Sunday Paper Delievered
Sadly, a house fire severely damaged a home in the Kailua community earlier in the week. But Sunday’s Star Advertiser newspaper was still faithfully delivered.
Is That a Starbucks or Storage for Home Depot?
Now Starbucks is just playing with caffeine addicts like you and me. Go from two busy locations in Ala Moana to a single, always-slammed spot. But hey, look, a new kiosk graces the Center Court area, and it, too, is busy.
So Starbucks balance has returned to Ala Moana. But not so fast! What’s this?! The minuscule, always-crowded, Macys-in-store location is now closed.
Or is that really a Home Depot storage spot?

What are you doing to us Starbucks??? Just can’t win.

Meet Ariane, the Overexposed Model

Of course, by now, you’ve seen Ariane somewhere. You just didn’t know it. Vital, fresh, Asian-ish. She’s on all kinds of health, fitness, clothing, shopping, traveling, makeup, cooking, relationship, nursing, and more advertisements. Yes, her first name is Ariane, and she really is part Asian, and she has the unofficial title of the most overexposed stock image model.
Check out more from the most famous model in the world you’ve never heard of by following along on Facebook and Tumblr.
Is there a Kickstarter project to fund a book with all her stock image appearances? There should be…
Ben and Jerry’s at Ward?
This has to be an old sign from bygone days right? Ben & Jerry’s ice cream coming to Ward?!? Rewind back to July 2006 when Ben & Jerry’s had their Ward grand opening or a sign in the parking structure that was never taken down?

Air Jordan XX9 Tailored for Flight
The latest Air Jordan, the XX9, officially debuts this Thursday, and the Jordan Brand has released this trailer dropping some hints.
Is it just me or do those fabric swatches behind Russell Westbrook remind you of the colorway of the upcoming multicolor Jordan Future? Coincidence or a hint of XX9 Thursday?

Almost Frozen
So Disney’s Frozen has become the highest grossing animated film of all time, and Frozen-themed costumes are impossible to come by. So it’s no wonder there are diehard fans who love to dress as Elsa and Anna.

I’m have no idea who the character on the right is, and yes, I paparazzi-ed this pic.
Heartbleed Hawaii
So you have to have heard about the Heartbleed vulnerability right? Where the security software used by many Internet services has a flaw that can allow protected information out into the public. This is an oversimplification, but just know that this flaw is bad, and the ramifications could be unknown for a long time, if at all.
Services and sites are quickly fixing this flaw by patching with updated software. But this flaw has been there for two years, so who knows what has happened during that time. The simplest recommendation is to change your account password for affected systems (and even non-affected systems just to be on the safe side) and only after the vulnerability has been mitigated – no sense change your secure password if the site can’t keep it secure. There are other tips as well besides changing your passwords.
Mashable has put together a good collection of popular online services and their stance with regards to Heartbleed. But what about locally? Are popular Hawaii sites affected? Seemingly not. By using Heartbleed scanning tools, you can get a quick assessment of the Heartbleed status of any site. I ran through some Hawaii sites, and here’s what I found.
All in all, pretty good. No definite vulnerable sites found, and the “unknown” results could be traps to stop Heartbleed attacks. But again, to be on the conservative side, you could inquire about Heartbleed compliance.
Any other Hawaii-centric service you want added to the list? Let me know by adding it to this list.

Kicks Analysis 2014 #8: The Champ
It was all said and done before tip off as both the Kentucky Wildcats and UConn Huskies laced up Nikes for the title matchup. But the championship kicks of UConn was somewhat surprising. Even with the Jordan-athlete Jesus Shuttlesworth as alumni, Air Jordans (retro or contemporary) were not prevalent. Neither were LeBrons (signature or Soldier) or the Slim Reaper’s KD line. I don’t even recall seeing the popular Nike HyperRev on the Huskies.
Instead, the Huskies handled the Wildcats thanks to the Black Mamba. Yep, it looks like Kobe’s kicks were a hit with the Huskies. And we’re not talking the latest Kobe 9 but other models like the Kobe 8 and the Venomenon (it’s so hard to tell with dark kicks with no contrasting details).

Rewinding back to 1999 (when Connecticut won in Nikes), the kicks title looks like this:
- 1999 Connecticut (Nike)
- 2000 Michigan State (Reebok Answers)
- 2001 Duke (Nike)
- 2002 Maryland (Nike Shox Stunners)
- 2003 Syracuse (Nike Shox)
- 2004 Connecticut (Nike Lebron Zoom Generation and Air Force Operates)
- 2005 North Carolina (Nike Retro Jordan X)
- 2006 Florida (Nike)
- 2007 Florida (Nike)
- 2008 Kansas (Adidas)
- 2009 North Carolina (Nike)
- 2010 Duke (Nike)
- 2011 Connecticut (Nike)
- 2012 Kentucky (Nike)
- 2013 Louisville (Adidas)
- 2014 Connecticut (Nike Kobe 8 or Venomenon)
Wow, that’s four championships for UConn since 1999, 13 championships for Nike over 16 years, and one shining moment.
Kicks Analysis 2014 #7: The Finals
Or this post could have been titled, “Why Air Jordans Remain Popular.” The Finals of 2014 are a role reversal from 2013 when Adidas locked in a victory. This Saturday, second-seeded Wisconsin and their Adidas was upended by an upstart and Nike-clad Kentucky crew. The Wildcats will take on the Huskies of Nike-sponsored Connecticut later today.
About that statement about the perpetual popularity of Air Jordans. This picture says it all.

Kentucky’s Aaron Harrison nailing the clutch game winning shot…in Air Jordan 11 “Gammas.” Just another Air Jordan moment immortalized, another symbol of success, another win for Jordan and Nike. It’s gotta be the shoes!
Kicks Analysis 2014 #6: The Final Four
The wacky Final Four is set with #8 Kentucky (Nike), #2 Wisconsin (Adidas), #1 Florida (Nike), and #7 Connecticut (Nike) advancing. The odds of a Nike team winning the championship tracks with the original kicks distribution of 70% Nike and 28% Adidas. Can Wisconsin win two more times in the name of Adidas?
From a kicks perspective, Florida might edge Kentucky in style variety. The Gators’ kicks feature old school, new generation, muted colors, bright colors, high tops, low tops – you name it, they got it.
