While out doing some damage during this weekend’s Friends and Family bonanza, saw some interesting things at Ala Moana.
LeSportsac has an interesting design going on with some of their bags. I think this series is called Tokidoki and reminds me of Japanese cartoons.

Caught the very tail end of the Ala Moana Holiday show, The Christmas Gift of Aloha, and it snowed on the center stage. Pretty neat.
Just noticed that Pulpconnection’s RSS subscription count spiked today. Usually Feedburner reports 8 to 10 subscriptions, but today I see a spike of 15 subscriptions.
Part of the reason why I started using Feedburner was to track the number of RSS subscriptions that Pulpconnection was getting. Just more statistics collecting than anything else but still interesting nonetheless.
Not sure why the spike but thanks!

Thanks to a busy week, the Countdown to Ten Thousand is almost done. Fueled by interest in Kim Coco Iwamoto and coverage of Dancing with the Stars (especially the Hottest Dancing Star), site visits spiked dramatically. Here are the stats as of 11/19/06.

I keep saying I’m not a political person, but with previous posts about Linda Lingle and Kim Coco Iwamoto, I begin to wonder. Now, I have a story about Honolulu City Councilmember, Charles K. Djou. I’ve seen Charles on the news here and there, and his political stock seems to be on the rise. But even with his bright career, Charles is still a normal guy.
Yes, he takes his family to lunch at the Royal Garden restaurant in the Ala Moana Hotel. He takes his kids to check out the fish in the fish tanks. And the biggest reason why Charles is a normal guy – he wears Locals rubber slippers!
Sunday was unreal hot. I mean unreal hot. Luckily Tats shaved ice was in the neighborhood at the right time. For those of you who don’t know about Tats, this is a mobile shaved ice stand built into a real colorful van (sorry, no pictures of the van). Tats is mainly on the Windward side, most of the time in Kaneohe, but when there’s a baseball tournament in Kailua, Tats is usually there.

The shave ice is real fine so it’s sooo good, especially during Sunday’s heat. Here’s my vanilla, lemon lime, li hing mui combo.
Thanks to the info provided by enginerd Mr. Kanno, I signed up with Dreamhost, a web hosting company. Even with the Level 1 Crazy Domain Insane plan, you get a lot! Main thing I was looking for was WordPress support, especially a “one click” install for WP.
With Dreamhost, I can have unlimited domains so if anyone wants to experiment with something then let me know. For example, you could make a site to show off your rad cookie designs, or make a site for your church, or even host the site for Hawaii’s Hottest Gentlemen’s Club.
Whew, looks like our TV is okay after all. After a week’s worth of taped shows, we had to start watching so we turned on the tele. After 10 minutes of listening to snap, crackle, and pop, the noises went away and things seem to be back to normal.
Although I did learn a few things about new HDTV sets in the meantime. Probably would go for a 40-50″ plasma or LCD. Wanted something thinner than a rear projection. 1080p is the highest res, but not much content seems available at that res (not HDTV broadcasts, only Blue-ray or HD DVD stuff that I don’t have). So 720p seems good enough. Two HDMI ports sounds better just in case. Still trying to understand the pixel count of 720i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p…Amazon has the Panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma as a best seller and it sounds good for the price though the price in Hawaii is about $500 more. Samsungs seem okay but reviews complain about the colors. Sony makes good stuff but very expensive.
But oh well, no HDTV for now. But better start saving when we’re legally forced to go to HDTV in early 2009 (less than 3 years away)!

Yet more problems with my AV/home entertainment gear. My digital camcorder wasn’t behaving, and now my TV is acting up. It’s making a hissing noise with an occasional popping/cracking/sparking noise. Can’t quite describe it but it doesn’t sound good. This Mitsubishi picture tube TV has been around for 14 years so maybe it’s time is up?
Cosmopolitan has finished their 2006 Man Hunt for the sexiest, hottest single guys throughout the US. Again, I boycott the selection for Hawaii.
In 2005, Jamie Keli’i Kaku Tamashiro was named top bachelor for Hawaii. This year, Ryan Smith, a 33-year old chiropractor, was given the man candy honor. About Mr. Smith:

Ah heck, who am I kidding? Stop blogging?! Ha! What a crock that is. So here’s my earthquake and blackout story…
Quake woke me up. Thought it was all over and went to watch TV. Saw 5 seconds of some football game then all the stations went out. A few seconds later, the power went and didn’t return until after midnight.
For lunch, family came over (and ignored all the warning to stay off the roads). Managed to find an open Subway and got sodas and chips from Safeway. During a power outage, all diets go out the window and non-perisable junk food is the way to go. Nacho cheese, Twinkies, chips, and other goodies won’t spoil so are ideal.
For entertainment, a bucketful of Potato Heads does the trick. No electricity needed!
Around 4:30pm, it was already getting dark. We headed to the in-laws who had a gas stove and was cooking up dinner for others in their neighborhood. Had hot rice, BBQ ribs and chicken, all by candlelight.

Went home around 9pm and saw lights on the roads and in homes. But as we drove up our street, the street lights weren’t on. The block below had power, but not further up. Here’s a shot from our yard.
Had to use our emergency kit of a portable radio, candles, and flashlight to make it through the night.
Power went on sometime around midnight. Food in our refrigerator was there about 17 hours without power. Still good (I hope)!

A very powerful return of Battlestar Galactica. So much has happened as the story line continues one year from the end of the previous season. Everyone’s minds, emotions, morals, and beliefs are in chaos. This will be a great season.
