Gilly Hicks Is Dramatic
Went into Gilly Hicks at Ala Moana for the first time. My first impression was one of drama. First the throng of good looking people hanging out at the doorway, welcoming us in. Dude, you can put your shirt on, you know. Oh wait, you can’t. Those abs need to be viewable in the public, I forgot.
Then I was instantly deaf. I see why there’s that welcoming throng outside. Once you step in the store, the disco decible music slams your ears. We asked an employee where to buy a gift card, and three feet away, I couldn’t hear a word she said.
So then, we ambled through the maze of rooms and barely there clothes, finally finding the registers way in the (quiet) back. Along this sensory overloaded path, I did think the interior lighting of Gilly Hicks was appropriately dramatic. Here are some clothes in that lighting. I couldn’t bring myself to snap a pic of undies with shoppers walking around me.

Signs of Hawaii: Liberty House Logo
Heck, Liberty House became Macy’s a long time ago when Hackfelds was still around. But did you know that inside the Ala Moana location, you can still find the vintage logo of Liberty House?
It’s hidden in plain sight, especially if you’re riding the escalator from the bottom floor to the main level. Here’s another view.
So next time you’re riding the escalator, take in some of the history that was Liberty House.
Updating History
Just because they asked nicely, I’ll comply… sorta. You see, before there was Farmers Insurance Hawaii, the organization was known as AIG Hawaii. I blogged about both names in the past, but since the AIG Hawaii online name is being phased out, Farmers has a renewed focus on branding their current name. As such, they asked me to update my historical posts linking to aighawaii.com.
But instead of changing these historical posts from 2008 and 2009, I merely appended an update stating that AIG Hawaii changed to Farmers Insurance Hawaii in January 2010. Somehow, I just couldn’t alter the historical context of these posts since at the time, they were accurate. It’s like changing all my posts referencing Liberty House to now say Macy’s.
Anyways, history has at least been updated.
The Whole Foods Market Marketing Machine
With the grand opening of the Whole Foods Market in Kailua coming up in a few days, its marketing machine has been busy. Here are just two promotional materials that have come my way.
And don’t forget about the (sold out) Preview Tour on Sunday, April 15.
Have PowerPoint Then You’re a Designer!
You know that if you’re nifty with Microsoft PowerPoint then that makes you a graphics designer, right? Check out this sign.
Need a surefire way of spicing up your design? Color, have several. Oh, and fonts. They’re all awesome. Why decide, use a different typeface for everything. Still missing that special pop? What’s that last missing element? Of course! It’s WordArt. Nothing says skills like slapping on some WordArt.
