Just updating the original March Madness 2007 Kicks Analysis by correcting the unknown status of Creighton and Jackson State. Both teams wear Nikes although both teams have been eliminated from the Tourney.

By now you know how many Big Dance teams are wearing what brand of kicks and you also know how the 2007 bracket looks with respect to sneaks. How do the conference shoe sponsorships look? Well, they look like this:
For comparison, take a look at the conference shoe sponsorships for March Madness 2006.
Although the games have begun, and it’s too late to change your picks, here is a look at this year’s brackets along with their respective shoe sponsorships.
And just remember that teams wearing Nikes have won 85% of the championships since 2000.
In 2006, the Final Four consisted of three Nike teams (George Mason, LSU, and Florida) and one Adidas squad in UCLA.
It’s time for the madness to begin, and like last year, I’ll be keeping an eye out on the kicks worn during the NCAA Tournament. Why check out the various kicks? Well, because in recent history, teams wearing Nike’s swoosh have been the champions 6 of the last 7 times. The kicks don’t lie!
So without further delay, I present the 2007 March Madness Kicks Analysis.
Nike continues to dominate team sponsorships, upping their count to 44 teams this year compared to 42 teams in 2006. Adidas is a distant second with 15 sponsorships, followed by Reebok (Boston College and Niagara), and only Winthrop rocking New Balance. And1 failed to make a showing this year. I must admit that I missed two teams, Jackson State and Creighton, and can’t yet determine their sponsorships. After these teams play their first round games, there’ll be enough footage to correct these errors.
Interesting little factoid about Nike’s sales. Nike has “96% of the market share in the $100 or more price point” meaning Nike owns the market for basketball shoes costing more than $100.
I can believe it, but I haven’t contributed to that figure in a long time. Maybe it’s time to get me some new Kobe’s? His new line of Weapons of War is one of the more intriguing shoes Nike has right now. Maybe the $140, killer whale-inspired Strengths?

On the heels of their successful Black Friday one day sale, Kicks HI is having another special sale on Friday, December 29. 15% off of everything.
Not sure how much stock they have since the last sale, but if you’re looking for some kicks, might as well check it out.
Okay, I didn’t make it to the first Black Friday sale for Kicks HI but did get a peek at the madness thanks to KHON2. Tannya Joaquin did a story on Holiday Credit Card Tips, and this piece featured video footage of shoe heads feeding their fetish at Kicks HI.
People waited for three hours in line to get $10 shoes and 15% off everything in the store.
Crazy!
Eminem’s charity auction for his custom designed Nike Air Max kicks is underway and his second set of designs has been revealed.
Slim Shady’s initial Air Max 87 and 90 designs are going for about $1000 a pair on eBay, but I think Slim did a better job with his Air Max 93 and Air 180. The white, black, and orange Air 180s are just in time for Halloween.
Still though, I’d pass on these kicks.
After seeing Russell Tanoue in action wearing his fly New Balance kicks, I’m kinda liking the updated retro look of these shoes. Kicks Hawaii is featuring this new colorway of the New Balance 574.
Part of the Varsity Pack, it’s reminiscent of those high school letterman jackets. Nice!
Team Jordan is at it again, offering an exclusive Thunder and Lightning package. Featuring the classic Air Jordan 4s in black thunder and yellow lightning colorways, these packages will be extremely limited.
The Black Thunder package includes the black AJ4 and a Rare Air jacket and will go for $500(!!). The Yellow Lightning package has the yellow AJ4 along with a Rare Air tee shirt, and it will sell for $250.
On-line only sales begin on August 23, 2006 starting at 3:30 PDT. Only one per person. More details here or at Jumpman23.com.

Yes, dear readers, I almost picked up a pair of pink kicks. Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s the freedom of being on vacation, or maybe I’m just addicted to kicks, but I almost succumbed and bought a pair of Nike Shox TL2 running shoes from discount store Marshalls, here in the armpit of Cali. I had to demonstrate extreme sangfroid to resist the temptation.
Normally, these cost about $120-150 but Marshalls had them for $60. The catch? These are women shoes in black and pink. Still though, the main difference between men and women shoes is the 1.5 size difference. Size 9.5 in men equals size 11 in women’s, and sure enough that’s what I found at Marshalls – the only pair of TL2s in a size 11.
The TL line is one of the top Nike products, and the TL2 is a high performance, cushioned running shoe featuring Shox columns the entire length of the foot. Kinda ugly and clunky, but for an overweight guy with busted up knees and ankles trying to run, comfort and cushioning are important. Nike has the TL3 and TL IV available, so the TL2 are showing their age.
Now the question is, can I pull it off wearing pink sneakers?
