especially in this age of supersized drinks, juice stores, and coffee bars being the trend. And oh yeah, there’s no sign or anything at the entrance saying the usual “No pets or food allowed.”
I told the employee that I was surprised about this, and she said they wanted to keep the store clean since they just opened. Understandable, but then again this is Pearlridge Mall which is a shopping center which relies on foot traffic, and there are eating places in the mall, and it is flanked by Starbucks in Borders, in the center, and near Circuit City, and it is only a matter of time before the store gets tainted. Oh well… I oblige and walk outside to finish my drink.
Then a few minutes later, a little girl with her dad goes into Lenscrafters, and the girl is drinking a juice smoothie from Robeks(?). So I watch her while standing right in the entry way of the store. I see the same employee who asked me to leave look at the girl, but she does nothing! She doesn’t go to the father and ask them to leave the store. What’s up with that? Okay, I do respect being asked to leave the store due to my drink but not following this so-called policy in a consistent fashion is not right. If you ask me to leave because of a drink, ask EVERYONE with a drink to please leave the store.
So Lenscrafters in Uptown Pearlridge, you lost a customer on your opening day. Instead of trusting and welcoming your customers, you treated them to inconsistent policy and worried more about the aesthetics of your store. Unfortunately, since I don’t know much about eyeglasses, I’ll probably have to go back to a Lenscrafters, but it’ll be another location.
Inspired by the ranting of the Angry Asian Girl.
"Nerds Night Out" at Club 939??
Talking with my coworkers here and there, the topic of Club 939 inevitably comes up. Several of them want to check it out but don’t for various reasons. While I try to describe the upscale clientele of “Hawaii’s Hottest Gentlemen’s Club,” that just doesn’t do the trick.
We’re all in the tech field which, by default, makes us nerds, but then again some of these nerds got disposable income (serious cash!). Would a “Nerds Night Out” at Club 939 entice these folks to check out the club? Hmmm, probably not, and a nerd’s night will probably scare away the regulars.
Oh well, I guess not… besides, I doubt the nerds could handle the heat (NSFW).

More Nike+iPod
iLounge, the site of All things iPod, iTunes, and beyond, has another look at the Nike+iPod Sports Kit and how it works. There are great screenshots of the Nano interface to customize your running stats and pictures of the nikeplus website that tracks your running stats and can compare them against a global audience.
In our short amount of initial First Looks testing, we’re highly impressed by what Apple and Nike have accomplished with the Nike+iPod Sport Kit – this is an amazingly well-assembled, turnkey personal exercise tracking solution…
My Google AdSense Update
In February 2006, I started playing around with Google AdSense, their advertising program. In April, I made $1.08. Since then I’ve quintupled my profits!! I made about $5 during May and June.
Another $394 before I can get a complete Nike+iPod running set.

Word of the Day: Gnosis
Gnosis – knowledge of spiritual mysteries.
Example. How to do well in work’s annual evaluation process is somewhat confusing. Gnosis is required to understand how this works.
Pictures of Nike+iPod
Unfortunately, these are not my pictures but here are some great shots of the just released Nike+iPod Sports Kit. I like the picture that compares the size of the gear to a quarter – very small.
I like the pictured Shox running shoes. I’d run in these, but then again, I’d run in pink shoes too. 😉
I wonder how much that female runner got for being the “face” of the Nike+iPod Sports Kit? She’s got to be rolling in the dough!
I need me a Nano!! And new Nike+ running shoes!!! And a Nike+iPod Sports Kit!!! And $400!!!!
Dell is Cool Cuz They Got a Blog!
Computer maker Dell has just reached ubercool status with their introduction of their own blog called One2One. This thing is just awesome! I mean where else can techie cognoscenti talk about riveting subject matter like this:
our mainstream 2U server utilized a 330-watt power supply. Just four years later, power requirements for a similar server more than doubled to 700 watts…
Back to the 2U example, the latest Dell 2U, the PowerEdge 2950 with the Intel 5100 series processor, delivers more than double the overall performance but requires 25% less power at maximum load…
A subtle example in this generation of Dell servers is the use of TCP/IP Offload Engines (TOE) in our embedded Ethernet network adaptors…
Wow! I’m so in love with this blog I think I’ll have to make this my home page and definitely add its RSS feed. 😉
Seriously, this is a good attempt, but I think they need a different batch of authors to add some color to their content. A little more personality would be good and how about some variation in the dress code? Does majority of Dell workers wear a blue shirt? That support guy’s aloha shirt is a welcome change of pace. How about showing some employee’s mad kicks that match his Dell box? I’d go back for that.
Get Ready for the Nike+iPod Launch
Get ready for tomorrow’s unleashing of the Nike+iPod system for running. The Sports Kit and Nike+ shoes and clothing are available for presale. Select Niketowns are planning release parties (nothing planned for Hawaii though). CNBC already has an inside peek using the Sports Kit available on YouTube. Here’s the clip.
Update: Niketown Hawaii isn’t having a release party but they are having a running club clinic dedicated to learn more about Nike+. Wednesday, July 19, 6:00pm.
