In 8 Days…
It’s now official. Apple Event on September 12, 2012. With the shadow of a “5,” you can safely assume the much rumored iPhone 5 cometh. Are there Advent calendars counting down to Apple events?

Are LEGO toys a passion or an addiction? It’s getting to be a close call for me with more and more LEGO sets introduced. The latest Minifigures Series 8 released at the beginning of September.

We got the Evil Robot and the Fairy. For the Evil Robot, you can feel his big bucket-like helmet and his gun’s rod. Long, skinny pieces are distinctive to feel out. For the Fairy, search out her wings. They’re an odd shape and also flat.

If you purchase over $75 at the LEGO Store, you get this limited Monsters Fighters promotional set. It’s a good time to start Christmas shopping for kids! Have you seen the Christmas Advent calendar sets?
Spotted a new Acura ILX headed out of Pearl City.
From the back view, I wasn’t too impressed. This Acura looked too much like an upscaled Honda Accord. It didn’t have a distinctive Acura look.
Them bright minds (and great customer service) at Zappos are at it again. We all should have seen this one coming since it makes so much sense. Pinterest continues to be a scorcher where users visually pin their likes, styles, and inspirations. Zappos’s new service called PinPointing takes a Pinterest profile and based on pins, makes recommendations for products available from Zappos. Utter genius!
Here’s what PinPointing pinpointed for me.
Beyonce’s performance of I Was Here celebrating World Humanitarian Day at the United Nations New York headquarters is absolutely redefining. The showcase of the human spirit was accentuated by the visual technology used. Just watch, and it’s okay to tear up.
That’s no curtain. That’s a huge projection!
I don’t know about you, but I like to associate songs and music to events to help remember the occasion. For the Scion FR-S Social Media Superstar Search contest, here are some of the songs stuck in my head. No particular order and no particular reasons for picking these songs, just songs that I like.
You can also find the full list on my shared iTunes playlist and a partial list on Spotify. Sorry, having a problem embedding the Spotify playlist here. 🙁
Check out this video comparing the moves of MJ and the Black Mamba.
What surprises me more is the amount of time it must have taken to sift through all this footage! Now that’s passion.
One of the interesting aspects of joining the Starbucks Rewards is not just the program’s perks but taking a look at your coffee-addicted behavior. Okay, so you may not really want to know how many times you’ve visited Starbucks (thankfully, there are no (visible) dollar amounts spent at each visit), but looking at your Rewards History, you can easily chart your visits and stars earned. Here’s what my July 2012 looked like.
I earned 12 Rewards stars during the month and as you can guess, I treat myself to a drink on most Fridays. On July 13, I earned a free drink (every 15 stars at the Gold level).
Doing a real quick analysis on a monthly basis gives me the chart below.
Starting in June 2012, my Starbucks visits (and consumption) went up considerably. I should take a look at blog posts from that month to see what was up. For the on-going 12 Star Dash, I added the orange reference line. Interesting… If I had seen this data before, I wouldn’t have taken the contest so lightly, having met the 12-star goal only three times all in the past three months. To complete the Dash, I need to rack up 12 stars in less than half a month.
Hmmm, time to strategize…
With my order of a basic iced coffee, I’ve officially started my 12 Star Dash sponsored by Starbucks. The goal? Twelve Starbucks transactions in 14 days to win $5.
Can. Much better chances than this one. 😉
One down, 11 to go…
It must be the proverbial midlife crisis. How else can I rationalize wanting to drive a new, sporty Scion FR-S? The car is totally impractical for my lifestyle, yet the allure is there.
Maybe I’m trying to recapture my former Toyota Celica days. Maybe I’m remembering way back to small kid time when my family of five rode around in a 1984 Celica coupe with me perched on the center hump. Whatever it is, it is still there.
And here we are… Scion Hawaii started their Social Media Superstar Search contest a few weeks back to test drive a Scion FR-S for one week, and I entered. But it’s only for one week you might be thinking. Yeah, so? Ultimately, I know I can’t buy this car since it’s just not realistic – two doors, a tiny back seat where I would have to cram two kids’ car seats. Can you see this situation playing out over the years? So one week? Heck, yeah, that’s doable! 🙂
Getting back to the contest, the top two vote getters wins the FR-S for a week. Voting ends on 11pm, Friday, August 31, 2012. Since this is a social media contest, well really a Facebook contest, there are a few things you got to know in order to vote.
Yes, I realize I’m waaay back there in the contest, and there are very qualified drivers who can better put the FR-S through its paces, but… this is a social media contest, and it’s all in fun so why not have fun with it? I’m not saying my Sienna van high revving its engine to enter the H3 freeway isn’t fun, but I’m sure the FR-S experience would be fun-er.
So go ahead, have some fun, and place your Scion FR-S vote. Random voters can also win a Scion backpack and $25 in credit at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
While you’re voting for me, follow along with Scion Hawaii’s latest on:
