Looking at NAS But…
The cost of storage is astronomical right now! I wasn’t really paying attention to the demands of AI on memory and storage, but I am now since hard disks are now cost prohibitive.
I was surprised that 4-bay NAS devices are somewhat affordable (and full featured). So I was looking at Synology or Ugreen with a slight nod to the more mature Synology. But… then I looked up 12-TB drives and stopped.
At Best Buy, one 12-TB WD – Red Plus internal drive costs about $475, and I would need 2-3 of them to even begin with. That $600 NAS device would now be $3000 equipped with three RAID drives.
Not sure if waiting will help with prices either.

The part about a $600 NAS becoming a $3000 build once you add three drives really puts storage pricing into perspective. It’s like realizing the accessory costs can overshadow the main setup—kind of how a room’s energy can be thrown off by one misplaced mirror. Maybe the same careful planning that goes into a feng shui bedroom would help, but I’m not sure the wallet can wait.
