What’s Your Backup Plan asks Big Boi
This morning my Awaken-powered alarm clock started blaring Back Up Plan from Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty. This timely start of the day had me wondering about my backup plan for my data.
Here’s what my backup plan currently includes (of course, things change).
Mac OS X Time Machine. This built-in Mac OS feature has saved my bacon on occasion and even though my current Time Machine drive lost its mind temporarily, it’s rebuilding and backing up gigs of stuff.
Backblaze. Speaking of gigs of stuff, how long does it take to back up gigs of stuff online? I’m not sure, but I still got Backblaze blazing away. There’s about 200 gigs to go…Â Have you signed up?
VaultPress. This is my most recent addition to my backup plan. How do you keep your words (and everything else) on WordPress safe and protected? You store them in a vault, a VaultPress. Since I got a Golden Ticket, I figured I’d try this service in its startup stages.
So if Big Boi asks, my backup plan is Time Machine, Backblaze, and VaultPress!
The Son of Chico Dusty – Just Because
Big Boi’s latest release, Sir Lucious Left Foot, the Son of Chico Dusty is out, and you need to get it just because. How can you resist with a title like that?
272 iTunes fans have rated Sir Lucious Left Foot five out of five stars!
King James Tweets
LeBron James aka King James is now on Twitter as @kingjames. He already has almost 90,000 followers with only a single tweet! Here is the first tweet of King James.
Hello World, the Real King James is in the Building “Finally”. My Brother @oneandonlycp3 gas’d me up to jump on board so I’m here. Haaaa
A Most Delicious Tweetup at Farmers Hawaii
Being a social media giants, I don’t have to attend very many tweetups (that’s a joke people), but I couldn’t resist Farmers Hawaii hosting a tweetup focusing on Community Engagement on the Web. This was a most delicious event!
Amuse bouche by Liliha Bakery and superb pupus made by Chef Elmer from Poke Stop were sandwiched around a delectable panel of knowledgeable guests. Daniel Leuck of TechHui, Randy Ching of Civil Beat, John Tapper of Farmers Hawaii, and Dan Zelikman of Starrtech talked about their successes and struggles using social media and the web to engage their respective communities. Each panel member had a different perspective reflective of their user base, and it was interesting to hear the similarities and differences. Holding contests, featuring members, variable subscription rates, empowered and passionate community managers were mentioned as engagement tips with the only common tip being “work hard and keep working at it.”
Ooops, how can I forget to mention Ryan Ozawa as the moderating maitre d’? He kept the topical courses paced and moving along very well!
Thanks to Farmers Hawaii for a most delicious tweetup, and I can’t wait for the next one!
If you missed it, here are some pictures.
Looking into VaultPress
So I saw some blurb about VaultPress on my WordPress Dashboard but didn’t pay attention to it. Then over on Daring Fireball, I saw another mention of VaultPress so I decided to take a quick peek.
Essentially, VaultPress is a premium service to protect your (WordPress) blogs. It’ll backup all your WordPress work so if any bad juju happens, you won’t have to cry like missing a World Cup penalty kick. Sign-ups for early access to VaultPresss are now being taken, and if you’re lucky, you’ll soon get a Golden Ticket.
Radio Shack, Home of the iPhone
This is like a true transcript of my call to Radio Shack this morning.
Radio Shack: Hello, Radio Shack, home of the iPhone.
Me: Do you have any iPhones?
Radio Shack: Nope.
I asked a few more questions, but you get the drift.
30 Years of Apple Computers
Such memories looking at these Apple computers over the years.
What have I owned? Let’s see if I remember…
- Apple IIe
- Mac SE
- Mac IIsi (though I coveted the IIci)
- Power Mac 8500 (then upgraded with a G3 daughterboard processor)
- Power Mac G4
- Power Mac G5
- iMac Core 2 Extreme
and throw in a Newton MessagePad. 🙂

I Want to Smell Like Twilight!
Twilight’s Eclipse is soon, very soon, and there’s no better way to watch this movie than smelling like its namesake. What’s that scent of juicy berry, soft mimosa, apricot nectar, and warm woods? That’s you bathed in Bath and Body Works’ Twilight Woods!
While not an official Twilight product, you surely can’t deny the allusion to Stephenie Meyer’s creation. 😉
