Return of the Watermelon Eating Champion
Over the weekend, the sports world learned that LeBron James was coming home while Carmelo Anthony penned, “My city, my heart.” Lost among this NBA hoopla was the return of the champion, the Hawaii State Farm Fair Watermelon Eating Contest champion.
In 2009, the champ took stage and demolished his watermelon ahead of his competitors. Since then, the champ’s been away unable to defend his title. Until now. 2014. July. Hawaii State Farm Fair at Kualoa Ranch. Eight competitors. One winner.
Here’s the action (including a GoPro closeup view).
It was a close contest with bite-to-bite lead changes with Jake, the 2013 champ. But in the end, 2014 mirrored 2009.

Congratulations to the Farm Fair 2009 and 2014 Watermelon Eating Champ!

Dried Up Juicy
Have you noticed? As announced, the end of June brought the end of Juicy Couture stores including the one at Ala Moana. Don’t hang your head in sorrow, just think of how Juicy Couture can reinvent itself and come back as “Juicier Couture.”

I Need a Bigger Cup Holder
This new, large size Starbucks Iced Coffee is now available at grocery stores. And yes, you need a bigger cup holder in your car to hold this 48-oz container. I mean this is a one-time drink right? Like a super-sized iced coffee?

This iced coffee comes in three flavors, unsweetened, lightly sweetened, and caramel and is 50-60 calories per 8 fl oz (depends on the flavor). As a size comparison, here is the iced coffee bottle next to a Starbucks refrigerated latte boxed drink.

The oddest aspect of this bottle is the girth of the cap. It’s huge, or so you think. When you unscrew the cap, you might be underwhelmed with its actual size.
The Tabasco Man Wuz Hea
Hmmm, I think the Tabasco Man visited our workplace refrigerator after posting my pet peeve. Remember his solution to my pet peeve was to eat the poke? Notice the now-missing poke. Of course, the mustard would remain if you think of the Tabasco Man’s namesake.

A Pet Peeve Variation
I didn’t think it was possible, but I found a variation of my refrigerator pet peeve. You know I hate it when insulated food bags are stored inside a crowded refrigerator at work. But the other day, this blew my mind.

The one insulated bag didn’t bug me as much at that soda box. Seriously? Keeping the soda box cool? And the only items on that soda box are two stacked containers of poke and the one lowly cup of mustard. Then there’s me holding my lunch and water bottles. Guess what happened to that box.
Service Animals Are Not Pets
From what I understand, there’s a market to make and sell service animal garments to disguise regular pets. Then pet owners can bring their beloved pets into stores with them. I guess that’s why Don Quijote has this sign out front.

Also, the ADA defines “service animals” clearly. Here’s one important takeaway point:
Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
Waiting for the Starbucks Sports Drink
Starbucks has gotten its beverage spectrum covered with coffee, espresso, teas, soda, and soon smoothies. So what’s left? A sports drink could be a possibility.
Starbucks is pushing hard for sales after lunch, often times offering deals and promotions only after 2pm. So a sports drink kind of makes sense for the office worker who needs to fuel up for an after-work workout. Want no caffeine or a lot for that added boost? Start with a base of Fizzio, tea, or coffee. Flavor it, sweeten it, add protein, you name it, Starbucks will be able to build it.

What’s Guwapo?
Actually, I guess it should be “Who’s guwapo?” since Urban Dictionary defines guwapo as handsome or beautiful in the Tagalog language. Now I understand why @abaggy keeps saying guwapo as he stands in front of any mirror.
But can @abaggy compare against the guwapo John Spainhour, Mister World Philippines 2014?

Update: I guess for the Ilokano “naguapo” might be the word.
USA Advances in the World Cup
And it’s time to pickup this Patriotic American Flag tank to wear in upcoming matches. If you’re going to be a fan, you might as well be a gaudy fan.
Not Starbucks Melody
Saw this sign at Starbucks in Kailua but don’t think this welcome (back) sign is for Melody Overton aka Starbucks Melody.

Starbucks Melody covers the latest and greatest about all things Starbucks and has quite a following. She recently published a book, Tales of the Siren, about her Starbucks experiences. You can buy it online or even win one in a contest.
Michelle Wie Twerking Play by Play
So you’re 24 years young, making millions playing a game you love, and just achieved a major milestone. Who cares if Michelle Wie partied it up a bit to celebrate. What is funny is Gregg Hammer’s impersonation of a golf announcer doing the play calling for Michelle’s against-the-wall twerking. Take a listen…
