Hey There Hurley!

Let’s get right to it, and let the picture speak for itself.

Yup, after running across Jorge Garcia (Hurley on LOST) a few weeks back at Safeway and not having my camera, I learned my lesson. So who do I see picking up dinner in Kailua? None other than Jorge/Hurley himself.

A very cool guy who didn’t mind taking a picture. In fact, since I was having some difficulty holding the camera and my daughter, Jorge took the picture since his hands were free. In fact, he was willing to retake the shot if the first one didn’t come out. Cool dude!

So that makes three LOST actors I’ve met while just going around town. There was Sawyer in Hawaii Kai, then got dissed by Desmond, and now here’s Hurley.

Oh yeah, can’t forget about the filming of LOST at Club 939.

New Dancing Stars Announced

The new set of Dancing with the Stars stars has officially been announced, and there’s an eclectic mix.

  • Melanie Brown (aka Scary Spice). Isn’t she having some deal with Eddie Murphy? Dancing with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
  • Sabrina Bryan. A Cheetah Girl partnering with newbie Mark Ballas.
  • Helio Castroneves. A Indy 500 champ doing laps with reigning champ Julianne Hough.
  • Mark Cuban. Not a rumor anymore and got a good match with Kym Johnson. The fan support of the NBA will help them.
  • Jennie Garth. The 90210 connection is in full effect. Dancing with Derek Hough, Julianne’s brother!
  • Josie Maran. A former SI swimsuit model paired with Alec Mazo.
  • Cameron Mathison. Soap star partnering with Edyta Sliwinska.
  • Floyd Mayweather. Boxing champ sparring with Karina Smirnoff
  • Wayne Newton. Repping the older generation with Cheryl Burke(?!). Sorry, Cheryl, you ain’t gonna win.
  • Marie Osmond. Yes of Donnie and Marie, but this time Donnie is hairy Jonathan Roberts.
  • Albert Reed. A 22-year old model posing with Anna Trebunskaya.
  • Jane Seymour. Dr. Quinn operates with Tony Dovolani.

Dancing begins September 24 with a slight change in format for the first week. The women go first then the next day, the men are up. Do the female dancing stars have a chance of winning this year?

Signs of Bad Things to Come?

Remember that movie The Seventh Sign starring Demi Moore? Unusual world events were occurring, possibly signifying the upcoming Apocalypse. Now I forget the specific signs the movie portrayed, but you have to wonder about some of the “strange” things that have been happening in and around Hawaii recently.

Natural force, Hurricane Flossie, came close to pummeling Hawaii. Our seas are now “boiling” with irate Kauai residents blocking the passage of the SuperFerry. And did you catch that lunar eclipse last night? How eerie!


Are these signs of bad things to come? Any other signs you’ve seen?

Carl English Sighting

The FIBA Americas tournament brought an unexpected surprise with the sighting of former UH basketball gunner, Carl English. English and the Canadian squad got pounded by Team USA 113 to 63, but now we all know English is still in the game.

Here’s a pic of English as LeBron goes for an uncontested shot.


Here’s English taking an off-balance jumper with STAT closing in fast. I didn’t see this shot attempt, but it looks like STAT’s about to swat it away.


Hmmm, no wonder Canada lost by 50.

Dancing with the Stars Rumor: Mark Cuban?

It’s still way early for the next run of Dancing with the Stars, but a fresh rumor is that super rich owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, will be one of the celebrity dancers. If he is on the show, I wonder if he’ll bring the same fiery passion he shows during the Mavs games. Can he get ejected from the competition for arguing scores?

Jane Seymour is also rumored to be joining Dancing with the Stars.

Slow Blogging Week

Is it me or has the past couple of weeks been slow on bloggable material? With this extra time and reminded by the Angry Asian Girl, I played around with a WordPress version of Pulpconnection.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but I like the Vertigo theme as a starting point. I was experimenting with the theme Subtle, but it has so many features and is complicated to edit for a WP newbie. Vertigo is pretty straightforward and therefore easy to modify.

We’ll see if I ever cut over Pulpconnection to a WordPress version…

Executive Chefs Ru(i)n the Show

The Restaurant Wars rematch on Top Chef gave Restaurant April and Quatre (formerly the Garage) a chance to fix their miscues. While both teams showed vast improvements, Quatre really had their act together becoming the victorious Bad News Bears.

For the team’s success, Quatre’s executive chef, Sara M, won her first Elimination Challenge. This meant that April’s executive chef was to blame for their loss. Sad to say but Tre packed his knives at the end of the show. He was my early pick to be this season’s Top Chef. 🙁

It was good to see former Chef contestants. Stephen from Season One is still Stephen. Joey and Sara made a short appearance but Hung forget about them already. I think Judge Padma has the best expression for bad tasting dishes. Looks like she’s in absolute pain when dishes aren’t at their finest. I wonder what these dishes would taste like for you or me. You think we could tell how good or how bad the food is?
