What’s Up with That, ASB Hawaii?!?!
I try not to watch television commercials while using my Tivo. But this recent commercial from American Savings Bank caught my eye (for the wrong reasons).
Ummm, no, ASB Hawaii. Just no.

Apple went gold so naturally, what must Nike do? Follow the playbook and go gold as well! The Nike+ FuelBand SE already borrows from several Apple influences so the newest FuelBand color of “Rose Gold” shouldn’t be surprising.
Available on November 21 for $169, this is destined for the informed you who demands tech and style.
Check out the retro University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football uniforms making an appearance this weekend.
I’m not sure if this is a limited item, but it’s a fun throwback to own and wear regardless of the football team’s current fortunes. Makes a special gift for Rainbow fans new and old.
Update: These vintage jerseys are now available at the Rainbowtique stores for $75. Too costly? Then the vintage hat for $27 could be a more affordable option.
Let’s kick off Pulpconnection’s Holiday Gift Guide for 2013 with Hawaiian style. My first pulpy recommendation for an awesome holiday gift is a visit to any of the Hawaiian Islands. No, I won’t be paying for this visit, but if you do make it to this part of the Pacific, here are just a few activities you can do on the various islands.
Interested in other activities while on Hawaii? Let Zerve guide your way!
This morning on Hammer’d, Gregg impersonates a Chinese/Laotian/Micronesian/Samoan business owner specializing in alternative diary. Ever had yogurt made from the teats of a llama?

This prank call segment has some potential though I do feel bad for those getting punked aka hammer’d. One of these days, the person getting hammer’d won’t be able to take a joke and is bound to go off.
Wow, listen to Lorde’s rendition of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. This is the song made popular by Tears for Fears?!

Makes the movie and accompanying soundtrack more intriguing. The soundtrack has some notable artists on it too.
It’s been so long
I’ve found you yet it seems like yesterday
Seasons change
Of course you recognize the lyrics from one of the best Exposé songs. The last time I referenced this song was back in October 2012 when Costco discontinued its pumpkin streusel muffins because, well, seasons changed. But for the time being, these seasonal muffins are now available at Costcos in Hawaii. Not sure if the supply is ramping up or dwindling so if you loved these last year, it’s best you get some now. Then crank up the Exposé.

I want you
I want to feel you by my side
I need you
Don’t you know I need you baby

It never hurts to have a bootable disk/USB flash drive to repair a Mac or install OS X. It’s real easy to do using Lion DiskMaker. This app will prep a 8-GB (or bigger) flash drive with everything it needs to install OS X 10.9 Mavericks. You can also build disks that contain OS X 10.7 or 10.8 if Mavericks isn’t your thing.
Be sure to read the instructions so that you have all the needed files in the right locations. One more note – Lion DiskMaker takes awhile to copy all the files so be patient.
Once done, you can boot a Mac with this flash drive by holding down the Option key at startup.
Have you noticed that according to their RDS (radio data system) signal, KRTR 96.3FM has been playing Lauryn Hill exclusively for the past few days? Specifically, her song Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.
It’s a good song, but all day and all night? Well, not exactly. Seems like KRTR is making some upgrades and until done, this song ID is stuck on your radio and mine. Could be worse, KRTR could have been playing a Weird Al song. Anyways, here’s the miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Whoa, what happened on Sunday, November 3, 2013 with the sudden attention to this old post about Abercrombie and Fitch shopping bags? The weekends are pretty mellow around here, but this post and its picture surely got someone’s attention.
Oh hey, this reminds me. Did I ever mention that some of Pulpconnection’s previous posts about Abercrombie & Fitch were used in a college paper about cultural norms? I couldn’t decipher the parts about semiotics and autoethnography.
In September, Pier 1 Imports at Ward announced their moving sale. In mid-October the location closed down. But on November 1, Pier 1 at Ward reopened its doors just down the block. The new Pier 1 is still in the Ward Village Shops and shares the same building as T.J. Maxx and soon, the relocated Nordstrom Rack.

This is definitely a potent combination of fashion and furniture at Ward. Additionally, this new Pier 1 location is modeled after their new store concept:
The new store design is a natural evolution of the Pier 1 Imports experience that utilizes a new interior finish-out, including natural-colored floor tiles, rustic ceiling elements, enhanced store lighting and lit shelving units lining the walls, all of which help customers visualize the end-use of the products within their own home. The new look is complemented by the use of “open stock†merchandising, designed to enhance the shopping environment by giving customers the opportunity to see, feel and interact with the product. The exterior design features a signature bamboo door with rustic metal door handles that will mark the entrance to Pier 1 Imports’ unique shopping experience. The features of the new store will allow easier navigation, all while maintaining the “treasure hunt†feel and continuing to make Pier 1 Imports a great place for discovery and spending time browsing.
Over the years, the original Ward Pier 1 location has been eclipsed by its other stores. The Pearl City store has its massive inventory while the smaller Kailua store felt fresher. But now, with its new look and new design concept, the Ward location is the face of Pier 1 in the islands.
Probably on the tail end of this fad, but if you’re looking for all kinds of kendama, look to Amazon. There’s a variety of colors and styles to make your toy of hand-eye coordination stand out.
Ophthalmologists like the kendama with the eyeball. Or maybe it’s their patients that get a kick out of playing with this while in the waiting room.
