Socal Severe Weather Warnings
Uh oh, according to The Weather Channel iApp, there are two severe weather warnings for Socal on Sunday. High winds, cold weather, and possibility of snow (at high altitude)!
In iPhone and the Cloud I Trust
For an upcoming trip, I won’t have access to a computer which is a rarity. Instead, I’ll be relying on my iPhone with data stored in “the cloud.” The AT&T 3G network will be my access to the cloud.
I’ll be using the iPhone’s GPS along with Google Maps for directions. I hope to be blogging while on travel and will be using the WordPress iPhone app for that. I might also integrate my Twitter account with Pulpconnection via Twitter Tools so any tweet becomes a blog entry. Unfortunately, blogged pictures will be taken with the iPhone camera which ain’t the greatest. Better pictures will have to wait until later.
I haven’t completely tricked out my iPhone with geo/location or travel apps, but I have added some useful ones like this Disney park guide. Anyone have any recommendations for useful travel iPhone apps?
Observation: Twitter > RSS
Now that I’ve been using Twitter for some time, I’ve noticed a change in the way I learn about new things on the web. I’m a believer and proponent of RSS feeds for some time, calling this technology a “game changer.”
But now, I find myself using my RSS reader less and less. I still do check my feeds for any updates, but it’s second behind Twitter. I’m more apt to follow links published by Twitter users even though the actual URL is obscured by a URL shortener like tinyurl. Why is that?
Maybe it’s because I share similar interests with those that I follow on Twitter so any links they provide are more to my liking? Also, I think Twitter users serve as a kindof filter for noise on the Net so that anything that they promote is more worthwhile than an RSS feed of a blog post with only a catchy title.
I’m not saying that I’ll abadon my RSS feeds anytime soon, but Twitter has supplanted RSS as my first source of interesting information.
Kokua at Windward Mall
Had a good Friday at Windward Mall with two instances of kokua. Thanks to the Starbucks barrista for the ice cold half and half and preshaking my drink.
And thanks (surprisingly) to Champs Sports for letting me get my Bright Cactus even cheaper!
Supporting “Perpetuating Our Traditions”
The 57th Cherry Blossom Festival is themed “Perpetuating Our Traditions,” and we are now supporters, buying a shirt and program guide.
We’re rooting for Tanya Masunaga to make the Cherry Blossom court.
Help with Twitter: Multiple Accounts
After twuating a bunch of Twitter names, I now have a problem of managing these various accounts. Most of these twuats aren’t frivolous. Some are experimental to see what local businesses can do with Twitter. Some are to introduce the power of social networking, and some are simply to protect a business’s twats from twuating.
So is there an easy way to monitor these various accounts for any possible conversations? Currently, I log into each account via the web to see if there are any @replies (direct messages work fine since they’re emailed). On the iPhone, Tweetie makes it convenient to quickly switch to different accounts, but I still need to manually make the switch.
It would be so much easier if the timelines of the various Twitter accounts could be aggregated into one “master” account. Logging into that one master account, I’d see the tweets and replies of that account but also all the @replies for all my other “sub” accounts. But that’s just one implementation. I’m sure there are others.
Any ideas?
That’s Some Tough Soccer Defense!
Did you catch the Hawaii State Championship soccer matchup between Mililani and Iolani? There was some tough defense played like this…
SDV Fail (Sorta)
My recently installed SDV tuning adapter failed me tonight during UH’s win over Fresno State in men’s hoops. The cable signal just stopped, and I wasn’t receiving all the stations. Weirdly enough, the freebie HD channels were there (1003, 1006, 1007, etc) but nothing else. After being on hold with Oceanic for a long time, the rep told me to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
That did the trick. Didn’t have to power cycle the actual unit. Pretty random and strange “outage” that only affected some stations. At least the Rainbows won though I missed most of the game.
Sharing Big Files with MobileMe
How timely! Apple’s MobileMe got a feature upgrade allowing users to easily share big files with others. After uploading a file to your MobileMe iDisk, you can share it and get an accessible URL for the file. You can even assign a password and expire the shared file for added protection.
I needed to send a 20-MB PDF file to someone but email wouldn’t allow it. So instead, I shared the file using MobileMe and sent the user the public link. Cool!
