Admiration for Apple
Fortune Magazine announced their 2007 list of America’s Most Admired Companies, and the Top 20 has some personal notables. General Electric tops the list this year. Even with a diluted experience, Starbucks comes in at number 2 followed by Toyota at number 3. Apple and Google come in at the seventh and eighth spots. Microsoft is number 12. Costco is at 18 and Pepsi and Wal-Mart tied for the 19/20 spot.
I thought Google treated its employees well but the search engine giant came in at number 3 for People Management, beat out by FedEx (#1) and Procter & Gamble (#2).
In the field of Innovation, Apple led the way (and this is before the release of the iPhone!). Google was second, Nike in fifth place, and Starbucks rounding out the top 10.
Not surprisingly, Hawaii had no companies in the Most Admired List with Alexander & Baldwin getting a Contender status. California had top honors followed by New York and Texas. Other states with zero companies on the list are Alaska, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Hey aren’t most of these states members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC)??
Blogger Comment Feeds Still Busted
Blogger’s recent problem with non-updating comment feeds is still there, but there’s a small hack that is better than nothing.
This ‘?start-index=2’ hack also works for modified comment feeds from Hackosphere and Beautiful Beta.

Cliff Claven is a Dancing Star?
The new season of Dancing with the Stars hasn’t begun yet and already there’s some news. Vincent “Big Pussy” Pastore dropped out after enduring one week of the physical demands of dancing. In his spot, your favorite Cheers mailman, Cliff Claven, actor John Ratzenberger is joining the dancing cast.
Ratzenberger is uh, an accomplished actor (meaning he’s old at 59). Pastore is 60. Jerry Springer was 63 when he was on the show. John O’Hurley was in his early 50’s when he won.
I think this year’s show is geared for a female to win instead of having a guy take home the trophy again(O’Hurley) and again(Drew Lachey) and again(Emmitt Smith).

Restaurants’ Secret Menus

Here’s a compiled list of secret menus at other restaurants.
Can the Tabasco Man finish off a 100×100 at In-N-Out?
Faltering iPod?
My first generation iPod Shuffle that I got free for buying a bunch of Dockers pants is giving me more and more problems. First, it would stop playing for no apparent reason. The other day, after doing a sync, only 2 songs were available even though iTunes showed 16 songs.
I tried another sync and iTunes said the media was uninitialized, and there were no songs on the iPod. I then downloaded the iPod shuffle Reset Utility from Apple and gave that a shot. This utility wipes out a Shuffle, returning it to clean state with the latest firmware.
At first, the tool did not recognize my Shuffle. Scary. I waited a few minutes and tried again. This time, it saw my Shuffle and successfully reset it. I transfered songs to my reset Shuffle, and everything seems to be working okay so far.
Any other first gen Shuffle users having issues with their iPods? Is it time for an upgrade?
What Britney Spears Can Teach About Blogging
Kumiko’s Cash Quest has a great post on the 6 Lessons Britney Spears Can Teach You About Blogging. And since Britney’s blowin’ up in the news and in the blogosphere, I figured why not?
The short list (but the explanations are great so read the entire post):
- Be bold. Be unique. Be different.
- Look after your baby
- Keep good relationships
- Be careful who you associate with
- Keep your site looking good
- Always wear underwear (pulpy underpants anyone?)

ABC Television News
Some changes are coming up for ABC television shows.
On Grey’s Anatomy, there’s a spin-off planned starring Kate Walsh who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery. I guess she’s going to be departing Grey’s soon enough. Not sure if she has enough star power to command her own show, but what do I know?
The new season of Dancing with the Stars is gearing up and just about all the dancers are set. This season we’ll see:
- Heather Mills, former wife of Paul McCartney and who has an artificial leg
- Apolo Anto Ohno, Olympian ice skater
- Laila Ali, boxing daughter of Muhammad Ali
- Clyde Drexler, the NBA’s Glide
- Vincent “Big Pussy” Pastore from the Sopranos
- Billy Ray Cyrus, Achy Breaky Heart
- Joey Fatone from ‘N Sync
- Shandi Finnessey, Miss USA 2004
- Leeza Gibbons, former host of Entertainment Tonight
- Paulina Porizkova, model and former SI swimsuit covergirl
- Ian Ziering from Beverly Hills, 90210
What?! No Kalai Miller? 🙁
And if you got HDTV, Dancing with the Stars is broadcast in 720p.

Blogger Comment Feeds Not Working
Something weird happened to some RSS feeds for comments on Blogger blogs. Old comments are now stuck as the most recent comments. Blogger knows about it but hasn’t been able to resolve the problem yet.
Until then, the “Recently Said” sidebar section will continue to show old comments and not the latest. Sorry.

Advice from a 12-Year Old: How to Get Traffic to Your Blog
I can’t believe this guy is only twelve years old, but he has some sage advice about increasing the amount of traffic to your web site or blog. I’ve read similar things elsewhere, but not in the words of a pre-teen. Dang!
His site Techzi.net is down right now. Must be from the readers wanting to see what else this 12-year old has to say.
I wonder if he talks about having pictures of scantily clad dancers and spoilers for Lost as surefire ways of increasing traffic?
