Meet Coda, One-Window Web Development

The crew over at Panic Software has been busy building a new application called Coda. Coda is described as “one-window web development,” featuring a web development workflow, file transfers via Transmit, a CSS editor, accurate previews, and even an on-line tutorial.

The introductory cost for Coda is $79.

I may give this app a shot even though I’m not a web developer by any means. Panic uses this analogy to explain why Coda:

We’d have our text editor open, with Transmit open to save files to the server. We’d be previewing in Safari, running queries in Terminal, using a CSS editor, and reading references on the web. “This could be easier,” we realized. “And much cooler.”

While doing fun work for Kin Wah Chop Suey and a possibly revamped 939 site, I understand this described situation. I got all kinds of apps and windows open, and it gets real confusing real fast. Having an “one-window web development” environment would be way cool. I’ve been looking for a CSS editor and heard great things about Transmit (and other Panic software), so why not?

I don’t know the story behind these kicks, but maybe the Taiwanese Prez is a kicks fiend? You know, if Nike made shoes with either Mayor Mufi Hannemann or Governor Linda Lingle then I’d for sure have to get me a pair. The Air Mufis and the Lingles would be hot!

Inside 939 Q2 Answered

The next question for the Inside 939 series probes the employee benefits working at Hawaii’s hottest gentlemen’s club.

How are the dancers paid? Do they have an hourly wage or just strictly on tips? Do you provide any medical/dental benefits, 401K plan, vacation?

Do you receive any benefits… LOL.

The response:

the dancers are independent contractors versus our employees (bartenders, servers, security, etc). the dancers are not required to work a certain number of hours and are responsible for reporting their own tip income.

our club is the only one i know that has a medical/dental health plan, and a couple of the dancers have opted to become payrolled employees in order to be eligible for our health plan. they work a minimum of 20 hours per week and are paid minimum wage.

personal benefits are that i get to spend my evenings surrounded by alcohol and beautiful naked women! ;P

How do you find “talent” to work in the club?

The response:

good question. when we first opened, we ran help wanted ads but those were not very successful. today, because we are more established, most of the new dancers find out about us by word of mouth. of the major clubs, we are most similar to mainland-style clubs (one dancer per stage), so dancers from the mainland tend to feel most comfortable at our club. once in a while, female customers will approach me to express interest in dancing, but usually they are drunk and change their mind the next morning!
