Motorola’s iRadio Music Service
Hmmm, could the Motorola-Apple partnership with the iTunes-enabled ROKR phone be on the rocks already? So the ROKR wasn’t wildly successful as originally hoped, but now Motorola’s next version of the ROKR, the E2, will not include iTunes. It’ll be serviced by Motorola’s own iRadio subscription music service, sorta satellite radio-ish.
You would think with a name like “iRadio,” iTunes or Apple would be involved somehow. Or perhaps, is there something else affecting this partnership? Something like an Apple cell phone (iPhone) or a broader-based iTunes multimedia service, especially with mistakes like this?

Mediocrity and Popularity in the Workplace
The Honolulu Advertiser has two interesting articles dealing with the workplace in their Monday Business section.
Popularity often key to success in career. People would rather work with likable coworkers even if they’re incompetent.
No matter how experienced or valuable someone is, if they’re mean to people, they’re pretty much useless.
Mediocrity rules many workplaces. Why do more at work if you’re not rewarded?
Employees go beyond mediocrity when they trust the organization, find their work meaningful and believe they are using and developing their talents.
I wonder if there’s any correlation between mediocre workplaces filled with popular (but useless) workers? Of course, our workplace is only filled with the best talent out there! 😉

New Year’s Fireworks
Fireworks on the Windward side was pretty tame last night. Of course, lots of smoke, but I’ve seen worse. Had a few nice aerial shows, but I think that Police helicopter circling around put a stop them.

How was the fireworks in your area? I wonder if kazuo fought the commercialism of New Years as well?
Marketing Shaq vs Kobe, Round 3a
Not quite a direct comparison, but oh well… Since we’re talking marketing, how about fan attendance for respective NBA teams, the Heat and the Lakers? Shaq vs Kobe, Round 3a.
Roughly a third of 81-game season has gone by with the Heat playing 31 games and the Lakers 29. Here are the attendance stats from ESPN.

If I were a fan, I’d rather see the Heat with their players (JWill, the Glove, Toine, Flash, Zo) rather than the Lakers (Odom, Smush Parker?!, Mihm, Brian Cook). So Round 3a, game attendance, goes to Shaquille. (Shaq 2, Kobe 1)
Round 1, Team Jersey Sales (Shaq)
Round 2, Kicks (Kobe)
Happy New… Just a sec! Hold on to 2005
If 2005 was a good year for you, good news! You can cherish it for a little while longer. The introduction of 2006 will be delayed by one second to compensate for changes in the Earth’s rotation. So the last minute of 2005 will have 61 seconds.
Rejoice! Okay, your extra second is up. Happy New Year!
Losing Local Radio Dee Jays
Was flipping through Midweek the Weekend edition and came across the Menage column. According to Melisa Uchida, local radio dee jays, Hawaiian Ryan, Kid Leo, and Sam the Man, are leaving Hawaii to take the morning slot for WIRED 96.5FM in Philadelphia. And Kid Leo’s current radio partner, Paul Ogata, is moving to California to try his hand in the entertainment biz.
Dang, lots of funny talent leaving the islands. I enjoyed listening to Sam and Taka during the drive home and felt that only Leo and Paul could come close to the humor of the Wake Up Crew.
Good luck to all.
New Mac/Intel Logo?

Three Ways to Double Website Traffic
Three suggestions to increase traffic to your website. Here’s the real short version:
- Use Technorati tags
- Use Feedburner
- Use Trackbacks
I’ve been playing around with Technorati tags but not sure what to make of Feedburner. I don’t quite understand what it’s supposed to do above and beyond RSS feeds. I don’t use Trackbacks (not sure if Blogger supports this?)
If this works, I can maybe get like 20 hits in a day!
