Will Dwain Williams Determine the Future of Coach Nash?
UH men’s basketball coach, Bob Nash, isn’t have a successful WAC season, and the future of his coaching career with the Rainbows is in question. Despite the team’s win-loss record, I wonder if guard Dwain Williams will determine Bob Nash’s future as Head Coach.
Williams is a long range threat hitting the most three point field goals on the team despite missing seven games, and his presence is welcomed in the current two-guard rotation. So why would Coach Nash indefinitely suspend Williams? Because Dwain Williams the person is more important than Dwain Williams the basketball player, and Coach Nash understands this fact of life.
Even though Williams is a much needed member of the team whose play could result in more UH victories, Coach Nash has to ensure that his student-athletes are ultimately prepared for life off the court. Besides missing practice while attending his cousin’s funeral, Dwain also missed classes. Upon returning to the UH Manoa campus, skipping a class is not the way to go. Coach Nash had no choice but to reprimand Dwain so he could re-evaluate his priorities and start making more mature decisions.
So although Dwain’s indefinite suspension will hurt, I think Coach Nash’s handling of this situation is admirable and worthy of an extended stay.
Inventively Protecting Your Ride
So maybe you got a distinctive car in Hawaii or maybe you just love your ride pimped out with pink headlights, and you want to protect it. Check out this inventive way of stopping dings and dents in the parking lot.
Now there’s some ingenuity and smarts at play! Cost of this? $1.52 for a bungee cord and $7 for a swimming noodle
on Amazon.
Then there are those who say they’d purposely go after cars decked out like this. 😉
The Shakalicious LOST Premiere
No, I didn’t go to the Waikiki premiere showing of the final season of LOST. I followed along online and watched the events unfold. There were a ton of great pictures, many of them taken by local fans. My favorite pics are of the LOST actors doing the Hawaii-unique shaka. Here are a few…
Thanks to Ricky Li and Metromix for these great photos! And thanks to ABC for filming this great series in Hawaii and thanks to the LOST actors for being part of our community.
Help Humanity. Bid for Evangeline Lilly
LOST actress and humanitarian, Evangeline Lilly, is putting herself up for auction to raise funds to support the GO Campaign. Winning bidders will have lunch with Evangeline in Hawaii, Los Angeles, or Canada (there are three auctions, one for each locale).
The auctions end on February 4, 2010 and the leading bids are around $2500. Go to http://tiny.cc/evangeline for more info.
If these luncheon auctions are price prohibitive, Evangeline is also raising funds with her own intimate collections line to support Task Brazil which provides for street children of Brazil. Costs for these auctioned items start at $10.
Flipped Off
The other day on a commute home, a little white Mazda Miata went zipping by on the H3. The driver was obviously in a rush, changing lanes to get around slow moving traffic. He was well going over 70 mph since he easily zoomed by me (naturally driving the legal speed limit).
A few minutes later I see this white “sheet” flying in the air. The object tumbled airborne before heading down to the road. It was the hood of the white Miata! Fortunately, it landed in between the two lanes of on-coming traffic. After veering around the hood, I see the Miata pulled to the side of the road, driver with his head in his hands.
But the story doesn’t end there. After getting off the H3, I see this in my side mirror.
Now This is Blasphemy!
I thought a Dell Mini 10v running OS X was blasphemy, but no. This is the definition of blasphemy!
The cost of my favorite Royal Mills/Ito En canned ice coffee drinks have gone up yet again. Regular price at Don Quijote is now $1 a can, a single can! On sale, one can goes for $0.77. Back in two thousand and late aka 2007, these same drinks went for $0.55 a can. In 2008, they were $0.65 a can.
Reading The View from Space
Checking out a new local kine blog called The View from Space (… the one between my ears). Give it a read; yeah only three posts so far but it’s a good start.
Update: Fear not if the URL didn’t work for you since it’s been changed to http://www.theviewfromspace.net/
Spotted at Don Quijote
No, I didn’t spot a Farmers Insurance Hawaii advertisement at the Kailua Don Quijote. Instead, I saw some of their strange items for sale. Things like this…
