Did Perseus Have Blistered Feet?
Is that how Perseus felt riding atop the winged Pegasus? I surely doubt it, but for me, I am getting blisters from running in my new Nike Air Pegasus 26+ shoes. I’m hoping this is just part of the break in process.
With the 26th model, the Pegasus line has a long history of running, and it is a no frills runner’s shoe with the right amount of tech in the right places, no more, no less.
The Froyo War Heats Up in Kailua
The Froyo Wars in Hawaii is moving to the Windward side with the recent opening of Orange Tree in Kailua. It’s now Orange Tree versus the individual Yogurt Mama. I heard Yogurt Mama is pretty good, but Orange Tree does have a chain of stores at its backing. Who and when will the first froyo-er fall?
But first, some pictures from Orange Tree.
Coconut M&Ms Are Mainstream
That limited edition coconut M&Ms are now mainstream, available in bulk from Costco.
Off the Wall Dinner
Had dinner at Off the Wall in Pearl Kai. This small place serves Okinawan-style food with some local influences. My favorite dishes were the Naked Spicy Ahi Poke Musubi and tonkatsu. I wasn’t overwhelmed with their yakisoba or pork chops. The Shoyu Pork Andagi was interesting with savory pork stuffed into a crunchy andagi shell. The chocolate andagi sounded better than it tasted.

Rod’s New Colorful Kicks Are Nikes?!
University of Hawaii basketballer, Rod Flemings, has his unique sense of style with his kicks. In 2010, he’s at it again with a garish display of every color in the rainbow and then some.
The kicks are custom made and molded to better fit Rod’s dogs, but my question is how does Rod get to don the Swoosh when the team is sponsored by the three stripes of Adidas? Is there some kind of medical clause? Does Rod (or the school) pay a fine or something? Hope these rainbow Nikes lead the Rainbows to victories.
Top Songs of 2009 by The Hype Machine
This list of top songs of 2009 was compiled by users of The Hype Machine which aggregates info from music blogs. I haven’t sampled all the songs, but they look like dance music or mashups. Even better, you can listen to the songs online then buy them from iTunes or Amazon.
Oh wait, after listening to a few songs, I was asked to sign up for a free account to keep listening to the music. Not a bad tradeoff.
Starbucks Gold Card Gotcha
For members of the Starbucks Rewards program that replaced Starbucks Gold, in order to collect points, you need to pay with your Rewards Card. If you use another Starbucks payment card, you won’t receive your points even if you show your Rewards Card.
Yes, you can consolidate cards, transferring the balance of a Starbucks card to your Rewards Card, but it’ll take a bit of time with the cashier. And a bunch of stink eyes glaring at you as you hold up the line of caffeine-addicted patrons wait for their coffee fix.
Stealing Apples
It was bound to happen, but a crime ring in California is targeting buyers of new Apple hardware. After leaving the store with your purchase, the thieves would watch and follow you. If you leave your vehicle with your purchases inside, you’d come back to a burglarized car.
Haven’t you noticed or seen quite a few people toting around Apple boxed items in popular malls like Ala Moana and Kahala Mall? It makes good advertising for Apple products but does sometime bring unwanted attention to yourself.
Mariah Carey is 40 and Brilliant as Ever
I didn’t realize that siren and songstress Mariah Carey is 40 years old. Regardless of age, she’s as brilliant as ever! Just watch her acceptance speech. 😉
Oh wait, is Mariah still in her 30’s?
Box Car Racing at Race World Hawaii
Fun for the family! Surprisingly empty (which was good). Cheap ($7 per and stay as long as you want). A workout for parents (those box cars are heavy). Lane 1 is a dud. It’s fun around the turns until you approach the finish line. Lean into those turns. A non-profit operation so donate if you can.
Head out to Kunia to Race World Hawaii to experience the fun of box car racing.
Seen at the Stanley
What was seen at the Stan Sheriff Center aka “The Stanley” during UH’s basketball victory over Boise State?
The UH Cheer squad was back in action, but the Dance Team was MIA.
The Macho Nachos were too manly for me.
I actually caught something dropped from the half ime blimp. First time ever in my time coming to UH basketball games. I’ve caught a shirt or two from the Bowzooka and played in one halftime game but never got anything from the blimp until today.
Club 939 represented with their custom cap that matches their new shirt (and calendar).
One guess what’s wrong with this straw.
Good WAC win for the Bows. After a disappointing loss to Idaho, I didn’t think UH had a chance against the Broncos. Adhar Mayen started the game with a hot shooting hand then Rod Flemings got going in the second half. Paul Campbell, the Bows MVP? For real? He’s been solid. Hiram looking to drive more and taking it (slowly) to the rack. Balocka with some timely long assist passes to break the press. J. Lay rattled in the first half, knocking down 8 straight from the charity stripe. 1 and 1 in the WAC.
