I gotta hand it to Adidas and the Baylor men’s basketball team. Come Tournament time, both rev it up. Gold and green become an ultra bright neon yellow. Attention getters for both the basketball program and the Adidas brand.

This year though, Adidas went lighter, not just in color hue but in material opacity. Supposedly, Baylor’s unis for this March Madness run is sheer. It’s difficult to tell how sheer from pictures, but if you have the luxury of being up close and personal (or get a tight zoom via HDTV), you may notice some previously unnoticed bulges and bodily parts.
But really, never mind the transparency of the uniforms. How does this affect the kicks world? Well, how about making sheer kicks. Strong enough and supportive enough but yet have some kind of see-through aspect. You’ve seen the explosive growth of colorfully designed socks, right? Why not take that to the next level, by showcasing these socks through your shoes. A Nike sock with a huge swoosh on your foot that peeks through your shoe? The sock can become another canvas to incorporate in kicks design. Maybe Nike Flyknit technology is headed that way.
All I know is that I’d prefer sheer kicks compared to sheer uniforms.
You know that line from the Hunger Games, “May the odds be ever in your favor.” Believe it.
Case in point. The Air Jordan 3 Retro “Infrared 23” launched on March 8, 2014. As expected, this well-hyped shoe sold out in no time. Although sites showed inventory, trying to add a pair to your cart was impossible. So that was that…or so I thought.
Tuesday, March 18, 2014. A day off to do errands including a trip to Ala Moana. On my way out, I stop by Champs Sports downstairs. Yes, that revitalized spot where shoes aren’t displayed against a wall (I’m still getting used to that). But there it was, a display of the Infrared. I inquired and was told their shipment finally arrived that morning. Size 10? Last pair. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Aw man, this is not how you want to see Air Jordans perform.
But getting an apology from His Airness is pretty cool.
After hearing about the future Starbucks kiosk at Ala Moana near Centre Court, I had to take a peek. This is the view from above on the third floor.

The kiosk is on the main floor of Ala Moana, technically level two. It’s not exactly where Aroma Caffe was, more towards Nordstrom, but it is huge for a “kiosk.” I’m guessing there will be outdoor seating but coverage from the sunlight would be needed. There may be some seating under the roofed area but can’t really tell yet as construction is on-going. And that nice black, shiny roof will be covered in bird poop soon enough.
I gotta say though, I love how Starbucks goes head-to-head with other coffee purveyors. Diagonally above this spot is the longtime Honolulu Coffee Company kiosk. If you’re seated in their outdoor seats, you have a clear view of this Starbucks. Coffee competition will get fierce starting on opening day of March 27.
If you have any pics of the progress, be sure to tweet them out using the hashtag #sbux327.
Fellow caffeine addict, Yoda808, spotted this sign at the Macy’s Starbucks location in Ala Moana (yes, that crowded one). A new Starbucks kiosk opening on March 27.
There was mention of another Starbucks in Ala Moana near centre court, but if you looked in the area, you saw no visible signs of its arrival. There was the construction of Aloha Gelato that I thought could be a Starbucks, but it actually was Aloha Gelato.
So in 10 days, a new Starbucks will have risen. Keep an eye out!
So there’s a pig hanging around the workplace. Yes, a real pig of the animal variety. She’s small (for now) and named Mele which you have to pronounce as Mayyyyleeeeeeeee.
I guess it makes sense to make this dash easy. The chance to win a year’s of Starbucks will probably draw in many contestants.
