Holiday Gift Guide: Jordan Scarf and Beanie
Okay, you don’t want to dish out $150+ for a gift for your kicks collecting cohort. Here’s something that your kicks fiend can relate to, a scarf and beanie set from Air Jordan.
I like the utility of the anthracite color, but the red version is an eye catcher.

Michigan State’s Carrier Classic Look
I thought the digital camo unis worn by North Carolina were distinctive, but those of challenger Michigan State aren’t too bad either.
And the Spartan’s Carrier Classic Hyperdunks are downright hot.
You might be able to find these special Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Supremes on Nikestore.com now, but they won’t last long, even at $140.

My Starbucks Inky Red Cup
Have you tried assembling your own Starbucks Inky Red Cup using the printed template? Here’s mine.
For perfect results, be sure to follow the directions and use A4 size paper. Letter size paper works, but the cutout won’t fit perfectly.
Starbucks Bringing Augmented Reality This Holiday
Next Tuesday (November 15, 2011), Starbucks is launching its Cup Magic mobile app incorporating augmented reality (AR). There’s no better way to explain it other than watching the introductory video.
What’s the point? Fun really, but to see this type of technology now available for the masses to interact with is exciting. I just hope you don’t need the extra processing power of the iPhone 4S to run Cup Magic.

Reggie Miller Is Starbucks’ Pick of the Week?
Starbucks continues to diversify its Pick of the Week selection. From music to apps to games to books and now to television documentaries, this week’s Pick of the Week is ESPN Films 30 for 30, Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks.
You get both the standard and HD versions of Reggie’s last second sharpshooting along with highlights of the entire Pacers-Knicks series.
Starbucks Gold Card Discount on Holiday Drinks?
Maybe I never noticed this before, but was I always getting a discount on my Holiday-themed Peppermint Mocha when paying with my Rewards Program Gold Card? I never thought so but this receipt shows otherwise.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Reviewing Pulpconnection’s Search Terms
Did a quick review of popular search terms on Pulpconnection and came across this puzzling one, “dancing with the stars wardrobe malfunction.” For Season 13, this has to be Nancy Grace’s accident during Week 2. Here’s the aired, edited video of Nancy’s Quick Step that did and “didn’t maintain hold.”
Holiday Gift Guide: Keurig Single-Cup Brewing System
I assumed too much. I thought you already had a Keurig single-cup home-brewing coffee system in your kitchen. How are you going to enjoy the Starbucks K-Cups if you can’t cupify the contents of the K-Cup?
So Step 1 in enjoying a Starbucks K-Cup – get yourself or your coffee-drinking pal a single-cup brewing system.
Holiday Gift Guide: Starbucks K-Cups
So by now, the masses of caffeine addicts own a single cup coffee brewing system. These were all the rage this past year, and now Starbucks is making it easy to get these addicts a gift. Introducing Starbucks coffee in K-Cups singles!
Available in six coffees and two teas, your caffeine-drinking friend will surely love these K-Cups as a gift!
Pulpconnection on Google+ Pages (with Freebies)
Google+ opened up its social service to include businesses, organizations, and brands earlier this week. And what better way to learn about Google+ Pages other than having your own Page? With that simple logic, let me introduce Pulpconnection on Google+ Pages.
Here’s the direct (and ugly looking) link:
https://plus.google.com/108377264798538201770
What can you expect here? My initial thoughts are to use this channel as a behind-the-scenes stream of consciousness for content and posts. Yes, it’s not a new concept but hey, at least I have an idea, right?
So anyways, stop by and visit and even circle Pulpconnection. As a thank you for adding Pulpconnection to your G+ circles, I have a gift (and I’m breaking the piggy bank on this one). For the first 10 Pulp-sters (individuals, not brands) who add Pulpconnection to their Google+ circles, I’ll gift to you either:
- Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back mobile app. Just released this week and includes the infamous (and classic) video.
- One song from the Twilight Breaking Dawn (Part 1) Soundtrack. Yes, there are only 3 songs available for individual purchase, but they are good ones.
The Rules
- This offer could end at any time due to the Google+ Pages policy on promotions.
- Winners need an account on iTunes to redeem the gifts.
- No substitutions of the gifts (you gotta love Sir Mix-a-Lot and Twilight!)
- You need to adhere to the age restrictions of the mobile app or songs.
- I’ll need a valid email account to gift your winnings.
- Gift goes to the first 10 real people who circle the Pulpconnection Google+ Page.
- Only one gift per person.
- All of this may change on my discretion. 😉
Thanks, enjoy, and +1!
Still Migrating to Aperture
My migration to Aperture 3 from iPhoto 11 is still underway. I decided to make the move to take advantage of Aperture’s advanced organization and photo library management.
Some background. I’ve been an iPhoto fan since its introduction. It served me well more or less over the years. I did encounter a corrupt library or two but managed to recover using its own utilities or the great iPhoto Library Manager (IPLM). Over the years, I had created several libraries to manage each library size. The biggest problem with this is having to switch libraries to find old pictures. Wanting to have access to all my pictures, I used IPLM to consolidate all my libraries into one. This consolidation along with high resolution images from my DSLR was too much for iPhoto 11. It would take minutes to launch and several seconds to do basic tasks like viewing pictures. Yes, I could delete pictures but with the hard drive capacities getting bigger and bigger, why should I?
So I decided to switch to Aperture 3 (which was on sale during the launch of the Mac App Store). Following the instructional video, I did the iPhoto Library import using the “in their current location” option. That import process on a 316 GB iPhoto library took nearly a day.
After the import, Aperture begins working on behind-the-scenes tasks like identifying faces and processing each image. This process takes a long time.
As of yet, I can’t comment about Aperture’s performance since it’s still chugging away. So far, it’s created a 8+ GB library file based on my 316-GB iPhoto library.
More to come later…
