Vote in Honolulu Weekly’s Best of Honolulu

Lookee, lookee, Honolulu Weekly has its annual readers’ poll asking for the Best of Honolulu. There are many subsections of the poll, but under the heading of “The Medium,” there are some pulpy topics like:

  • Best Twitterer
  • Best use of social media
  • Best local blog

Hmmmm, I wonder how’d I vote for these? For Best Twitterer, I have three choices: @ryankanno, @neenz, and @hawaii (they all influence me according to Klout). But I think my nod would have to go to @neenz for the sheer volume of useful and aloha-spirited tweets she publishes.

Best use of social media would have to go to KGMB9 News. Within the past year, this news station blitzed the social media landscape getting workers to blog and now tweet. The recorded and streaming news broadcasts are cool, and of course, you can’t overlook their interactive News at 5, getting input from the Twitterverse.

Best local blog… Um, of course, I’d have to push pulpconnection.net. That’d be a no brainer, but if I can’t vote for my own work then I have to go with the aptly named Hawaii Weblog. Ryan Ozawa has been blogging the Aloha State and Beyond forever, and his coverage of Hawaii-based issues is always excellent.

So Long Converse Says DWade

Dwyane Wade’s attempt to revitalize the Converse shoe brand is over. DWade is now a member of Team Jordan, wearing the Jumpman logo from now on.

So if you got some yet-to-be-released Wade 5 sneakers, you now have a collector’s item.

Does the shoe tongue say “Doubt Me”? Was Converse doubting DWade’s loyalty? Was DWade doubting Converse’s viability? What an appropriate way to end the DWade-Converse relationship.

Spoilers of Upcoming Glee

I hate to spoil your glee, but with the series start of Glee not until September, I couldn’t resist reading spoilers of upcoming Glee episodes. Sounds like there’ll be a musical performance of some sort in every show starting with a raunchy rendition of Push It followed by Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).

Me and the family have watched bits of the Glee pilot time and time again, not quite every day but several times a week! We’re giddy for Glee!

on sale at Amazon. iTunes followed with Jason Nevins presenting Ultra Weekend 5. Now the mainstream dance and trance DJ trifecta is complete with Amazon’s pre-release of Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Vegas. 2 CDs worth of tunes for $4!

Awww man, my Amazon affiliate account is still shut down. 🙁 Now that Governor Linda Lingle has vetoed bill HB1405, I hope Amazon reactivates its affiliate program for Hawaii soon.

About the Amazon Kindle and the Scare of iPods

I don’t have an Amazon Kindle but have heard good things about it. I’m old school with books and would rather have printed material for the most part. This Fast Company article about the Kindle is pretty interesting and worth a read.

The potential showdown with Apple’s iPod line is provoking and as a non-publisher, reading how traditional publishing works and how Amazon is changing the game is fascinating. Overall, a very well written article!

The Most Addicted to The Counter Burger Is…

The people have spoken, and the undisputed, most addicted fan of The Counter burgers is none other than Ryan Kanno. @ryankanno garnered over half the votes, beating the fanatic likes of @abaggy and @angelakeen.

Even with an impassioned entreaty for Pinoy support, @abaggy couldn’t keep up with the social engineering of Mr. Kanno. Congratulations Ryan! You get pulpy bragging rights until next time where contenders like @melissa808 are already lining up.

Call Me Ultra Man

Not that superhero dude, but someone who’s into the Ultra line of music. My latest buy is the just released Ultra Weekend 5 (Jason Nevins Presents). On the pricey side at $15, but you do get 30 tracks.

Does Ultra Weekend satisfy my dance music prerequisites? Yep, sure does.

  • Britney Spears remix – Circus
  • Sped up ballad – All That Mattered
  • Popular stuff – Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You
  • Gems – Addicted, Alive, I Remember

Lots of other solid hits. Would have liked a lower cost like $12 but still a good collection. Check it out on Coldplay - Ultra Weekend 5 (Jason Nevins Presents).
