Sunday, September 9, 2012 marked the end of Starbucks’ 12 Star Dash. Did you finish the dash or did you coffee out along the way? I started with a simple iced coffee on Day 1, August 27. The SBUX treat receipts were still active so I have a couple two-a-days to finish up August.
In September, I had a steady stream of visits, culminating in my final drink, a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Late (PSL) with whip cream. Normally, my drinks are all non-fat, no whip, but this drink was an anomaly. I got the non-fat part, but the barrista still topped off the PSL with whip. Oh well, I took the drink as a reward for finishing the dash. 😉
On a side note, I thought the PSL was completely transformed with the whip. Normally, the drink tastes hallow, if you know what I mean. I like the spices and flavors, but it’s probably the non-fat and no whip combo that eviscerates the drink. Just with the whip alone, there was a whee! factor that I guiltily enjoyed.
Back to the Dash. When all was said and done, I totaled up the cost of participating in the Dash. I missed the transactions for two visits, estimating $4 per visit. The result came out to $57.48 in 13 transactions, which averages out to $4.42 spent per visit. All of that to get $5 in Starbucks credit, an 8% return. Worthwhile? Ehhhh, so so, but nevertheless fun to do. I did set a personal best of Starbucks visits with 24 in August 2012.
Here are some caveats. I didn’t split any purchases into singles to maximize my Starbucks (Gold) Rewards card. On one occasion, I bought some extras like a pumpkin scone and Pumpkin Spice VIA packets (which is selling well).
I’ll leave you with pictures of the $58 of yumminess I enjoyed while dashing.

Now that summer’s pau, Billboard released its top songs for the summer of 2012. They sound like this:
Do you agree with this list? I would have thought that Fun would have been the winner. The anthem of “We Are Young” seemed to be everywhere, but maybe that was before summer. I can see where I got the inspiration for my Scion FR-S playlist.
Talk about looking out for the environment. Starbucks is investigating ways where its used coffee grounds and unsold baked goods could be transformed into plastics and laundry detergent. Yes, in the near future, you could be washing your clothes in a blonde roast scented by a Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin. Or maybe you prefer a load of dark roast? I wonder if the detergent will feature the Starbucks mermaid logo?
But no matter what, reducing, reusing, and recycling to sustain our environment is a good thing.
Sure why not? If coffee addicts can drink the brown elixir any time of the day, why can’t Dew fans enjoy the same privilege?
Taco Bell is making Mountain Dew in the morning easy for you. Stop by for their FirstMeal A.M. Crunchwrap and pair this breakfast alternative with Mountain Dew A.M. Mountain Dew and OJ mixed fresh in the morning? Now that’s the way to start your day!
I wonder if you can get a Burrito Supreme for breakfast? For the health sakes for Hawaii residents, local Taco Bell locations are not on the list to serve FirstMeal along with Mountain Dew A.M. But just in case, keep your eyes out for these signs.
Did you get your 12 stars for the Starbucks 12 Star Dash? The end date of September 9 is almost here so hopefully you’ve accumulated enough stars starting on August 27.
I think I have 11 stars and should be able to complete my dash this afternoon. It’s harder than I thought, but if I analyzed my Starbucks behavior I would have known that ahead of time.
Because of the Starbucks Treat Receipt program and the 12 Star Dash, I did set a personal best. Should I be proud of that? 😉
I just don’t get it. Dwyane Wade was selected as the heir apparent of Team Jordan, succeeding the Jordan branded shoes. After three years, Wade is reportedly breaking ties and going with Chinese kicks up and comer, Li-Ning.
But looking back, my low interest in Wade-endorsed Jordans should be my kicks prognostics. The LeBrons, Kobes, Kevin Durants, and even retro Jordans are on my radar. I’d probably be hard pressed to point out a shoe worn by DWade in a kicks lineup.

Detest, love, or shamed by the hunkiness of Abercrombie & Fitch models, you have to love their sense of humor. I mean look at all the chiseled white dudes dancing carefree without any rhythm.
Is the time of stainless steel appliances in the kitchen coming to an end? GE thinks so and is leading the next evolution of kitchen appliance appearances with Slate.
Appearance-wise, Slate looks like stainless steel from the web site, but you’d have to see it in person to view the hues and sheen of the surface. I wonder if Slate feels different from the cool steel? It’s supposed to be fingerprint resistant which is definitely a plus!
The thing that bugs me about GE’s commercial for Slate is the lifestyle portrayed. Seriously, this couple can live in style, partying it up in a seemingly spacious home with a fire pit and Slate-finished appliances. I just can’t relate. I’d rather see kids making a mess in the kitchen, touching the Slate appliances with their grubby hands then the haggard parents (easily) cleaning off the grime. Pan out to a kitchen that looks clean and put together with the face of a smiling parent. That would draw me to Slate.

I haven’t yet found a great way of storing LEGO bricks instead defaulting to large plastic bins for the duty. After reading this hilariously funny post about the evolution of lego sorting, I can foresee the endless quest I’m up against. 🙂
Along with storing and sorting the bricks, I have to figure out a good way of organizing and archiving the LEGO instruction books. More recent sets have their instructions available online but still, you can’t beat the experience of laying out the instruction set in front of you.
Be it with your kids seeing dragons in clouds in the sky. Be it at the workplace where you valiantly slay imaginary dragons. You should imagine dragons, and you should also pick up a copy of Night Visions by Imagine Dragons.
This debut release is a mix of the old and the new. You probably heard “It’s Time” on the radio, but there are many solid tracks to listen to. I’m loving Radioactive, Hear Me, Every Night, and Amsterdam. In fact, if you’re not convinced of Imagine Dragons, iTunes is giving away Amsterdam for free as its Single of the Week. Do yourself a favor and imagine dragons.
