Call Me Ultra Man

Not that superhero dude, but someone who’s into the Ultra line of music. My latest buy is the just released Ultra Weekend 5 (Jason Nevins Presents). On the pricey side at $15, but you do get 30 tracks.

Does Ultra Weekend satisfy my dance music prerequisites? Yep, sure does.

Don’t you love songs that you really have to listen to in order to understand the subtlety of the lyrics? Those that make you think for a moment about the hidden subtext of the song. Such as it is for today’s Amazon MP3 special, Jeremih.

For $3, you can own this entire album that releases tomorrow for other music retailers, but Amazon has an exclusive early release. Then you can try to figure out what his hit, “Birthday Sex,” is about.

A Social App for The Counter Burger?

Some initial brainstorming for a social app for The Counter Burger just for fun.

How about matching up tastes and menu selections from other customers in other locations. See similar favorites for new possible combinations. Make suggestions on new menu combinations based upon your previous selections. Name your custom built burger which is then suggested to other patrons. See all names of similar or same custom created burgers. Customers can rate your custom created burger and recommend/share. List top rated custom creations (in general, vegetarian, by toppings, etc.). Build “ultimate” menus of sandwiches, starters, and drinks.

By geography and store, breakdown most popular burger choices, french fries, and shakes. Mobile pics of creations.

For users, list previous visits and orders/creations (along with rating of meal).

Must have iPhone version of app. Shake iPhone to randomly suggest a custom creation to try. Show specials of the month (burger and shake). Find/list locations of The Counter by geolocation. Get directions, phone number, hours.

And there goes the brainstorming as I get distracted by Twitter.

Ala Moana Should Go Super Social

Can you believe Ala Moana Center is turning 50 years old on Thursday, August 13, 2009? That’s even before Hawaii became a U.S. state!

As part of the mall’s 50th Anniversary, there are some planned events and celebrations including a photo contest where patrons can send in their favorite picture of Ala Moana from the past 5 decades. Selected photos will be displayed at the Centerstage area from August 13-31, and the winner will receive a $250 Ala Moana gift card.

I’m thinking Ala Moana should go super social with this photo contest and really capture the years of the mall. Why not invite shoppers to submit a massive photostream of their pictures online? I’d like to see and remember how Ala Moana has changed over the years, and I think the only way to document that is through pictures from the people. I’d like to see the comings and goings of stores and all the various construction projects the center has seen.

As is, I can barely remember the days of Liberty House, before the upscale shopping and dining of the third floor. I want to see pictures of the bird (or was it monkey) cage outside of Shirokiya. How about pictures of the original Farrells? What was there before the Apple Store? Wasn’t it some kind of luggage store?

It’d be really cool if all these user submitted pictures were organized and overlaid on an online map of the center where viewers could take a virtual stroll through its history in pictures. This would be very intensive to establish and maintain but just think of all the memories!

One other downer is that all the really good pictures would be of the developed type, not digital, making online uploading more bothersome. Too bad Ala Moana couldn’t set up a few kiosks throughout the mall where users could scan and upload their favorite pics.

Seeing all the pictures of old and new Ala Moana would definitely make people remember its place in Hawaii traditions.

My Recent Memory of Michael Jackson

The musical impact and influence of Michael Jackson has been around for years, so I won’t add any more to that commentary. On a tangent, but a recent memory of the Gloved One is this Dancing with the Stars performance.

Drew Lachey and Cheryl Burke performed a paso doble to MJ’s Thriller, and at that point, I knew this series had something started. The music appealed to the younger generation while the dance was, of course, grounded in classic ballroom. Still one of my favorite DWTS routines.

Looking at the Upcoming LeBron VII

LeBron James’ signature kicks is getting a new look with its seventh stanza. The Nike Air Max LeBron VII departs the heavy combat boot build of previous LeBrons and goes a little lighter with some FlyWire.

In some aspects the LeBron VII reminds me of Vince Carter’s Nike Shox VC line (the VC 2 and VC 3), but instead of the Shox pillars, the new LeBrons features full length Air Max.

I always wondered why LeBron wanted such heavy sneakers throughout the season but changed to the lighter Soldiers during the Playoffs. Let’s see how starting a season with lighter kicks impacts James’ game.

Giving Seattle’s Best a Chance

Since Starbucks is making way for Seattle’s Best Coffee in the Borders location at Windward Mall, I figured I better give them a chance. While picking up some Pinoy power at the Ward Borders, I juiced up at Seattle’s Best.

The coffee was good, but the service was great! Very friendly staff who was willing to explain things. Better yet, they informed me of the Friday special – buy a bag of coffee and get a free medium drink. The barista went over the various coffee beans of Seattle’s Best, and I settled on the seasonal, all around Beach House Blend which is geared towards iced coffee.
