Run This Town and D.O.A (Death of Autotune) already have airplay. Empire State of Mind has an awesome chorus by Alicia Keys. I prefer the beats of Off That over On To the Next One, and the A Star is Born turns up the RPMs a bit. Reminder is just that, a reminder of who’s still on the top of his game. Young Forever has an interesting sample of Forever Young. All in all, a solid addition to your music collection.
The Aloha Arleen Saga
Overnight, there was quite a bit of Twitter discussion about the history of @alohaarleen. Arleen’s a prolific tweeter (too walaau mouth for me) with 80,000 followers who crossed a few too many people here on the island. Then the past started coming out. High drama in Twitterlulu!
Norah Jones Had to Forgo Aloha for Apple
Norah Jones was supposed to perform at the Hawaii Writers Conference but had to cancel due to poor sales of the $100-500 tickets. The conference itself took place, just without the gala fundraiser featuring Jones.
Although Norah couldn’t perform in the Aloha state, she definitely landed on her feet this week, performing at Apple’s Special Event that featured the return of Steve Jobs.
I’m hoping her Apple appearance had nothing to do with her Hawaii cancellation.
Making a Snow Leopard Cry
Obviously a Mac OS X Snow Leopard can cry. Just don’t upgrade to iTunes 9 along with the accompanying music library update, gap analysis, and genius matching and update your iPhone to 3.1 and redeem an iTunes gift card and do a Time Machine backup all on a variety of drives. You too can make a Snow Leopard cry.
Threadless Tees for $9 on 9-9-09
For the special occasion of September 9, 2009 aka 9/9/09, online shirt purveyor Threadless is selling their custom designed shirts for $9. It’s a great time to load up on some fun tees.
I placed my very first order with Threadless after seeing a few catchy designs like this pulpy one.
FYI, shipping to Hawaii for three shirts was ~$8. Also, supposedly the American Apparel-made shirts shrink less than the Threadless branded shirts.
My Off-Roading Mailman
I couldn’t believe it and had to watch for a bit as our new postal carrier went off roading to deliver mail in the neighborhood. Instead of stopping his mail truck and getting out to make his deliveries, he would drive on curbs, squeeze by brushes, and do anything so he didn’t have to get out. What a trip!
Organic Is the New Natural
The word “organic” is all over the place, supplanting the word “natural.” Naturally, there’s organic food and organic fertilizer, and organic chemistry has been around forever. But organic growth? Organic search results based upon Search Engine Optimization? Organic computing? Organic law? Do you work in an organic organization? The remastered Beatles music coming out today is described as “stunningly clear, spacious and organic.”
With all this organic talk, I want to harken back and remember things naturally.

SLAM’s annual Kicks issue is out. Derrick Rose is rocking his Adidas on the cover, but for me, the return of the And1 Tai Chi is way cooler. Get your kicks fix now.
The Star Bulletin preview of this year’s UH football team has this great spoof of the Macworld magazine. Yep, it’s Mackworld with Head Coach Greg McMackin on the cover. Got to love the computer themed titles.
And lest you forget, Mack 2.0 is more sensitive and understanding.
