Slacking or Enjoying Life?
Took Thursday off to spend some extra family time even though we just came back from a SoCal vacation. In jest, a coworker said I was slacking via Twitter, but I replied I was merely enjoying life! What did I do on my day off?
Started the day off playing with Play Doh.
Then we headed out to Kahala Mall to dine at The Counter. No Daniel Dae Kim sighting, but the place was packed! Instead of waiting to dine in the kind-of-plain interior, we got take out. Our meal consisted of the signature Counter Burger and Taco Turkey along with Fifty-Fifty fries (regular and sweet). At the recommendation of @abaggy, we needed to try a milkshake too.
Total damage was around $30. Food was good, and I would go back but probably construct my own burger.
I managed to exchange my ultracompact USB power adapter that came with my iPhone 3G at the Apple Store. Then headed to Champs Sports to take advantage of the on-going Friends and Family sale. Sadly, I couldn’t find anything, wishing for the new Nike Air Max 2009+ (of which there’s some confusion about its release date).
The highlight of the day was meeting @NEENZ and @noe808 in real life. I’ve interacted with NEENZ online for some time, going back to her days with Truemors and now Alltop.com. We just never did meet in person. That changed today thanks to Twitter (and BriteKite) when I saw this tweet come in. We were both at Kahala Mall.
I managed to find the Chief Evangelist of Alltop sitting outside of Starbucks. We chatted for a bit about all kinds of stuff (blogging, business, finding time, family, etc) before NEENZ had to continue her social media consultation with @hazelnutcottage. Still though, it was a great chance encounter! (But dumb me forgot to take a picture)
So back to the title of this post, slacking or enjoying life? Definitely enjoying life!
Lingerie Living Large at Ala Moana
Purveyor of intimate apparel Victoria’s Secrets is causing some large scale changes at Ala Moana. The forthcoming store displaced the Gap, the Disney Store, and Footlocker.
That’s a lot of lingerie coming to Hawaii.
Potato Heads at Disneyland
Disneyland’s California Adventure has its share of Potato Heads in the park. Here’s a huge one outside of the Toy Story Mania ride.
You can pickup the latest Star Wars spuds like Luke Frywalker, Yam Solo, Darth Mash, Spuda Fett, and Princess Tater.
And of course, you can stuff as many parts into a box at the Build Your Own Potato Head stand.
I Need Me a Starbucks Plug and Pour
Wow, I need me one of these new fandagled Starbucks Plug and Pour USB sticks.
Wonder if it works with an iMac or MacBook Pro? April Fools!
Kanye and Air Yeezy at Kicks HI?

there is a more than slight possibility that some special guest friends who are in town at the moment might come through for the release of the Air Yeezy
Hmmm, is Kanye in the 808 state?
Dancing with the Stars Jettisons Jetsom
After four weeks of competition, Dancing with the Stars streamlined its lineup, jettisoning Steve Wozniak and Holly Madison. These “bulky” dancers were clearly the ones to go.
Even with its online community, the Nation of Woz was rejected from moving on. Woz wasn’t a dancer by any means but was the typical geek on the show. Woz’s elimination is probably for his own physical benefit with mounting injuries including his bulk crushing his own foot and a hamstring injury.
Playmate Holly Madison also had her share of physical aliments preparing for her dance routines. Most recently, Holly strained muscles in her ribs, probably from swinging around her bulk in the form of 36Ds.
Season 8 of DWTS is turning out to be a great one with some serious contenders. Cheryl Burke and Gilles Marini are by far leading the way, but Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani are keeping pace. Former champs Derek Hough and Mark Ballas can’t be discounted with their solid partners, Lil’ Kim and Shawn Johnson. Even Chuck Wicks with Julianne Hough have a small, small chance of shaking things up.
Geez Louise, Gilles!
Whoa! What an Argentine Tango by Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke in Week 4 of Dancing with the Stars. I thought Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough did a powerful and moving tango, but Cheryl and Gilles absolutely nailed it!
Team Edward, Team Jacob, Team Woz?!
So you thought there were only two camps to choose from, Team Edward or Team Jacob. Well, you were wrong. You can’t deny the force of Team Woz of Dancing with the Stars!! Yes, Steve Wozniak is on borrowed time on the DWTS competition, outlasting Belinda Carlisle and Denise Richards, but he’s fighting back as only geeks can.
Woz (and other geeks) have gone online to help his dancing cause. You can get your own Team Woz shirts (with proceeds going to charity) and be sure to join the official Vote for Woz Facebook group. And if that ain’t enough, you can follow @votewoz on Twitter for all kinds of Woz-ilicious updates!
Stylin’ to a Lakers Game
On the first day of our Southern California (Socal) vacation, I caught a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game. The Lakers played the Golden State Warriors, and I figured the game would be empty since the Warriors aren’t an NBA powerhouse. I was wrong. The attraction of Kobe, Pau, DFish, Odom, and Ariza brings the fans in!
But first, while in LA, the only way to go to a Lakers game is in style. Yes, we had limo service to and from the game thanks to Emilio.
Arriving at the Staples Center, the place was packed with people streaming in. There are shops and restaurants surrounding the area, adding to the overall buzz. The indoor fan store is huge with all kinds of Lakers gear including stuff for Jordan Farmar.
The pre-game video introduction is a production! Check out the introduction of the Lakers T.E.A.M.
During the game, there are all kinds of promotions and giveaways to keep fans excited and engaged. It was like being in a circus of nonstop entertainment.
Oh the game? The Lakers pulled out a victory after a close first half. The Warriors were really shooting well led by Monta Ellis and Kelenna Azubuike. I don’t know who Azubuike is, but you can’t leave him alone. He nailed open shots. In the second half, the Lakers defense picked up and slowed the Warriors game. Kobe had a quiet night with the entire team contributing. Pau Gasol had 21 points and 14 rebound ands Odom went for 16 and 12.
A fun NBA night where the game happens here!
