Chicken Crossing the Road
For whatever reason, I find this video of a chicken running across the road of the Target Kailua parking lot very entertaining.
Maybe she was amped up from that Starbucks coffee.

Just a reminder to myself that the Evergreen Post Tweeter plugin conflicted with the WordPress timer service, at least for my blog. As a symptom of this, scheduled posts wouldn’t post on the publish date and time, and there would be a backlog of actions queued up.
I was only aware of this since the UpdraftPlus backup plugin wouldn’t run its automated backups. UpdraftPlus itself would complain about incomplete actions. On a hunch, I disabled Evergreen Post Tweeter since it times the posting of old posts on Twitter. Sure enough, after disabling Evergreen Post Tweeter, WordPress started behaving normally. Scheduled posts published on cue, and I have yet to see incomplete actions reported by UpdraftPlus.
Time to replace incandescent bug lights with an LED version and see how they work. Apparently, a few LED bug lights are merely regular LED lights with a yellow coating on the bulb, not actual yellow light. Amazon reviews say the effect of not-attracting bugs is the same although overall brightness from the light sounds less. I shall soon see…
My most recent distraction sucking up my time is checking out the #rossfinds hashtag on Instagram. As its name implies, IG images are of discounted items found at Ross stores all over America. Mostly though, you’ll find pictures of cool kicks that Ross hunters have come across.
It’s kinda interesting to see the variety of shoes or really, the similarity of shoe offerings at different locations. There are more similarities than I would have thought. The best, of course, are those special gems that you come across by pure happenstance. Now I think some of the #rossfinds images are fake, but you can never tell. I’m not sure how you’ll find recently released Air Jordan 11, 72-10, at Ross. But then again, I did find the Air Jordan 4 Legend Blue one morning (true story).
Anyways, I’m making sure my kicks pics are tagged #rossfinds to contribute to this community.
Nothing lasts forever, but Macy’s in Kailua made a good run at it. In the heart of Kailua downtown for as long as I can remember, this smallish Macy’s was always an excellent backup. Sure, they didn’t have everything like the Ala Moana location, but this store had enough. Oh and finding that particular size was usually successful at Kailua. But soon, very soon this historic Kailua location will be closed.
Here are a few shots as of January 22, 2016. Items are on sale but not really. Mostly everything is 25% off but the prices are full retail to begin with so the discounts aren’t that great. Maybe later, the cuts will be more, but with other Macy’s locations that can be transferred to, I doubt unreal deals are to be found.
Thanks to DreamHost and their partnership with Let’s Encrypt, Pulpconnection can now be reached using the secure SSL communications at https://www.pulpconnection.net.
But…
I did it wrong or at least didn’t really have a good understanding of what I was getting into. While secured communications is a good thing, I didn’t realize how much unsecure communications was actually going on. Pictures are not loading and some widgets are busted, assumedly trying to use http versus https.
That and my site’s certificate has an unfortunate mismatch due to the www prefix. Yeah, times have changed, and the URL convention of starting with www is no longer the norm. So the certificate I got from Let’s Encrypt is for pulpconnection.net, not www.pulpconnection.net. Yes, it matters.
I may be able to reconfigure my site to remove the leading www, but I’m not sure what havoc that may cause. So for now, I’ll leave things as is, but if you go to https://www.pulpconnection.net, your browser should warn you of a mismatch. This is (mistakenly) intentional until I can figure out how to fix it
I knew chances were slim to get the new yellow Air Max Zero, but I had to try for these SNKRS exclusives. But then, these AM0 were not exclusive to the iOS app afterall available on nike.com.
Released at 5am Hawaii time, this is what I saw in the SNKRS app.
Yes, right at 5am, these shoes were out of stock. Gotta be them bots. I tried buying online and was in line to add the Zeroes to my cart, but all my attempts came up empty. Throughout the morning, various sizes popped up in inventory, but I could never add one to my cart, getting the usual error messages. The SNKRS app was totally useless after showing Out of Stock.
So what did I learn from this latest experience?
I’m not sure why this is, but whenever I ask Siri to play songs curated by Zane Lowe of Beats 1 and Apple Music, Siri always brings up Zane’s playlist from December 14, 2015.
I’m not necessarily complaining about this choice since it is a solid playlist leading off with Coldplay and ending with lots of Taylor Swift. Everything else in between is good too – Kendrick Lamar, Grimes, Justin Bieber, A-Trak, CHVRCHES, Alessia Cara, and Lana Del Rey.
But I would like more variety of Zane Lowe’s selections in the future. Maybe I have to give Siri the “more like this” command.
That’s the question I need to research more. Nike’s Air Max 360 cushioning is a known quantity having worn several shoes with this tech in the past, but Adida’s Ultra Boost is surely making a name for itself, especially with regards to comfort and cushioning. I kinda like the supportive stiffness of the Air Max 360 bubble, but the plush ride of the Ultra Boost would be nice too.
Now, Adidas has the Ultra Boost ST which gives credit to my hunch that the Boost isn’t necessarily good for flat footers. With the stability enhancements for the Ultra Boost ST, maybe it’s time to try them out. I have two reservations buying Adidas – fit and find.
For some reason, the fit of Adidas shoes varies greatly (for me). Half size up, one size up, too tight, too loose – I really want to try on an Adidas model before purchasing since my experience is inconsistent and mixed. That leads to the second problem of finding high-end Adidas shoes. The Ultra Boost line can’t easily be found in Hawaii. Finding online is possible but at a cost. Shipping to Hawaii typically is not free, and returns (if they don’t fit well) could incur additional charges. None of these hassles plague Nike.com. Make a purchase as a Nike+ member and shipping is free both ways. Because there’s no fuss, I’m more willing to try out a shoe. If it don’t fit, I just need to drop the box off at UPS and back it goes.
Price is a factor, but I’m willing to dish out for shoes if need be. But I’m also willing to wear off color ways at a significant discount. Due to the popularity of the Ultra Boost, you really can’t find them on discount.
So what will it be, Nike Air Max 360 or Adidas Ultra Boost?
My Mac Outlook 2016 (aka Version 15) has been running real slow so I wanted to rebuild its database to clean up any nagging issues. Holding down the Option key while starting up Outlook 2016 does nothing. There’s a reason for that – there is no database to rebuild anymore.
According to this Microsoft Office for Mac blog post, the database has been replaced with SQLite that runs its own maintenance as needed. When fixes are needed, SQLite takes care of them silently says the post.
Forgot to post these pictures from Barnes and Noble that I took over the Chirstmas holidays. I had forgotten what it felt like to walk around a bookstore.
I gotta admit that even with the resources of the Internet, this magazine has an excellent collection of all things WordPress.
Coloring books for adults is trendy right now. Check out the (growing) collection available.
Even Candy Crush has a themed coloring book.
Now where was this all this time? A comic book that you can color in.
But Barnes and Noble has more than books. Their toy section has interesting items like these Pop characters. My favorite from Big Hero 6 is Fred in his old school Japanese bad guy costume.
The Predator in Pop form is still freaky looking.
I gotta make sure to visit more often. All kinds of interesting goodies to see!
