Digital Television for Hawaii Starts Tomorrow
Hawaii’s switchover to digital television is still set for an early date of Thursday, January 15, 2009. We’re going to lead the nation into the digital television realm to save the petrels.
Running with Ultra Dance 10
Needing some new tunes for running, I picked up Ultra Dance 10 from Amazon (I didn’t see this in iTunes yet). Not bad, 16 dance tracks for $9. My dance music prerequisites are met:
- Britney Spears remix – check (Break the Ice)
- Sped up ballad – check (Rihanna’s Take a Bow)
- Popular stuff – check (Estelle’s American Boy, Katy Perry’s I Kissed a Girl)
- Gems – check (Christina Millan’s Us Against the World is rockin!)
I’ve heard of some of the other stuff, but don’t care much for the originals so the remixes don’t do much for me. All in all, an okay buy for $9.
Your Twick Is Bigger Than Mine
Not quite safe for work, but if you wanted another way of measuring your status in the Twitter-verse, there’s Twicksize. You simply enter in a Twitter ID (no password), and the service will tell you how many inches your Twick is.
As an example, @CNETnews is 20 inches, @hawaii is 9 inches, @ryankanno is 7 inches, and old @geewhy is a mere 5 inches. Yes, your Twick is bigger than mine. 🙁
A Karate Kid Remake?
Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s son Jaden are planning to remake the Karate Kid? Jackie will be Mr. Miyagi and Jaden will be Daniel Larusso. That’s just blasphemy! You can’t ruin this classic.

When the Booze is Gone, It’s Time to Move on, Gene
Those were Gene Villiatora’s parting words on Top Chef as the Hawaii-raised chef didn’t make it past Week 7. Throughout the competition, Gene was a lucky survivor, advancing through each challenge doing it his way. And in Week 7, Gene, for better or for worse, stuck to his roots and made a questionable fish dish that didn’t completely win over the judges.
Gene almost made it through this week’s double elimination with the backing of new judge Toby Young who admired Gene’s wild creativity. Unfortunately, Gene’s visual whole fish dish with daikon, tomato, and basil didn’t have the flavorful punch the judges were looking for.
Here’s how it went down.

Is That a Leafy Schlong?!
The alleged perpetrator? Diamond Head Sprinklers. Their crime? Masking a schlong as their company logo. Just take a close look!
I’ve done business with them before, and they do good work, but I have to wonder about their logo. You see, on my drive to work, I was following one of their company trucks. At a stop light, I got a good look at the truck’s tailgate that prominently displayed their logo.
Initially, I thought a leaf and drop of water related to keeping lawns green with their irrigation systems. Then, a phallic image started to emerge. Is that a schlong?!? A green, leafy but flaccid schlong with a testicle disguised as a leaf?
What say you? Schlong or not?
Bella’s Lullaby on Sheet Music
At a family dinner, I heard one of my nieces practicing on the piano. The music sounded familiar even after only a few notes. It was none other than Bella’s Lullaby from Twilight! I couldn’t believe it until I saw the sheet music with my own eyes.
Besides the soundtrack and forthcoming DVD, I didn’t see sheet music as another popular Twilight memorabilia item. Dang, Twilight is simply a beast, not just a box office beast. If you’re digging Bella’s Lullaby, you can buy the sheet music from Twilight at Musicnotes.
And I underestimated Amazon where I also found the Twilight Score (with complaints about Bella’s Lullaby being inaccurate).

Team Jacob Getting Pumped
To retain his role as shape shifting Jacob Black of Twilight, Taylor Lautner needed to bulk up his teenage bod. Looks like he’s doing a good job.
I think he’s been in contact with the Tabasco Man asking about his special Tabasco juice.

This just solidifies bacon as an anytime indulgence. The latest food fad is serving bacon for dessert. Yup, Time magazine talks about the pairing of sweets with the salty meat and even provides some sure hit recipes.

At the Macworld Expo 2009, an HP product surprisingly generated a lot of interest. The HP MediaSmart Server ex485/ex487 is hot! With this home server, you can save backups to it, even with Mac OS X’s Time Machine. You can store all your iTunes libraries on the MediaSmart and serve them out to all machines running iTunes. You can even backup the MediaSmart Server to Amazon’s S3 cloud.
There are a few downsides for Mac users though. The MediaSmart runs Windows Home Server, and you initially need a Windows box to configure the server. And because it runs Windows, you have to take the typical Windows security precautions.
