Hide the Goods! Footlocker F&F Sale
Is it a coincidence or not? When Footlocker has a Friends & Family sale, all the good stuff doesn’t seem to be at the stores. Some weeks, there are a ton of great stuff at regular prices. But when the F&F kicks in with 30% off, all that great stuff mysteriously disappears.
Does Footlocker sell out of these goods before the F&F sale, or are these items pulled from the shelves so deals can’t be had? I wonder… but go find out yourself with a Footlocker F&F sale running July 24-27.
Alien Ninjas Coming?
I’ve been on the lookout for more about them mysterious Alien Ninjas seen in Hawaii but haven’t found much. They’re supposed to make an appearance at Comic-Con which is starting up this week.
Doing some Googling for the past few days has yielded nada. But today, the domain name alienninja.tv is showing some life. Before, this URL would time out. Now at least, there’s a blank directory listing perhaps indicating more to follow.
Can’t wait to see what secrets the Alien Ninjas hold.
Free Vivannos This Weekend
Starbucks will be giving away free Vivanno drinks this weekend to those with registered Starbucks cards. On July 25 and 26, you can taste a healthy dose of Orange Mango Banana or Banana Chocolate and see if the Vivannos stand a chance against its former Jamba Juice sibling.
I guess you’ll have to pay for any additions you’d want to add like a shot of espresso…

Starbucks Is Not Jamba Juice
For the longest time, I thought Starbucks and Jamba Juice were conjoined twins. You usually see one right next to the other. That’s why I was confused to hear of Starbucks’ latest Vivanno fruit drinks. Why bother with a Jamba-like creation when the real deal was usually a few doors away?
I asked this question to a Starbucks employee and was quickly corrected that Starbucks is no longer part of the same company as Jamba Juice. They used to belong to the same owners but have gone separate ways a few years back. Hence the start of the juice wars.

Best Battle Cries
Wired.com has their top ten list of best battle cries. You know, when He-Man yells, “By the power of Greyskull … I have the powerrr!!!” That kind of thing.
The list is okay, but it’s missing some of my favorites like:
“Let’s show’em some thunder!” from the G.I. Joe animated series.
“Knuckle up!” from Matrix Revolutions as the sentinels raided Zion and the exo-skeleton armored humans defended the last free city.
“Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you’re already dead!” from Gladiator.
“Autobots! Roll out.” from the Transformers.
And the best of all is this “battle cry” which isn’t so much of a verbal cry. But when bad guys heard this, they knew a beat down was coming, and they’d end up as a pile of burnt out gears.
The WNBA Comes of Age
Whoa, a fight in the WNBA last night with three ejections! Players coming off the benches in defense, coaches trying to separate players. Rick Mahorn, Bill Laimbeer, Michael Cooper involved?! Pistons versus the Lakers all over again.
The NBA is now definitely in the WNBA.
VirtualBox Free for the Mac
If you need to run other operating systems on your Intel-based Mac, there are a variety of options. VirtualBox is the latest in the virtual machine market joining Parallels and VMWare. VirtualBox is an open source project of Sun Microsystems, works well, and is free.
Can’t beat that.

The Caffeine Lineup
When you need a boost to keep you going…
Ounce for ounce, the original Starbucks Doubleshot with espresso and cream gives me the quickest caffeine hit. The Royal Mills/Ito-en Cappuccino is the best value drink coming in at $0.65 a can, and it tastes good too. I’m still getting used to the new Starbucks Doubleshot energy drinks with ginseng and guarana. There’s an aftertaste to this drink, but it keeps you going for hours. The new Dews are a sight to see, but the original is still the one for me.
The Secret of Alien Ninjas in Hawaii
Who knew there were aliens in Hawaii? Who knew there were ninjas in Hawaii? Who knew there were alien ninjas in Hawaii? What better place to reveal the secret existence of alien ninjas than Secret Island?
While at a picnic at Secret Island, a film crew was at work with some unusual subjects.
These are the Alien Ninjas which hopefully go viral on mobile networks near you. Producers from Los Angeles came to Hawaii to shoot these video segments that are supposed to be shown on mobile networks (aka cell phones). I’m not sure of the plot or story line other than there’s a robot, a male alien ninja, and a female alien that likes fruits (apples, bananas, and pineapples).
The Alien Ninjas are also launching a web site at alienninja.tv (I think, not active yet) and are going to Comic-Con 2008 after this Hawaii production.
Interestingly and coincidentally enough, a fellow alumni was heading the shoot and provided this information (though I probably mangled it after hours in the sun). And although I had to pass on being an extra in the evening luau scene, I did have a campy segment reacting to alien ninjas battling it out so keep an eye out!

Secure Mail on iPhone
Some notes about doing secure email on an iPhone using Mail app, not webmail in Safari.
- List of root certificates pre-installed with iPhone 2.0 software. Right ones are already there…
- Secure IMAP uses SSL over port 993.
- When configuring secure IMAP, my iPhone could not verify my settings. I was given the option to save or cancel. According to this discussion, save anyways.
- Go back to iPhone Mail app and check mail. Things should be working. 😉
- Still to do – fix sending email. Above steps allows receiving and reading email.
Read up on iPhone Enterprise Deployment Guide if want advanced features like installing a .p12 certificate on your phone. Easiest way is to build a configuration profile that includes your certificate then email that configuration to your iPhone. When opening this emailed configuration attachment, the iPhone runs through an install procedure. Be sure you know the password to your certificate! I really don’t know if this step is necessary to get secure IMAP email (I don’t think so).
