Lunch at Tsukiji
Went to a lunch buffet at Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant that recently opened at the Ala Moana Ho`okipa Terrace. A big interior with lots of tables, lots of people, lots of space to walk, and lots of food.
The restaurant opens at 11am, and there was a line waiting to get in. Good thing we had a reservation and got a big table. Interesting interior design. Quite a bit of variety of quality food that sure beats Makino Chaya. Though the selection of protein was limited to kalua turkey, kal bi, and teri chicken, but if you’re a sushi lover, you had a choice of sashimi. The salads and desserts were limited but then again, I didn’t come to a Japanese buffet to eat salad and dessert. After stuffing myself, I did get a shave ice with condensed milk which was actually pretty good.
Some random scenes from the day. Club 939 is featuring the ultimate adult-themed Halloween party on Halloween night. Cinnamon Girl has a new exterior facade. I hope their terrible exchange policy has gotten better.
Saw this older gentleman chillin’ on the Ho`okipa Terrace listening to his iPod (see them distinctive earbuds?), but check out his socks. Is that a Jordan Jumpman logo? Young at heart baby!

Abercrombie & Fitch Models…
While at Ala Moana the other day, I passed by Abercrombie & Fitch where there was the obligatory show of flesh by sculpted dudes like Wayne’s World in the store’s entryway.
For an April Fools joke or something, I wish they would have some average guy letting his gut hang out while pimping the Abercrombie gear. That would be classic.

AppleTV at Apple Ala Moana
The new AppleTV is in stock at the Ala Moana Apple Store. They had a few boxes behind the counter but didn’t have a live demo going. I talked to one of the Apple employees who said they were working on the AppleTV display tonight to have it ready by Sunday or at least for next week.
Sighted Over the Weekend
Sighted over the weekend (with pictures). Craziness at LeSportsac at Ala Moana. There was a short line in the morning but a long one after lunch. Simone Legno, the designer of the new tokidoki collection was there.
I was asked to leave yet another store due to my beverage of choice. But at least Bag ‘n Baggage had a warning sign at their entrance. I’m cool with that.
Is it me or does Cinnamon Girl have the WORST return/exchange policy? All sales final, can’t get cash or credit back even with your receipt, can only get store credit, and so on…
Interesting Sights at Ala Moana
While out doing some damage during this weekend’s Friends and Family bonanza, saw some interesting things at Ala Moana.
LeSportsac has an interesting design going on with some of their bags. I think this series is called Tokidoki and reminds me of Japanese cartoons.

Caught the very tail end of the Ala Moana Holiday show, The Christmas Gift of Aloha, and it snowed on the center stage. Pretty neat.

La Palme Dor Patisserie
Heard a new dessert shop, La Palme Dor Patisserie, opened up next to Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center. Finding it was tricky since it’s facing the parking lot along with a few other small stores.
The store is nicely decorated and the treats look great in the glass case. So many varieties, and the recently-opened store isn’t even in full swing yet.
I tried a coffee dessert that was pretty good. Cost was $4 which is on the high side, especially since the bakery in Shirokiya is right next door. But the desserts at La Palme Dor are the kind of stuff you’d expect at a sitdown restaurant so the $4 price tag really isn’t that bad. Also compare that price with a single scoop of ice cream at the new Ben & Jerry’s at Ward. If you had to, what would you rather spend your $4 on?

Eating at Islands Burgers
After a long wait at the Sears Portraits studio in Ala Moana, we ate at the recently opened Island Burgers. We had eaten at Islands years ago in Irvine so we decided to check out this first location in the Islands.
The menu selection is bigger than I thought with more than just burgers. I went for the spicy Kilauea burger, and it was peppery hot. The basket of fries is huge, but there’s a special bag to take home leftovers. After eating the Kilauea, I felt like a volcano, spewing toxic gas here and there. The food was prepared quickly, and I was stuffed. In all, a better experience than going to Ruby Tuesdays.

And on the way out, I stopped by Foot Locker and saw the new black and orange colorway of Dwyane Wade’s Converse kicks. Very, very nice. If I had more disposable income, I would have picked up a pair. Reminds me of my old And1 orange and black Mad Game Sprewell editions I had back in 2002.
