Slashdot has a discussion going about dealing with uneducated IT managers. Here’s how it started:

Is it ignorant to believe an IT manager should be a knowledgeable in technology as a whole? A person you respect and frequently learn from? It creates an extremely frustrating work environment, and our team doesn’t know how to approach the problem. It’s becoming too much to simply “put up with it.”

Speaking of bones, I don’t normally write about this kind of drivel topics outside my circle of interest, but I’ll make an exception this time around as Kim will be heading to England to take part in an archaeological excavation. She’s joining the Earthwatch.org team on its Roman Fort on Tyne expedition. Here’s a blurb:

Ten years of Earthwatch teams have mapped more than 1,000 square meters of pre-Roman and Roman settlement here, turning up jewelry, armor, game boards, and ceramics. You will work in groups of four or five, rotating among many available tasks. You are sure to become proficient at a wide range of activities, including stratigraphic excavation using a trowel and brush, recording techniques, site surveying, and sampling, cleaning, and processing finds.

Me thinks:
“stratigraphic excavation“=digging holes to bury unwanted waste material
“recording techniques“=transcribing hand written notes into a computer
“site surveying“=checking out local spots to eat at
“sampling, cleaning, and processing“=tiddying up the camp site and getting coffee for the archaeologists

Save it folks, Kim already heard the part about her paying to be one of these volunteers. Just one more reason for the Al-Qaeda to have issues with the US and the UK.

In a past post, I forecast the end of the upcoming Fox series, Bones. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance. Today’s Honolulu Advertiser has some good things to say, naming Bones as one of the “seven best new television shows for fall.”

I guess I have to watch a show or two, hoping Buffy, Spike, and the rest of the crew make a surprise appearance. I know, I know, these shows were cancelled, and I got to move on…

The price of Google’s stock continues to rise after its initial offering only last year. The stock started around $85 per share and is now headed towards $300. Just last week, Google announced it would release more stocks to raise $4.2B.

Today, there’s rumors that Google is about to unleash GoogleTalk, their Instant Messaging and Voice Over IP solution. I think it’s (already past) time to jump on the Google stock bandwagon.

Update: Yes, GoogleTalk is real, and it went active early! Mac users tap into GoogleTalk with iChat. Free long distance calls, but you need a gmail account to participate. Anyone need an invitation to gmail? I gots some. That’s it, I have to get Google stock now.

Motorola’s new ROKR (E790) cell phone with built-in iTunes music playing still isn’t shipping. It’s getting closer to being released, and Motorola did promise a release before the end of September. Patience, patience.

Went to the wedding of Ryan and Judie last night at Ihilani. Had a fun time. Groomsmen and Bride’s Maids’ speeches were funny (and some times quirky), but it’s all good. The Ihilani Presidential Suite is unreal! Ryan and Judie, wish you the best.
