The Actor and a Pirate
To round out Series 8 of the LEGO minifigures, I think I’ll end with the Actor and the Pirate Captain. I’m missing three from the entire set but got the ones I wanted.

Ho’okipa means hospitality, not cravable in the Hawaiian language. But these Ho’okipa sunglasses from Maui Jim are surely cravable in Hawaii (and other lands). All three colored lenses (bronze, grey, and rose) bring something different to the line.

While Maui Jim products are not eligible for Macy’s coupons and sales, if you buy two sets of sunglasses at Sunglass Hut in Macy’s you get $40 off a second pair. So use your Macy’s coupons on the first pair, then get $40 your MJ’s.
Of course, you can always shop at Amazon but without trying them on, comparing them with other sunglasses, getting serviced by staff, and getting them fitted.
Can you now email from iCloud.com? Did you check to see if your me.com and mac.com email addresses got its third evolution of @icloud.com?
Log into Mail at www.icloud.com. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of Mail. Select Preferences then go to Accounts. In the middle of the Accounts screen, do you see something like this?
If you see an address with icloud.com, you’re all set. Send a test email to your account @icloud.com to verify it’s working.
It’s only a matter of time before more and more cases for the iPhone 5 hit the market. To provide basic protection in the meantime, I picked up the Belkin Grip Candy Sheer Case in the Gravel/Reflection (Teal/Silver) color scheme. Best Buy has some iPhone 5 cases in stock from a variety of vendors: Belkin, Speck, In Case, Griffin Technology, Incipio, Otterbox, and a few more. But I like the simplicity of this basic Belkin case.
I would have preferred the black/green color combo, but that’s currently unavailable. The case I bought doesn’t have the Belkin logo dots on the back, bottom right corner.
Here are pictures of this case on a black iPhone 5. Yes, the case looks more dramatic on a white iPhone, but it don’t look bad on the black.
With the new Lightning connector for the iPhone 5, my five year old iPod Nano has new life. In order to listen to tunes while driving, I need the Nano and its old school dock connector.
Looks like I’ll be buying a bunch of Lightning cables and accessories in the near future.
So I’ve been having a weird issue or two with my new iPhone 5. Here’s an oddity with the Mail app in iOS 6. Check out the screen shot. How do I compose a new email?
That’s correct. The “compose email” button in the bottom right corner is missing! Odd… A quick screen rotation brings the button back, but it shouldn’t be missing in the first place. This oddity isn’t consistent either. It comes and goes.
After iOS 6 crashed twice on my iPhone 5, I powered it off to settle things down. Then when powered back on, I got this weird screen flicker with an image of an iPhone reset superimposed. Oddly, the iPhone is working albeit with that extreme flicker.
Going to see if a software restore fixes this problem. Hope it’s not hardware related. Probably bachi for this.
More info. When I initially setup the iPhone 5, the restore from iCloud was a partial restore with only some of my apps installed. The phone said it was still restoring from iCloud hours after too. I’m not sure if I was hitting a limit for the number of app screens that was causing glitches.
Is your iPhone seemingly stuck while upgrading to iOS 6? Just be patient, very patient. My iPhone 4 updated relatively quick then at the final restart of the phone, it was stuck and frozen with an empty progress bar.
After about 20-30 minutes, the bar finally moved then finished quickly. At that point iOS 6 was ready to be configured.
Checked out the new location of Nico’s Pier 38, and this place definitely has a “wow” appeal! Love the overall look inside and the pier outside.
Inside, I love that “boat” suspended from the ceiling. Like the inclusion of different types of tiles through out the restaurant and the adjoining Fish Market. The best element I love? Those filament-based lights! Gives a throwback feel to fishing villages.
Outside is a nice area to take a short stroll. Look at the docked boats, the fish and crabs near the rocks, and the different trees planted along the paved walkway.
The only thing that troubled me? The food. I was a somewhat surprised at how few seafood dishes were on the menu. Chicken katsu, beef stew, orange chicken?? Weird. I know these are local kine staples, but from the name and locale, I’m overwhelmingly expecting seafood. There are a few seafood dishes on the menu, just not as much as I’d expect. But the food is good and was prepared quickly. I’m hoping the food selection surpasses the great look of Nico’s.
Are you confused about the status of your iPhone 5 order? I know I am. The phone went on sale last night at 12:01 PDT then sold out in about an hour. If you pre-ordered an iPhone through Apple, you probably got an initial reservation email.
Because transactions with AT&T (my carrier) could not complete, my phone was reserved pending AT&T verification. Once my AT&T standing was confirmed, a second email allowed me to proceed with my order. After specifying iPhone capacity, color, and options such as AppleCare, I checked out to complete the order. Then a third email arrived informing me that my order is being processed. So what does this “processing” status mean? Did I get the phone?
Apparently so if you read Apple’s different states of an order.
From Processing Items, your order then goes straight to Preparing for Shipment, so being at the Processing stage is a good thing signifying your order is indeed confirmed.
Some of the questions I have regarding the new iPhone 5 with 4G LTE speeds.
Saw one more Scion FR-S in the Kailua area this morning. I saw a black one earlier, but this silver one is relatively new with temporary license plates.
