Thanks to some prodding by @mirthlab, I finally got around to “mobilizing” Pulpconnection. What does that mean? I installed an alternate theme that kicks in when Pulpconnection is viewed by a mobile device like an iPhone or Blackberry. This theme is more compact and will then load faster without all the widget bling that you’d normally get.
Thanks to WPtouch, the mobile version of Pulpconnection looks like this.
Who woulda thought that a trapeze bar or a hula hoop would be the latest ways to get into shape? Read about Jukari Fit to Fly and Hooping.
With Twitter, traditional ways of doing things are being turned upside down. Last year, orders for Girl Scout cookies were (unofficially but successfully) taken on Twitter with the cookies delivered via a tweetup. Most recently, a fundraiser for breast cancer is using Twitter to get the word out about the disease.
Making online donations have been available for some time, but it’s easy to ignore these requests. What’s interesting is that Twitter gives these fundraisers a voice. A real voice that isn’t so easy to ignore as witnessed by a successful campaign by Team 808 Tweeps. Using Twitter as a campaign platform, this Hawaii-based team raised over $1600 for the fight against breast cancer, exceeding its goal of $1500.
Congratulations to Team 808 Tweeps!
In celebration of Victoria’s Secret grand opening in Hawaii at Ala Moana, I offer this somewhat disturbing juxtaposition.
Yes, that’s a Victoria’s Secret bag toting The Good Book! Is “Give me sexy” a verse from Psalm?
Week 2 of Dancing with the Stars was a gimme. Seemingly no matter how bad the dancers performed, the judges gave average but encouraging scores. I guess it’s just too early in the season for the judges to break down the performers with scathing comments and low scores.
This week’s standouts are Aaron Carter, Mya, and Donny Osmond. Hey, these could be the finalists for Season 9.
Local boy Mark Dacascos had a slight slip up but still managed (surprise, surprise) average scores of 7,7,7.
So who went home on Week 2? The dancing disconnect, Kathy Ireland, who never looked connected to her performances.
Picked up a copy of Paramore’s new release, Brand New Eyes, and I’m thinking the track Misguided Ghost is perfect for Grey’s Anatomy (assuming it hasn’t made the Grey’s soundtrack yet).
The entire CD is still available on Amazon for the special price of $3.99, but that price is going to change before the night is done. Get it at this great price while you can!
The new Dora the Explorer is starting to make her appearance in the public. This week’s Target ad features the online and interactive Dora Links Doll game with Dora’s revamped look.
Not in some kind of Internet marketing strategy, but as an indirect means of upping your status. You see, in the past, it was users of Google search and Gmail who were characterized as wealthy and rich (and young).
Now, there’s been a shift to Facebook and Twitter. A recent study shows that FB-ers and Tweeters have more money and tend to live in urban areas. So the obvious correlation is that if you too want to have more money, you have to ditch MySpace and start using Facebook and also tweeti like there’s no tomorrow.
Have you ever watched inspirational TED videos of people changing the world. Two of my favorites are Clay Shirky’s “How Twitter Can Make History” and Seth Godin’s “Tribes.”
Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) has gone global and continues to expand with local, self organized events called TEDx (where x denotes independently organized events). Thanks to familiar faces, Hawaii is fortunate to have its own TEDx event, TEDxHonolulu. Slated for Friday, November 6, 2009, TEDxHonolulu is themed “Shift” and will feature “speakers who can inspire the audience to make changes physically, mentally, and emotionally to change their worlds and inevitably the world.”
Attendance is limited to 100 and you must be invited to attend, but still, this is simply awesome!
