Nuc Med Relief Via iPhone

How do you make an infant lie still for 90 minutes while a GI test is being done using a radioactive isotope? You better have an iPhone 3G handy, that’s how.

To see how things were working on the inside, this GI test was done but badly described to us. Instead of lying down, taking a picture then go play and repeat, it was lie down for 90 minutes straight, don’t leave the table. For an infant who just woke up, lying down doing nothing for one and a half hours is crazy.

We brought DVDs and a portable player, but there was no interest. Holding on to toys provided little comfort. Then I pulled out my iPhone 3G with a segment of Sesame Street on it. Instant silence and contentment as he watched Feist sing her adapted hit, 1234.

Elmo provided some relief as well. But when replays of this Sesame Street segment started losing its appeal, a jump over to YouTube brought in more distracting material. Norah Jones and Elmo singing Don’t Know Why, Debbie Harry and Kermit singing Rainbow Connection, and Andrea Bocelli singing Elmo to sleep.

90 minutes and a drained iPhone battery later, relived parents say thanks Apple and Sesame Street!

iPod Earbud Cords Are a Safe Length

I never knew why earphone and earbud cord lengths are the way they are. Now I know. I go for walks listening to my iPod, and one time, I was in a rush and and my iPod slipped out of my hands as I was turning it on.

Fortunately, I already had the earbuds in place . As the iPod fell towards the ground, I saw the earbud cord unravel and act as a safety line keeping my iPod from crashing to the ground. Whew!

So I’d say the iPod earbud cords are a safe length.

Nike, Homophobia, and Hyperdunks

Who would have thought that posterizing an opposing player on the basketball court would be viewed as homophobic? Enough people to force Nike to pull its recent advertisements for its new Hyperdunk shoes.

These ads depict a baller skying through the air assumedly about to throw down a monster dunk. But these ad showcase the Hyperdunks and a variety of crotches to the face. Like this…

What do I think about these ads? I wish I could personally tell you what dunking over (and having my groin crashing into) an opponent feels like, but alas I am earthbound no matter the kicks. I say the ads are fine in the context of a basketball game. Otherwise Vince Carter could be construed as offending the gay community with this dunk.

Now, that ain’t right!

So what are these stories dominating the sales charts? They are books in the Young Adult category that talk about the interaction of a 17-year old girl, Bella, and a high school senior, Edward Cullen, who happens to be a vampire. Sounds familiar Buffy and Angel fans? No matter! There must be something right about these books since the sales don’t lie.

I just might have to read one of these… Whoa, 700+ pages?!

Beautiful… at a Price

Stopped by Kicks HI this weekend to check out their new releases. Of interest weren’t kicks, but a clothing collaboration with Hurley. Kicks HI and Hurley got together and made these board shorts and slippers.



They look great! The shorts have a lot of detail in them even though they’re mainly black. The slippers also feature a Nike Free sole for a comfy ride. Only thing though, this beauty ain’t cheap. Both cost about $60 each. Had to pass… for now.

Done Reading Groundswell

Finished reading Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies. Excellent book about tapping social networks (like Facebook, YouTube) and tools (blogs, wikis, etc) and using them to your business’ advantage. Many real world examples included, and the book concludes with chapters about building a groundswell movement within your company (“it’s about relationships, not technology“) and the future of the groundswell.

A great deal for the wealth of information provided.

Up next on the reading list is Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide: Business thinking and strategies behind successful Web 2.0 implementations.

Magnum P.I. on Dancing with the Stars?

Is a hunky (though now older) private investigator going to don the dancing shoes of Dancing with the Stars? Rumor has it that Tom Selleck will be part of the upcoming season starting in late September. Convinced by his 3 Men and a Baby co-star and former DWTS contestant, Steve Guttenberg, Thomas Magnum might roar onto the DWTS set in his classic red Ferrari.

Remember the days (but in English)?

Also possible dancing stars this season are ‘N Sync’s Lance Bass, Toni Braxton, Kim Kardashian and her mom.
